Billie's paw

My late Ginger was an expert in not swallowing medicine. It work best when I gave the meds really slow.
But of course different piggies need different techniques.

I tried slow with the Metaclopramide tonight it didn't work. Fast with the medicine sometimes works but when there's as much as 1ml to get down them it's a bit of a challenge!

Bless her, it's been a long time now hasn't it. Hopefully it won't be much longer now Billie.

Yes, it's been months. And it's still a rollercoaster ride.
Sometimes it looks like we make real progress and then she takes her bandage off ... and it gets worse again.

Billie has taken off the bandage again. :(
I think, she was pretty pleased with herself.
It hasn't been bleeding, but she seems determined to undo any progress we made since January.

Oh Billie, your little chicken leg looked so good in that purple bandage, now leave it alone 😊

Today we had our appointment with the specialist vet. He was very pleased with Billie's progress. :D
We can start to reduce the treatment to once daily soon. Billie is still on Baytril and vitamin C for the time being, but we should not have to keep on with the bathing and the bandage forever.
He also said that it is probably not going to get much better than it is at the moment. And of course I'll always have to monitor the paw closely and start treatment again, if it get's worse.
But at least I should be able to go away for a few days without having to fear that the paw will cause big problems while I'm away.

I'm very happy to report that Billie's paw is improving. :D

Still far from perfect, but so much better.

Unfortunately, Billie is getting more and more fed up with the paw soaks. I can understand it, but we have to go on for a while longer.

At least it looks like I won't have to go away for three days in April. Made a bit of a fuss about it and it seams to have worked. :inn:
Our managing director now knows that I'm not too good at keeping quiet when something really annoys me.

Just wanted to report that there is nothing new to report. ;)
In the next couple of days I'll only soak the paw in the morning, because I will be home really late. I'm so glad that we are doing the 3 day workshop in Vienna, so I can sleep at home. :D

Billie is working on a new technique to get rid of the bandage, but it doesn't quite work out yet.
We were able to reduce the metacam. Next step would be to stop giving it all together. But I'm really reluctant to do this because of Billie's arthritis.
And I'm afraid there would be a big complaint to the GPU about the withdrawal of live saving medication. Billie just loves her metacam.
