What made you happy today?

I'm going to post thing in the happy thread rather than the ranty thread because... baseless optimism :))

The short story is that a car insurance policy mistakenly autorenewed earlier this year despite asking them not to (had to be done over the phone, why make it easy for people to leave...). After several different phone calls, several months and several broken promises... Today, our refund has been processed! 🥳 Now to keep a close eye on the bank account for the next 10-14 business days... and call up the bank to stop the direct debit instruction, just in case.

Sorry, me again - refund payment has arrived :yahoo:

I finally have all of my stitches out. I dunno if I said before, but I removed the last of them a few days ago and I hadn't realised how much they'd still been irritating til I've been free of them for a couple of days. Didn't want to pull them out too soon just in case, but that's it. No more stitches!

Back to work today. It was nice to know (not in a bad way!) that more experienced colleagues also feel nervous and don’t have much confidence in themselves. The other thing that made me happy was how much importance they place on health and well-being.

It is very satisfying to have stiches out. Glad you are recovering well!

Managed to order train tickets online, sort of painlessly. Fingers crossed is still dry weather on Saturday!

My parcel arrived, I ordered some work trousers... I didn't put a hammer through laptop, definitely a bonus today!

Nixie has lost a little bit of weight since her mum died (not enough for a vet, but enough to make my anxious soul worry) although she's either eating or sleeping or yelling at me for more food whenever I walk past, so I put a small dish of critical care in yesterday afternoon as a little boost. No joy by bedtime so I refreshed it without much hope.

This morning it had all gone! Can't say how much of that Harry ate, but when I put a new dish in just now Nixie went straight to it and started scoffing away 🥰 She's a tiny thing so doesn't have any weight to lose really!

Sorting out stuff for a new colleague motivated me to clear the study - 4 bags of shredding were taken to our local industrial shredder on Tuesday.
A book fair has left us with a lot of books - all the local roads were closed due to resurfacing so no-one could get to us !
Tomorrow a colleague is borrowing a minibus to take them all to Alsager’s book emporium so I said I’d help and add a few books of my own.
I cleared all my study shelves of the books I can’t take when we retire, and won’t need anyway.

It feels good to have done so much clearing out 😁

I've barely run lately, but I'd got it in my head to enter the half marathon being held in Worcester today. I haven't had time to train, nor the inclination to be honest.. so many people told me not to, my friend and coach thought I was crazy.

My PB is about 2 hours 36 minutes, my goal today due to my ongoing back pain and lack of training was just to finish and enjoy it, hopefully in under 3 hours but certainly before the 3.5 hour cut off point where the roads open back up and you're kicked off onto the pavements so they can pack up 🤣

I finished in 2 hours 45 minutes, I may have got a new PB had I not cramped up at mile 10 and had to slow and walk significantly until almost at the finish.

It's not often I can say I'm proud of myself, but I wanted that medal and I went out and earned it. It was an absolutely lovely route and met some incredibly nice people. I'm paying for it now though, my legs and feet are SO painful 😅

Woohoo well done you 🎉🥇
You should be so proud of you ❤️
Put those legs up and maybe a hot bubbly foot soak

That’s brilliant. Well done. You should be very proud. You deserve that medal. 🥇

It wasn't today, but I took some homegrown veg and flowers to the local Horticultural show at the weekend, and got 5 x 1st, 2 x 2nd and 2 x 3rd places , Really surprised and Super chuffed at that result as I'm new at this and never expected to do that well.

Met up with an old friend from teenage years. We played in the same badminton club.
We decided we’ve known each other for about 50 years but haven’t seen each other since leaving home and moving to opposite ends of the country.
We just picked up where we left off - it was lovely catching up with all the family news and meeting each other’s husbands.
Had a lovely meal in a restaurant overlooking the wetlands in the Dee estuary.
View was great but would have been better if it hadn’t rained.

Deep breaths, Tony, deep breaths.

I managed to put in a Tesco order that wasn't just Coke, snacks and microwave meals. With not having a usable oven I was kind of in a rut and since I'm a grazer, I really struggle with a meal's worth of food at once so, grazing it has been. Mug Shots are 60p, that's £1.20 for lunch AND dinner!

Well I bought bread rolls. And cheese. And chutney. And butter. And ham. Bacon slices. Just...sandwich stuff, which doesn't sound much, feels ever so slightly alien though.

(and yes, the goblins got their share too. I was going to order from Asda til they said they had no baby peppers in stock and we couldn't have that, could we? lol)

Edit: Also lol at Tesco asking me if I'm okay with emails about Halloween but when I searched "sandwich fillers" I got directed towards Christmas chocolates and sweets.

I got a load of washing dry outside today despite it raining first thing this morning and threatening rain most of the day. It was warm and windy and that's good drying weather. The rest will be done tomorrow when its 19 degrees and sunny down here in the south.

Bann's not been impressed with the wind here up north, can't say I blame him either. It's howling a gale out there.
