Not the outcome I was expecting this morning.

We all went in for 8:30, did the paperwork and handed over the bag with hay, veggies and a fleece tunnel to the nurse.
Then we waited for the vet - an exotic specialist from Birch Heath who now also works at my vets.
I was very impressed by the thorough check he gave Micah before the x-ray, just as thorough as the one he did last week.
Vet still not entirely convinced it was a dental issue, but today he found a lump that hadn’t been evident last week.
No x-ray then, Micah had an ultrasound instead.
He has a mass in his abdomen, most likely attached to his liver.

We have 2 options.
1. Surgery to try and remove the lump. Very high risk.
2. Palliative care for as long as Micah has left.

I opted for palliative care rather than put him through the trauma of surgery with no guarantee of a positive outcome.
He is bright, happy, enjoying life and he doesn’t know he’s ill.
I have meds for when he needs pain relief and will keep up the syringe feeding to help his weight.
We will make lots of happy memories and live for each new day.

My hope now is that he will pass away peacefully at home when the time comes. 😢

I will now discuss the whole grief process with myself and be thankful that I understand it and how to manage it.
I believe in resurrection ❤️
 
So sorry it wasn't better news for you and Micah. I hope you are able to keep him comfortable at home for a good long stretch still.
 
I’m so sorry it wasn’t the news you were expecting. I hope he has many more happy days left with Ruth. Poor Micah. Sending you a hug @Merab's Slave. All his friends will be waiting for him when his time arrives.
 
I’m so sad to learn this - dear Micah - you’ll continue to give him his best life ever and lots of new memories to make 🥰
 
Oh Heather - nothing quite prepares us for days like these. Such an unexpected and unwelcome discovery. I’m so sorry but at least Micah doesn’t know what you know. And he can still rumble at his beloved wife and squash the corner tunnel to his heart’s content. I hope that he has many more hair days with you. Big hugs xx

Ruth and Micah are still here.
This is not a random picture of a pile of hay - really.
It’s a bit cold so snuggling together in a hay pile is clearly better than any of the fleecy tunnels they have in the cage.

They would also like Miss Bramble’s advice on a feeding question.
Is it fair they were made to wait for veggies until the slave deigned to return this evening just because daddy slave didn’t want to upset the invaders in the study and he didn’t know what to give them ?
 
Dear Micah and Ruth

It is totally unfair that Daddy Slave made you wait for your veggie dindins. Just because you have some intruders (sorry visitors) in the Study for a few days is no excuse whatsoever. Couldn't he have given them what you have? If it isn't what they are used to, it would make a nice change for them to have a holiday dinner. Just as well your Slave came home or you might have starved!

You need to make sure that Daddy Slave doesn't give you a late dinner again. Wheek madly at him and then hopefully the intruders will pick up on your "Daddy Slave we want our dinner NOW" rant and join in. He will be so deafened by all you piggies that he won't be able to hear himself think and will feed you all just to shut you up.

Dear Miss Bramble,
Thank you for your reply.
We are pleased to report that dinner today was on time and we were fed first.
We have decided that hiding in the hay and not coming out to talk to our slave is a good tactic too.

We wheeked at the invaders who are quite nice really and are encouraging them to wheek even more loudly for food in future.
Our slave says they are going to a nice new house tomorrow and will live in a mansion.
We would like a mansion too.

The Piggies in the Study have gone to their lovely new home.
It has been fun having so many piggies in the house, all demanding food at the same time.

Ruth‘s weight is steady despite helping Micah with his Critical Care and stuffing herself with hay.

Micah is eating well but his weight is down again this week.
He’s now under 1100g and feels bonier.
He’s still happy, still enjoying his hay and his syringe.
He may not be quite the hunk he was but he’s as handsome as ever.
