Stripe and Chesney

Always lettuce before spot cleaning and cream. The boys get a fraction of a cookie after their lettuce and both boys have been trying to get extra cookies!

But I have good news! Stripe did a mini popcorn. He hasn't popcorned since before the ear infection about 2.5 months ago. He didn't get far into the air, but he jumped a little and bent his body, you know how they do.
 
Great to hear he is eating hungrily and has more energy! Your care has gotten him back on his feet 🐾❤️
 
Stripe rumbled at me when I was trying to collect him for cage cleaning! Then I put his puzzle with some foraging herbs and a cookie, he ignored the treats and just played with the lids!

Tomorrow is hopefully his last recheck.

I'm going to give Chez his health check tomorrow when I clean out his cage, prepared for the wiggling!

Stripe is still playing with the lids of the puzzle, I'm going to have to take them away before I leave, don't want them to scrape against his scab.
 
I hope the health check goes OK and Chez has learned a bit of Stripe's good behaviour. Stripe is a little academic, enjoying his puzzle 🧩
 
Hi guys! Chesney here. I just had my cage cleaned and guess what, I had a health check. When I was in my container mom came and tried to pick me up but I kept jumping out of the way, she really thought she wasn't going to be able to do it. Then she got a good grip and turned me upside down and I wiggled. But then, since I was a little scared I stayed still and she was able to look over my body. I'm happy to say my anal sack is the cleanest around and I don't have bumblefoot!

Stripe leaves for the vet in two hours and mom thinks it's too bad because Stripe is having such a good day the vet is going to ruin it. But we're all hoping it is the last visit!

I got a pepper after my health check! Here I am eating it.

Oh, brave little guinea pig! I'm glad to hear you are all OK and are enjoying some tasty pepper. I hope Stripe gets the all clear at the vet. Also that the drive there is fine. It will be nice if you and Stripe are popcorning around your cages soon!
 
Hi everyone, Stripe here. My gut's not used to veggies because when I was really sick I didn't eat them. My poop is soft, so I'm going to be off them for a couple days, but I got a cookie when Chez got his lettuce. Since I got the all clear and over the scary vet visit I've been tunneling in my hay. Mom promised she wouldn't be putting cream on my bottom ever again.

We have birch logs coming in the mail today but mom says only supervised chewing because they usually have a stem that looks kinda sharp and she doesn't want either of us to get another wound. I hope she finds some softer, safer toys!

Pretty soon mom's going to spot clean and give us our herbs then she has to grocery shop and do an hour of homework before leaving for work at two.
 
Oh dear, I hope you feel better and can have some veg soon. Mom is doing the right thing. Glad you got a cookie 🍪

Stripe's been off veg for 24 hours but his stool is still a little soft. I know poop can be 2 days behind, so hoping it firms up overnight.

Did my homework reading in their room and every time I turned a page, Chez begged. Usually if he bites the bars and it's not treat time I give him my hand to smell and that stops the bar biting. It's our secret code.

Stripe is sleeping, but I'm thinking of taking him out for lap time later.
 
Day two and Stripe's poo is still soft! Hoping it clears up and tomorrow morning I'll do poop soup if it hasn't. Here's an aerial view of him monching.

He really is a thirsty boy, he goes through half a bottle in 24 hours.

But he seems happy. Will do lap time later today.

Stripe's poop is looking better! I'll hold off on veg for another 48 hours then start with basil, his fav.

It's dawn here, the cat woke me up 45 minutes early for wet food.

I told the boys I'd let Stripe get better then I'd buy an extension cord and bust out the shop vac for all the hay and poop.

Gotta clean both cages today. I'll start with Stripe, he uses bedding. I'll let the boys chill for an hour.

We just had our cages cleaned and we're munching fresh hay. I did zoomies and now I'm burrowing for a nap. Mom's going to get dressed and go get the last bag of hay they have that we like. Hope it's still there! Keep chewing. Chez.
 
Just spot cleaned and the boys are munching pellets. They never finish them, but enjoy a good crunch in the morning.

Stripe's poop looks good, so tomorrow I'll give him some pepper. Had called the vet and she suggested oxbow digestive cookies and he had one yesterday, and I see an improvement today.

I think I have a fan. Was singing a silly song and Chez started wheeking.
 
Hi everyone.

Guess what? Mom. Drinks. Algae. Yes, algae. It's a powdered supplement with chlorella and spirulina and oat grass and alfalfa and other healthy things like fermented mushrooms. She thinks it's healthy and makes her skin look brighter. She puts it in soy milk! Yucky!

We have health checks after cage cleaning tomorrow. I'm going to wriggle.

So far mom has spent an hour with us this morning, which is great. She's having the furnace tuned up today for preparation for winter. It gets down to zero fahrenheit here in Michigan. We have a snow plower lined up.

In a little while we're going to stop munching and take our noon nap and while we're sleeping mom's going to do her homework.

Both cages cleaned, and the boys were not happy with me today, it was health check day. Both were wiggly. But both look good. Now Chez is popcorning, so it must not have been too bad.

Stripe's poop has looked good for a couple days, so he had a small piece of pepper. He left a huge pile of poop by his hut.

I'm half done with my thesis and started an independent study class because I need the credits. Graduate with my master's in December. Yay!
 
The boys are munching their hay. It's great to see Stripe scurry around after being paralyzed. The boys like to bite the scooper during spot cleaning and Chez zooms. He just took off again, under the fleece, I can hear the poop on the coroplast.

I got a bag of unique hay, the strands are very long.

Just got home from work, it's 9 pm. Chez no longer wheeks when he hears me in the hall, but if I enter the room he's biting the bars. I think he thinks I can hear it from outside the room. I worry about his teeth.

Stripe was laying outside his hide, that was nice to see.

Both boys have plenty of hay already. Cage cleaning in the morning.

Going to a poetry reading with some coworkers Tuesday, I had to turn down a pumpkin decorating dinner invitation that day.
 
Hey everyone, Chez is bouncing around his cage. I stood on my hind legs and peeked at him and he was munching lettuce. I didn't get any because of my stool. Some of my poop looked more formed after the benebac yesterday, but maybe it's too early to tell. Vet lady is going to call this afternoon.

Mom has a day shift today and tomorrow so she comes in our room when it's still dark. We'll be alone all day.

Well, back to grooming myself.

Hi everyone, it's 5:30 am and I'm up early. I'm the greeting card specialist at the bookstore and have to be to work at 8 to put out Christmas cards. So the boys are yawning right now. Cat's down for a nap.

The boys were a little scared of the wind yesterday, it was quite loud. We've usually had snow by now but it's unseasonably warm.

Hi everyone, the cat woke mom up at 6:30, so she's in our room in the dark again. We're both stretching and yawning.

It's actually cage cleaning day so in an hour we're having them cleaned and we're also getting our weekly health check while we're out of the cage.

I just did two little popcorns and now I'm playing with my crinkle toy.

Mom's come to terms with the fact that Chez will never be a lap boy like me. She hopes he'll get better for the health check though.
