What made you happy today?

I'm happy because on Saturday morning we received a parcel from our son who is currently in Australia.
When we got the notifcation a parcel was coming, my husband suggested it was probably washing ...

It was actually some little gift souvenirs of his various trips so far. And a handwritten letter 😲 and he said he greatly missed us 😲😲😂

Ahahaha. I found yesterday's spider again. However, I'd been brushing off goblin bedding so I could put a wash on, and I have this long handled floor dustpan that I can use standing up, and unfortunately for my spider visitor, that's when I rediscovered it. So I had options today.

Spider, 1. Tony, 2.

(it's outside now)

What is it about your house that spiders just love?

Came home to find this lovely sympathy card from the vet. I thought it was a very kind gesture.

And………….we’re going to see the penguins 😁😁😁😁😁😁
Just booked an excursion to Otago Wildlife reserve in New Zealand, home of the yellow eyed penguin.
You can really play with the penguins 🐧!

I'm going to post thing in the happy thread rather than the ranty thread because... baseless optimism :))

The short story is that a car insurance policy mistakenly autorenewed earlier this year despite asking them not to (had to be done over the phone, why make it easy for people to leave...). After several different phone calls, several months and several broken promises... Today, our refund has been processed! 🥳 Now to keep a close eye on the bank account for the next 10-14 business days... and call up the bank to stop the direct debit instruction, just in case.

Well done for persevering

Just in case it's useful to anyone - when we called up the bank, they advised that if we didn't have any luck with this refund we could call them up and start a claim to get the money back. Unfortunately I can't remember exactly what she called it... But if you're having trouble getting a company to give you back money they've taken in error by direct debit there may be the option to just go round them entirely!

I am quite pleased at my own joke. There'd been a discussion about being bi, and someone had said "well that means you're at least half gay, right?" and my response was, "Well I've been called worse things than half straight."

Yeah I'm quite proud of that one, even if I had to reassure them afterwards I wasn't insulted and thought it was funny, lol.

New fleece liner and pee pads made with my trusty 45 year old sewing machine. Made in extra quick time thanks to being fuelled by Percy Pigs (me not the machine 🤣).
I need to do the same, I can't get motivated though. The fleece and wadding are here. I love old sewing machines, I don't get on with modern ones, mine is 65 years old.

Wow 65? I do think that new stuff can be a bit over-engineered (have you ever used all your washing machine settings?) and therefore more to go wrong.

I only use 2 washing machine settings. The old metal sewing machines are heavy and much more stable to use. I used to have an electric modern machine and it was always breaking down and having to go away to be fixed. This old Singer gets cleaned and oiled by my partner every couple of years and it works as good as new.

I've had a couple of days off, I'm a bit of a boring bod & don't go away anywhere for holidays, etc. But my mum had a medical appointment so I took her to that this morning & we decided to go to the bank at Shaftesbury (all of our local ones are closed/closing) & the medical appointment was about half way there, so we decided to have a little wander around Shaftesbury.

We stopped off at the 'salt seller' cafe at the top of Shaftesburys 'gold hill' the 5th steepest street in the UK I think?
If anyone's been watching Alan Titchmarsh's Dorset it's s been featured on there.

We struck it lucky & the table we were seated at was right at the top, looking right out on some beautiful views, we indulged on a cream tea...
The tea was as my gran would have said ' tea begrudged, water bewitched' ☕ :)
One tea bag in a 4.5 cup tea pot!
We did laugh at it though & the scones were lovely :P
It was a beautiful view & I don't get to spend much time with my mum on days out generally.

In the last photo you can just see the 'hovis loaf 🍞'
Installed as it was the hovis advert that made gold hill famous years ago with the 'Yorkshire' lad cycling up over the cobbles.
It's a lovely part of the world I live in

What a beautiful and iconic view 🙂

I picked the piggies up. Toffee recognised my voice and seemed happy to be home. The boarder said he was a bit off the first couple of days but perked up. I was extremely relieved to hear that 😍😍

Baby Poggle has discovered he can pass his lunchtime cucumber through the bars of the cage and that it makes the guinea pigs very happy (they were less impressed by the offering of sandwich). We experimented with handfeeding them some of their tea a bit early and he did very well 🥰

I was hoping that the double height stand would keep them out of reach for a bit longer but thankfully he's a very gentle child (so far, for a toddler) and they are very relaxed piggies. A little bribery certainly won't go amiss in their relationship :))

Unfortunately the guinea pigs did manage to kick some poop through the same chink in my cardboard perimeter and Baby Poggle was quite intent at putting it in his mouth 😱 No slacking on the hoovering for me then, I guess!

A bit of piggy poop is a lot better than the huge hairy spider that my niece put in her mouth as a baby! :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: Luckily I wasn't around to see it. Apparently my Lovely Late Mum was nearly sick:vom:
