Stripe and Chesney

He's currently eating a hay cookie and I just gave him some emeraid and it stimulated his appetite for hay a little. I'll get some oats and carrots, do you add water to the oats or do they eat them dry?

Was hoping to see Stripe out and about this morning, but no luck. He's been on the baytril and doxycycline for 48 hours. He no longer whimpers. I think that is a good sign.

Switched snuggle sacks, cleaned him up the best I could, but he would only take 3 mL of the emeraid. He did much a little hay after and before that he had a romaine leaf.

Stripe just finished a quarter of a cup of lettuce and he's munching hay! I'll let him munch before I do his meds.

He's been on baytril and doxycycline for 72 hours. But he's still staying in his snuggle sack. Hard to tell if he's getting better, but I hear less whimpering.

So encouraged he's munching. Will give some emeraid as well.

Chez zoomed and made a mess of his cage.

Chez is zooming around his clean cage.

Unfortunately Stripe was in his hide this morning but there was evidence he walked around in the night. Poops in the snuggle sack and flattened hay.

He seems to want to eat his timothy tunnel a lot even though I put hay close to him. He had his meds and emeraid. When he walked when I put him back in the cage he didn't drag his legs.

Sweet Stripe, keep going, just a little further every day, and keep eating ❤️

Stripe had his meds and recovery feed and went straight back to his hide.

Two questions:

When I make up a batch of emeraid, can I refrigerate what's left? It's a shame to waste.

His grease gland was a little crusty, do I put the coconut directly on the gland or just on the hair? When do I wipe it off?

Last night I was frustrated and thought about doing medical boarding but I am feeling more confident today.

I usually didn't prepare to much Emeraid, so it doesn't go to waste and if he wanted more I made more, but idk if it will keep in the fridge. I think that the majority of critical care brands can last up to 24h.

When I cleaned the grease gland i put the coconut oil on the hairs and worked it in gently with a cotton swab, because he had them kinda stuck together. When they got separated I just wiped him with fragrance free baby wipes, but I am not sure if that's the best way to do it.

It is a personal opinion and it might be incorrect, but I think you care about him the most and therefore will provide the best care.

I am glad he is getting a bit better ❤️

I work the coconut oil into the fur and a little bit gently into the skin, tissue off the excess and then leave the rest. I hope he's feeling better, there are good signs just starting. I'm glad he's eating like a good piggy!

When I have made up critical care in the past I would make a large portion and what wasn’t eaten in the first sitting would be good for the next couple of sittings. I would always throw it away at the end of the day and make more the next day.

I put coconut oil all over the fur and rub it into the grease gland too. I wipe it a little with a cloth or tissue but I don’t wash it off.

Stripe was in his hide again this morning, but the hay was flattened so he came out in the night. After his emeraid, I put him back in the cage and he paused and made a little chutting noise! Then he ran into his hide while making a chutting noise.

The coconut oil worked well except for a little crust but I am paying for him to have a bath during his recheck Saturday. They might want to cut the hair a little.

So far I have spent $900 dollars, six hundred from my savings and three hundred from my trust. I'm scared to ask the trustee for more because she didn't sound happy about the $300 bill when I called her about it.

Chutting sounds positive 🐾🐾 hopefully excitement and energy 👍
I hope his bath goes well and he enjoys it.
Guinea pigs seem to be quite expensive pets ❤️

I'm so excited! After Stripe's third feeding just now he didn't run into his hide right away and stayed out and grazed for 8 minutes! He even looked next door for Chez for the first time! I think this is progress.

Stripe is coming out of his hide more and more. He's at the water bottle now! This is the first time I've seen him drink in a week, he's been getting all his water from the emeraid. He's even getting cheeky, he looked like he wanted to jump off my lap at med time and make a grand escape.

He has his recheck tomorrow morning. Hoping we can end the antibiotics Monday.

Can't wait till he gets a bath tomorrow, he needs it.

Chez and Stripe came nose to nose through the bars for the first time and Chez did a power lie in!

Here's the boys eating some treats. I really think Stripe is the more intelligent of the two. Chesney is the zoomer and chutter.

How much rumbling is normal?

Hi,
one of our piggies rumble allot at his house mate (who is also a boy) and they are well bonded.
Some piggies just rumble more than others it just means that they are displaying dominance. :)

Could not find Stripe this morning, looked for holes in his cage, looked in the hide. He was under a huge pile of hay! Panic mode!

Vet for Stripe today. I hope it doesn't stress him too much. I also have to clean his cage, it's the type that uses bedding (it'll be a while till I can afford a c&c like Chez although I do have one without a lid, but I'm not comfortable with that).

Will update after the vet.

Great that Stripe is out and about!
He actually reached his grease gland this morning to give it a clean for the first time in a month! He is showing interest in his surroundings, he came up to the bars to smell my hand like he used to do. He even begged for his lettuce at the bars!

Antibiotics continued for 10-14 days, recheck with X-rays when done.

Grease gland skin a little inflamed, ointment occasionally.

Critical care for now, with reducing gradually.

Nice bath, penis looks good. Continue cleaning anal sack, no bumblefoot or urine scald.
