Who’s struggling?

My mum came home this morning with a zimmer frame and crutches. She’s not got compression stockings which I’m worried about but apparently they do not give them anymore after a hip replacement as it’s thought they do not work as well as what was once thought?

Anyway, she’s gone to bed as she has hardly slept for the past two nights so me and my husband have come home to let her rest. I’ll go back up there tomorrow x
Great that she is home 😊. Zimmer is really helpful on top of the crutches.

They don't give them anymore no. New research suggests they don't prevent DVTs when people are already on blood thinners. Only useful when people aren't on the blood thinners. So more comfortable for people to be without them than trying to adjust them with a healing hip.

Thank you, I’m so glad she’s home with the zimmer on top of her crutches.

Thank you for the reassurance over the compression socks. She’s on blood thinners for 10 days post op (injections in her stomach) and her usual aspirin and then just aspirin, does that sound about right?

I hope you’re doing ok? x

That is much better than I was given. I was given only 75mg of aspirin from the start. The injections are really good.

Yeah, I'm okay. Just need to find out what is happening with my heart x

Thank you. I’m sorry they didn’t give you the blood thinning injections 😞

I’m glad you’re otherwise ok. I hope they can find out what’s wrong with your heart x

He lives in Milton Keynes but is in hospital in Oxford as they have a specialist cardiac unit.
We have a long drive tomorrow to visit him.

I've just had a shocking phone call. My son has had a heart attack and is recovering from emergency surgery to fit a stent, he's only 34.
Oh no, sending you all hugs and best wishes for tomorrow  🙏🙏

If it's any comfort, one of my husband's friends had a heart attack at a similar age. He is 66 now. Thank God for the NHS!

BIG HUGS

Fingers very firmly crossed. I hope that your son will make a full recovery and live a long life. A family friend of my parents had a heart attack at a younger age but went on to live a normal life span and to outlive his wife. ;)

Blimey how awful. I hope he recovers quickly. Safe journey. Bet you just want to get there and give him a hug.

Gosh, I’m so sorry, you must be so worried 😞 Fair enough she was older but my mum had a heart attack aged 54 and had 3 stents fitted. She’s in her 70’s now and apart from having to use an angina spray occasionally and take medication, she’s had no further problems x

My concerns are more to do with him being high functioning autistic with associated depression/anxiety and personality disorder. He's got a history of not following things through, not taking important medication and non attendance of appointments. He thinks he has friends but they are parasites who use him as he has medication with street value and is on enhanced PIP for life. He smokes cannabis on a daily basis and has been cuckooed in the past. He is actually being discharged today and I have been liaising with the hospital and social services. I have managed to get him classified as vulnerable and the safeguarding team are involved. I have discussed what I am doing and explained my reasons to him.
