Dental Potential Dental Issue

Thank you! We had actually been looking on your website earlier as if Little still needs close attention, we will definitely be bringing him to you. Its 4 weeks until we will be going so there’s still time for him to recover. If I’m still worried about him a week before we go, we will get in contact with you about boarding :)
he will be in the best place with Debbie. I have not worried about him at all as I know nobody has more experience with poorly piggies, well apart from Simon! They make a great combo!

Update from yesterday’s appointment:
Peanut was referred to as a monster again by Simon, lol. He said he came up at 1.42kg on the scales. He’s definitely very heavy to even pick up compared to Little. Peanut’s teeth are good and Simon is happy with how long his extra tooth is taking to grow so he only needs to be seen every 10-12 weeks.
Simon said that Little’s mouth was a state by his incisors. His top incisors had grown really quickly and will have been causing him so much pain to eat. Simon had hoped the bottom incisor would have been enough to keep them down but it’s not and so the top incisors were then making his bottom incisor and the gum surrounding it very painful. Simon has taken Little’s bottom incisor as far down as he could so that it wouldn’t affect his bite. He said he thinks Little still has the ear infection but is happy not to give him any more antibiotics unless he goes downhill in which case they will post some out to us. Little has an appointment in two weeks on the 6th of August at 5:50. Simon wanted to get Little seen as he then goes on holiday again and didn’t want to leave Little in a position where he may be unable to eat for another two weeks before he gets back.

Hope Little is eating better now his incisors are filed down, it’s a real balancing act with incisors, I remember with my Bill and his dodgy nashers x

It’s hard to judge how much he’s eating but I’m sure he feels a lot better now. I’m hoping his incisors aren’t a nightmare as it was only about 2 and a half weeks ago we saw Simon and then he wants to see him in another two weeks. If we can make them last 8 weeks then that’d be brill! Baby steps I suppose, but hopefully it can become a possibility in a few months. I never realised incisors could be such an issue!

We are every two weeks too! We are going to share the travel with another couple who have a dental piggie Mikey who has similar problems to Ted and needs two dentals a month

It’s good that the arrangements with Mikey has worked out, especially seeing as you and his family have such a long way to travel. Ted may not have been able to come home for even longer otherwise! It’s crazy how fast the teeth can grow in just two weeks, it seems like no time at all but can mean the difference between eating and not eating

Absolutely, poor Mikey stopped eating last weekend and had to stay at Debbie’s so she could keep an eye on him. He had a dental on Monday and was soon eating again that evening but we couldn’t risk taking him home, but he should be going home on 4/8/20 when they have their next dental.

We have a new girl with dental issues, who is currently boarding and Mikey seems very taken with her! 😂

Update:
We are at a bit of a loss. Little seemed to be eating decently enough Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and maybe the first half of Wednesday. He was producing some normal poos too. However since Wednesday afternoon, he just won’t eat again :( we’re now syringing him even more mashed nuggets as we had dropped it down to one feed before bed. His poos have got really bad again because he’s not eating his hay. Simon did mention he could post some more antibiotics for his ear if he goes downhill a bit so we’ve called the vets and told them he’s not eating so we’re waiting for a call back after they’ve talked to Simon about it. We just want poor Little to be right :(

Update: spoken to Simon. As Little is wanting to eat his hay but then gives up, Simon believes this is from pain. Because of this, he’s prescribing Tramadol as another pain relief rather than another antibiotic. He thinks his incisors are what’s causing him the pain. They’re unable to post tramadol, so Simon has advised us to ring round vets near us and ask if Simon is able to send them Little’s prescription so that we can pick it up.

Well, we’ve rung round every vet local to us and none of them stock Tramadol in anything other than 80mg tablets. We either need the 5mg, 10mg or liquid suspension as we can’t split a tablet any higher to the correct dosage :( we’ve no idea what to do now as we can’t get back to see Simon until our appointment in two weeks. Simon believes Little is in too much pain to eat, so that means he won’t be able to eat for himself until he is able to get the Tramadol :(

Can Simon post some out to you?

Have you tried a normal pharmacy?
No, I think it’s the dog tramadol he wants us to get and I’m not sure what the difference is between that and human tramadol strength wise. Simon didn’t mention trying a pharmacy, just ringing up local vet clinics. Would human tramadol be okay?

Whenever one of my guinea pigs would be prescribed tramadol by Simon or Kim, they tell us it's okay to use the Tramadol that hubby has for his medication. We have to dilute it in water though.

Ring Cat and Rabbit Clinic and tell them you can’t find a vet who has it and ask if human Tramadol could be an option.

Is human tramadol prescription only? Since it’s a strong pain relief, I imagine it would be which means we won’t be able to get our hands on that either

Yeah it is..
Then I don’t think that’s an option for us.
I’ve looked at pictures of the dog tramadol 80mg tablets but i really don’t think we’d be able to split it at all. I think at most we’d be able to make it is a 20mg Tablet but that’s still 4x too high. I’m not sure what to do

I’ve got Zithromax from Tesco pharmacy when Cat and Rabbit ran out. Simon gave me a prescription to get it.
Thank you. We didn’t know that was possible. We’ve rang Cat and Rabbit and explained and they’re going to give us a ring back after they’ve spoken to Kim about it

Okay so, they’ve rung back. It was all a bit confusing. Kim told the receptionist they could post it. But the receptionist has then looked and seen that it can’t be posted as it’s a controlled drug. They’ve said we can give the human one, and they’re going to email a prescription for either 5mg human tramadol or 10mg. Receptionist is under the impression we would give it as is rather than diluting or anything so not really sure as the receptionist might not know and it doesn’t seem like Kim knows either and Simon isn’t in today

What an absolute nightmare. So we’ve had a prescription emailed over, the receptionist said she’s done it for 10mg as she didn’t think pharmacy would do 5mg. Fair enough. So we pay £22 for the prescription, walk down to the pharmacy and get told they don’t even supply the tablets in that amount. The lowest mg tablet they do is 50. So we obviously can’t get that even if we wanted to as our prescription is for 10mg tablets. We’ve basically just bought a prescription that’s useless and we have no tramadol for Little either :(

Oh dear! That is a nightmare, hope you can get the prescription sorted. Is there any other painkiller other than Metacam?
