Bladder treatment

Yes that’s the same pain relief.

If it is IC then you are doing what would be recommended.
One final thing. I've got some Fibreplex incase he's on ABs again. No way can I put that syringe in his little mouth. Can I squeeze it out, & put it in a 1ml syringe that he's used to? Thanks

I know you were not asking me, but when I have used fibreplex in the past I mix it in with the critical care I am feeding.
Fibreplex has a not very nice taste and your boy will likely be very unlikely to take it let alone from such syringe, if you are not feeding critical care you can make his daily pellets into mush and then feed alongside that.

I believe some just squirt it straight into the mouth and if you are worried about the size you might find that you could transfer to a smaller syringe but I would be worried about losing most of it to product the bowl you squirted it in etc.

Its for a probiotic after his antibiotics, & not a support feed

I meant you should mix it in with with critical care etc. as it tastes bad and pigs aren't likely to take it easily.
I do understand what fibreplex is, I was just trying to give you some ideas on how to administer it easier.

I have no critical care.

I did try this and it didn’t work very well for me as the fibreplex is gritty and the grit would get left behind and block the syringe. It was like dry sand. If you do try it make sure you cut the whole end off the small syringe. It might work that way. Good luck with the specialist. 🤞🏻

I’ve never had any trouble getting any of mine to take fibreplex.

You could try getting some out and putting it in a syringe but my guess is it won’t be very easy.

Piggl is correct though in that it can be mixed with critical care if he ends up needing to be syringe fed.
If he doesn’t need to be syringe fed and you really can’t get the fibreplex into him then just the a different probiotic which you may find easier to administer

I have no critical care, & I can't afford to buy anymore probiotics until next Friday. He could well be on antibiotics from this Thursday. I bought fibreplex as you said you use it after antibiotics

Yes absolutely it can be used. There is nothing wrong with using it.

I’m just saying if you can’t get on with it, then you may want an alternative.
I’ve not personally ever had trouble with it

You may need to get some critical care if there is a risk the antibiotics may upset his digestion .
Mushed Pellets can be used as an alternative to critical care but you need to make sure to cut the end off the syringe as pellet mush doesn’t go through the syringe as easily as critical care

I have no critical care.
That's okay, if you end up needing to use the fibreplex you can put some warm water with the 1tbsp of his nuggets/pellets and create a sort of paste.
Then squish the 1ml of Fibreplex into the same bowl and see if your boy will eat it on his own, if not you can cut the end off of a 1ml medication syringe and administer it as you would his medication/support feed.

These are supposed to be tips to give fibreplex, as it by itself has a bad taste meaning your pig will be unlikely to want to take it. I understand you do not have critical care and it is not technically needed if your boy is not losing weight.

Can't afford to buy anything else including critical care until next Friday, not this Friday. Need all my money now for the vets Thursday.

if you do need to syringe feed him then mushed pellets is the alternative to critical care. He may well not need to be syringe fed though.
Syringe feeding was only mentioned as a way to get a probiotic into them IF you are syringe feeding as well. If he doesn’t need to be syringe fed then he just can have the probiotic.

The fibreplex is just a case of adjusting the dial to the dose, and then syringing it into his mouth.

Can I just say, he spent a month on Baytril, & no probiotic needed. His appetite & poos where fine throughout. I'm just thankful of this information in preparation incase I have too

Absolutely - baytril is usually well tolerated and doesn’t cause effects in most piggies.
You were worried about him having to go on doxy though hence the advice to prepare with a probiotic and syringe feed if needed.

Yes, absolutely

What about Septrin? This specialist seems to prescribe this one to the piggies in the rescue

Septrin is fine to be given. The vet will prescribe the antibiotic for the infection as they see fit.
I meant is septrin well tolerated by piggies too? Its just going to be hard to do all these things, etc, when working all day.

Yes I believe it is - although it is always going to be a bit piggy dependent - its not one I've used though

Try not to worry.
The new vet will hopefully be able to help. And of course if there is no bacteria and he is diagnosed with IC, then antibiotics wont be of any use anyway, so try not to get worried about it at this point.
let us know how you get on

Thank you. Should I put the update here, or start a new thread? I just never know where to add posts

On here. Best to keep everything about the same issue to the same thread - we have all the background then and saves you trying to make a new post make sense to anybody who hasn’t seen this one!

How do I measure out 1ml of fibreplex if its a paste in the big tube? I've seen how to mush the pellets & cut the syringe

You turn the dial on the tube to the marks and then press the plunger. It will only dispense the amount you set the dial to

Thanks. Not really studied it properly yet. All I know is, I'm not putting that big thing in his mouth! He's quite a skitty pig anyway. Will probably scare him 😳

So upset 😢Squeak having terrible bout of squeaky wees. Every few mins. He had his metacam at 7.30. I can't stand hearing him in pain. Its breaking my heart 😢

Do you know he is peeing? I am not saying it is not possible but I have not really seen a guinea pig peeing every few minutes.
Do you perhaps have him on your lap and you can feel the pee when he squeaks?

Have you taken a video of these squeaks, if not, is it still happening and could you take a video of the sound?
