Piggie looks like she has mumps Do i need to PANIC.

Thinking of you and Florence!

I've been there with 6 years old Hywel (who had his abscess coming back always when Simon was away and his abscess ops right around my hub's several operations and their complications... ) and then again a year later with Nesta.

I think if you’re considering surgery and she’s in no danger then it’s always better to plan it properly and it’s not long til Tuesday. Sending Florence healing vibes for Tuesday.

Sorry it’s not better news :( try not to worry. I shall be thinking of you both on Tuesday x
I've calmed down now. @VickiA you are right if a jobs worth doing etc.
Florence as any piggie deserves the best and when I put her and Mrs Dougal back in their run. . Guess who got the best sleeping spot. She's show ing no sign of illness which I should be grateful for . . I feel that last two weeks nothing really happened but we tried with meds.
Thank you guys again I'm in your debt and I'm very very grateful. Stay safe. X

AW Dave :( sorry to hear its not going Florence's way :(

If it's any consolation my bigpig Grace was at least 4yrs old & had a big abscess on her cheek, the vet cleaned out all he could as it had grown round vital structures in her neck, he couldn't remove the capsule, but he marsupialised it.

Then I flushed the hole with baytril 2x daily, she was on Zithromax orally for about 3-4wks, once her hair grew back you would never have known it was there!

Ps the vet had her on baytril for a few days & I requested Zithromax, so she didn't have her operation for approx 7-10days hoping not to operate.

Good luck on Tuesday.

as the others have said, it's probably better to have a well prepared & organised op, than rushing in today.

She'll probably need to be on Zithromax for at least a week or two if it is an abscess.

Don't take it to heart that your piggies have been poorly, think of it that you're such a dedicated & devoted owner that you notice all their health problems at the start, a bad owner wouldn't notice they were showing obvious signs of illness in the first place.

These little munchkins do like to keep us on our toes & are VERY good at hiding signs of illness due to their nature of being a prey species.

Even the most observant owners often aren't aware until its too late :(
Healing vibes being sent Florences way for a full & speedy recovery luv the girls & I 🐹 🐹 🐹 🐹
Xx

Sorry to hear the news but if Florence does have an abscess it really is better to have the whole thing removed.
Jemimah had a persistent abscess which constantly recurred.
It was finally surgically removed and she’s never looked back.
She was older than Florence at the time.

Will be keeping you in my thoughts for Tuesday

Sorry that it wasn't the news you were hoping for Dave.
I have everything crossed it goes smoothly for lovel
Sending you hugs David. I know with your piggy health history it's easy to think the worse but try not to over think this and worry yourself to bits before she has the op. Peanut had a lump the same size in the same place last year. I opted for removal of the whole capsule because whatever it was it needed to be gone, it was an abcess. Peanut was fine and is still fine, aged 5.5 years.
I getting mixed up. Sorry. Can't seem to get rid this so I put on silly message.

I'm reading messages again with clear head etc. Thank you x

Sorry to hear this Dave but to be honest nearly all abscesses usually need surgery sooner or later, to remove them or open them fully- I was quite surprised they only gave antibiotics on your last visit... paws crossed and healing wheeks for Florence and hugs for you (and the dent in your wallet as well as your heart these poorly piggies cause!) X
Again thank you.
Florence is Brill this am in off work this week and I'm piggie watching. Lol

So sorry things have not gone to plan, hopefully it will all be sorted for you on tuesday. I once had a piggy who developed a huuge abscess under her throat, so I don't think that it's large size means its not necessarily likely to be an abscess in Florence's case. In the case of my pig the abscess had spread around other structures in her neck such as her thyroids so the planned removal of the whole capsule turned out not to be an option. Instead the vet had to open it up (under anaesthetic), clean it all out and stitch in a penrose drain and put her on zythromax. She made a full and speedy recovery so I think there is every chance that Florence will make a full recovery too, whatever it turns out to be. Sending healing vibes to Florence
Wow that was some operation. . Pls went well x

Try not to worry, she’ll be fine! I was more worried, when nothing was being done about this, apart from antibiotics! She’ll be back to normal, in no time, now! xx

Best wishes to florence. The worrying is temporary, you'll never stop it unless you down a bottle of whiskey. (don't do that though, Florence needs you after 😂)

Last message ment to send but vet came out.
I'm home now and cleaned and fresh Hay all round with love
