Minnou’s piggies

Nothing like (being an idiot) playing tug o' war with your guinea pigs.

I had some carrot in my mouth and wanted to see who'd take it from me.

Gaia was straight over and just started casually nibbling on the other end - Gaia: 'Yes, Slave, you just hold this carrot for me. And don't drop it! I shouldn't have to tilt my head down to eat...'

Then Minerva latched on and was trying hard, with all her might, to take the carrot off me. It was like having a pit bull ragging on the other end.

Decided giving the cage a quick spot clean before breakfast is quicker still if they're both out of the way so got them both out and let them free roam.

When I was done and their grass mountain breakfast was all set, I went to get them.

I caught Gaia first and was going to head straight back to the cage with her until I noticed Minerva was in hot pursuit so I changed my mind and went a different direction to see if she was following us back to the cage and breakfast, or, following us because I had Gaia, who was complaining nonstop in my arms.

Minerva kept following so I started jogging through the house with Gaia still in my arms. Minerva picked up the pace and was chasing after us wherever we went. 😆

Gaia would never run for her though. Poor bub. 😆

Dear Gaia and Minerva

I hear that your Slave is making you, Minerva, run now in order to get your breakfast! While Gaia gets grabbed unceremoniously and then joggled around whilst complaining loudly about this. Free roaming is exactly that free roaming. Not being made to run around in ever decreasing circles or being held tightly whilst being bumped up and down at your Slaves whim! You may have had a poop free cage to go back to and a mountain of grass but that is still no excuse for your Slave to treat you in this manner.

The next time she wants you to free roam start a sit in protest and refuse to move. If she tries to pick you up then move just out of her reach so that she can't achieve it. Wheak loudly at every given opportunity and poop even more than you do already. Slaves love to pick up your poop which is why they do it so often.

Yours disgusted at the behaviour of your Slave

Miss Bramble

Dear Miss Bramble,

I was disgusted merely by being picked up! And the Slave had the audacity to pet my head and plant kisses on me! I only stopped complaining when the Slave started jogging because I wasn't sure what was going on but before that and immediately after, I severely mauled her clothing.

In the Slave's defence, she didn't make Minerva run around; Minerva does that on her own... a lot... especially during her solo explorations.

*Minerva pipes up* 'I'm REALLY fast!'

Gaia: Don't interupt me when I'm writing!

Anyway, the grass was exceptional today so I'm feeling quite lenient. There'll be plenty of pooping going on though, for certain! I'll try to save some for afternoon floor time and drop it in multiple locations so that the Slave has to work harder. Minerva can help.

Thank you for your concern, as always.

Your friends and admirers,

Gaia & Minerva

As I have no self control, I just swooped down on Gaia and picked her up for a kiss and a cuddle so fast I think she was stunned. She didn't complain at all. 😆

But Minerva did complain. She came hurrying out of a hidey so quick, whinging the whole time, so I put Gaia back.

Then Minerva did a few laps of the cage with intermittent popcorning - stopped in front of Gaia's nose - sniffed her - then started swaggering/rumblestrutting about for 5 seconds - then laid down.

I think Gaia may be the only sane one of the three of us.

Oh poor Minerva had a piece of hay stuck in the corner of her eye. I gently pulled it out but it was longer than I was expecting.

She wouldn't open her eye fully until after I'd removed it, now it looks fine. She hasn't been rubbing at it or bothering it in any way. It doesn't look sore, hasn't been watery, there's been no blood, discharge or cloudiness. And she's happy as larry and still ramming her head into hay piles, even as I'm writing this. 🙄

I'm keeping an eye on it just in case. If she did develop an eye infection how long would it take for symptoms to start appearing? Immediately? A few hours? A day?

In my experience if there is a Haypoke it develops very quickly.
You’re doing the right thing in keeping a careful watch but hopefully you managed to retrieve the hay before any damage was caused.

At the moment, her eye still seems fine. She must have done it during the night because it wasn't there when I said goodnight to them and gave them their veggie snacks but I noticed her squinting this morning then spotted it.

With them both being in season, they keep chasing each other around and part of Minerva's rumblestrut performance usually involves her faceplanting the floor and rolling manically around like a dog in a mud puddle. So that is probably how she has done it. 🙄

The pair of them almost got squished!

I was making a cuppa and had no idea they'd both snuck over to see of they could mug me. Just so happened to look down and Gaia was inbetween my feet and Minerva immediately behind my right foot.

It's just as well Miss Bramble is taking a well earned break from her Union Rep duties with Aunty Lilli. I think if she was in the Office, she would be penning letter about you to Gaia and Minerva this instant!

Couldn't the letter simply tell Gaia and Minerva that deciding to suddenly go stealth-mode underneath people's feet is a bad idea?

Generally they're noisy - I can hear one of them knocking something over right now - I hear them talking, the pitter-patter of their feet, rummaging around through bags/boxes... they only turn into ghosts when they're up to no good. 😏

I do a perfectly good guinea-pig impression, in my opinion! A proper, realistic wheek!

Does it get a reaction? No.

But when I just say 'Whee, whee, whee' - Gaia starts wheeking.

Minerva ignores me at all times. 🙄

I've noticed a difference in Gaia; she seems more amicable lately.

She's still a sassy, little boss-pig with a serious face and attitude but I notice she popcorns more, runs around more, is more sociable with me, mauls me less and trots over to see me during floor time and she goes adventuring with Minerva whereas before she'd stay in one room and let Minerva go off on her own.

I wonder if having that drastic full body summer furcut is the reason for the changes?

Gaia isn't very bright so I'll assume she has only just come to appreciate the benefits of the furcut.

That is all I can think of. 😆

Now you need to feel safe with Gaia.....🤣

That will never happen... Likewise with Miss Bramble. :flag:

Don't let Miss Bramble hear you calling Gaia not very bright. :hmm:

If Miss Bramble sat with me and watched Gaia repeatedly booping her head on the ceiling of a hidey because she couldn't find the way out of it even though she's walked through it 1 million times, I think she'd be inclined to agree with me.
