Piggie looks like she has mumps Do i need to PANIC.

Those more wise and piggie savy had a idea and well. .
Not a abscess but a tumor .. which has been removed.
I'm trying to be sensible and remember what vet said etc
. Florence is home and very groggy and taken to a tunnel to sleep which I'm guessing is ok. Op was late afternoon and i was shown the mass horrible soild lump which is to be sent for testing and well guys I'm praying that the God of Piggies gives me some slack.
Sheryl said she "shelled" the tumor out when as she expected it was not a abscess . . It was not attatched or round anything and came out good if you know what I mean. . except small blood supply. Size of a golf ball.
Got meds to read and give but I'm leaving her to rest she's well popped.
I'm very sad but I will not let this latest setback stop me giving piggies the love and life I'm best capable off as you guys do yours

Great to hear the lump has been removed. Hope she recovers quickly under your care.

My piggy had a hernia and he was very quiet after his op - hid in his house and wasn't normal for a good few days. Fully recovered now though!

She'll be sleepy for a while David, it's quite normal. Sending Florence healing vibes and I am hoping she will make a speedy recovery. It sounds like your vet knew what she was doing. X

Glad that she has come through her op and that the tumor was still encapsulated.
Fingers very firmly crossed for a good recovery.

She is likely going to be somewhat groggy for the next few hours.
Tips For Post-operative Care

Oh Dave it sounds like things went as well as possible given what it was.
Remember that it was good they got the whole tumor out and that it wasn't tangled up in other things.
It is good it is gone now too.

I know she will thrive with your loving and capable care.

This is bit new to me. Had a piggie op before but he was up and about when got home. . . Not sure tho how long that was.

Just like people, all piggies are different,, and it also depends on how long the op was.
Ruby came off the operating table already trying to nip the nurses, whereas Eddi took a lot longer to get back to himself. Both had fairly short operations.

Glad it went safely and she is back home. If she had the op late afternoon the anaesthetic has to work it’s way out of her system, so she will be groggy. You might need to give her a syringe feed at bedtime
Yes was late op 4 onwards. She's was moving a little on way home and got a nose rub off me.
She fast asleep with if you see Mrs Dougal 20200505_204240.jpg
You say feed . . Is that as well as Cisapride
Which I've read is a gut stimulant.

Good that Florence is now back home and sleeping of the effects of the anaesthetic.

After Betsy had her spay, she was high as a kite and looked well spaced out. When I syringe fed her her evening feed she would only take 0.2ml at a time and only took 5ml at 10pm. I got up at 3am to syringe feed herand she took it at 0.5ml intervals and only 5ml again. After the anaesthetic had worn off it was full on speed feed syringing! So expect Florence only to take a small amount of food first of all. You could also see if she will eat some dampened pellets in the cage. Once she has slept it off I'm sure Florence will bounce back and be her normal self again.

0.02ml that's so little. Phew well done. X

Went to bed at 12.30am Gave Florence her 1st med and she was just a statue hardly any movement. I be honest I feared she was not good. . read as much as I could and prayed a little.i.
I got up at 5 and she was up not very active and my good morning voice etc was hinted with love you piggie.
Mrs Dougal was hiding so I placed some leaves next to Florence in total optimistic went for me brew . .

Just leaves no cucumber but guess small steps.
Bless she's now gone asleep in same place.

My guinea pig, pebbles, had a lump exactly like this, it felt solid and she was in a bit of discomfort, i could tell because she started sleeping a lot more and wouldn't be as active as before.

We took her to the vet and they confirmed that it was an abscess, not a tumour, which needed removing asap. She wouldn't eat any veggies but adored fresh grass so if you can find any of that I'm sure she'll gobble it up, only if you can you get if safely! I called it 'magic grass'!
Hope this helped a bit
