Who’s struggling?

My mum came home this morning with a zimmer frame and crutches. She’s not got compression stockings which I’m worried about but apparently they do not give them anymore after a hip replacement as it’s thought they do not work as well as what was once thought?

Anyway, she’s gone to bed as she has hardly slept for the past two nights so me and my husband have come home to let her rest. I’ll go back up there tomorrow x
Great that she is home 😊. Zimmer is really helpful on top of the crutches.

They don't give them anymore no. New research suggests they don't prevent DVTs when people are already on blood thinners. Only useful when people aren't on the blood thinners. So more comfortable for people to be without them than trying to adjust them with a healing hip.

Thank you, I’m so glad she’s home with the zimmer on top of her crutches.

Thank you for the reassurance over the compression socks. She’s on blood thinners for 10 days post op (injections in her stomach) and her usual aspirin and then just aspirin, does that sound about right?

I hope you’re doing ok? x

That is much better than I was given. I was given only 75mg of aspirin from the start. The injections are really good.

Yeah, I'm okay. Just need to find out what is happening with my heart x

Thank you. I’m sorry they didn’t give you the blood thinning injections 😞

I’m glad you’re otherwise ok. I hope they can find out what’s wrong with your heart x

He lives in Milton Keynes but is in hospital in Oxford as they have a specialist cardiac unit.
We have a long drive tomorrow to visit him.

What a massive shock for you. Good that he is getting the care he needs. Will be thinking of you x

I've just had a shocking phone call. My son has had a heart attack and is recovering from emergency surgery to fit a stent, he's only 34.
Oh no, sending you all hugs and best wishes for tomorrow  🙏🙏

If it's any comfort, one of my husband's friends had a heart attack at a similar age. He is 66 now. Thank God for the NHS!

BIG HUGS

Fingers very firmly crossed. I hope that your son will make a full recovery and live a long life. A family friend of my parents had a heart attack at a younger age but went on to live a normal life span and to outlive his wife. ;)

Blimey how awful. I hope he recovers quickly. Safe journey. Bet you just want to get there and give him a hug.

Gosh, I’m so sorry, you must be so worried 😞 Fair enough she was older but my mum had a heart attack aged 54 and had 3 stents fitted. She’s in her 70’s now and apart from having to use an angina spray occasionally and take medication, she’s had no further problems x

My concerns are more to do with him being high functioning autistic with associated depression/anxiety and personality disorder. He's got a history of not following things through, not taking important medication and non attendance of appointments. He thinks he has friends but they are parasites who use him as he has medication with street value and is on enhanced PIP for life. He smokes on a daily basis and has been cuckooed in the past. He is actually being discharged today and I have been liaising with the hospital and social services. I have managed to get him classified as vulnerable and the safeguarding team are involved. I have discussed what I am doing and explained my reasons to him.

I’ve been at my mum and dads everyday since my mum came home helping get my mum washed and dressed etc and doing jobs for them. They’ve insisted they’ll be fine without me for the next 5 days while I’m away so I guess I have to trust them.

My mum is frustrated but she’s already walking a bit better and is doing her exercises. She stops taking the blood thinning injections today and will then carry on with aspirin so that’s worrying me

I hope you’re ok @Piggies2023 and recovering well? x

How is your son doing?

That's great that your mum is walking better. That is good that they insist they will be fine.
The blood thinners should have stopped a blood clot from forming. And with her being mobile now they will have assessed her risk as low enough for the aspirin.

Unfortunately still not doing good. It's like a cascade of health problems.

Thanks for asking. Ok but tired, partly from getting used to new meds and partly just recuperating. A few years ago he would have been in hospital longer than two days where proper rest is easier. I find it amazing how quickly people are discharged now. My great niece was only in 24 hours after a ceasarian section! In my time it was 10 days.

Thank you. My mum is still walking with the zimmer frame but isn’t as bent over as before having her hip done

I’m sorry you’re still not doing good 😞 x

It’s wrong how they discharge so quickly 😞 I’m glad your son is doing ok. Make sure you look after yourself too x

It is shocking how quickly people are discharged now. Also, often a lack of aftercare too. I'm glad he's doing okay.

Just feeling a bit down as one of my girls isn't doing well. Worrying about her but having to go to work and be all cheery, not sure if I can do it today. They do like to keep us slaves on our toes. Have got an early finish and tomorrow off so can keep a better eye on her as well.

Oh no 😢 what is wrong with you girl? It's so stressful when they are ill.
