Merab's Herd

Oh just seen this, how very sad. I am so sorry you lost little Micah. We were just thinking it might be a miracle. Take heart that he slipped away with his little wife beside him

Popcorn high little man 🌈

It’s an end of an era.
Tomorrow Ruth is going to live with @PigglePuggle and Piggy Daddy where she will have lots of piggy company and a fabulous home.
I will miss her and Micah very much.
Ruth is beautiful, feisty and in the year I had her I didn’t find a food she didn’t like.
I’m so glad I was able to share her life, even if only briefly.

The coming months will see some big life changes for us and when we are retired we want the freedom to travel so we are taking a break from piggies for now.
There will be more piggies in the future and a new thread will be opened for them, meanwhile I have enjoyed sharing the joys and sorrows of Merab’s herd with people who understand an obsession with piggies.

It must be so hard for you giving Ruth up so soon after Micah passed. My heart goes out to you.I have no doubt that she's going to a lovely family who will make sure she's spoilt and gets to live a happy life with piggie friends and for you to be able to do that shows how much you care about her.Big hugs xx

Aw I’m so sorry that you too have made the decision to have a break from piggies 😞 Along with @Bradshaw Piggies, that makes 3 of us 😞 I was more of a lurker to this thread rather than a poster but I will miss hearing stories and seeing photos of your piggies but Ruth will have a fantastic home with @PigglePuggle, piggy daddy and their herd

I hope you and Mr Merab’s slave enjoy your retirement and I’m pleased to hear you are staying on the forum x

I hope you are staying too Claire.
I was just thinking there are 3 of us in the same position at the same time too.

Thank you. To be honest, I’m unsure yet whether I will stay as right now I’m finding it too painful but I hope the pain will ease after Esme is in her forever home. It’s so sad that me, you and Nichola are in the same position but it’s lovely that we’re able to support each other x

My lovely husband took a last photo of Ruth for me before she left for her new 5* home with @PigglePuggle and Piggy Daddy.
She looks so cute and innocent - who was to know that Ruth the Meep was really a homicidal galactic monster!
Apparently bonding was a spectacular failure - due to Ruth deciding that she didn’t want to bond, she wanted to eat apple instead and turning into a fiery, fighting fur ball.
Oven gloves were needed.
No pig was injured but she will continue to live alongside the PigglePuggle herd so she has piggy neighbours but can‘t cause chaos.
Hopefully this will work.

It’s such a heartbreaking decision to make rehoming our last piggy but you’ve done the best thing for Ruth. I’m so sorry that the bonding failed but I’m sure she will be very happy having piggy neighbours rather than spending her life completely alone x

Hopefully she just needs a little more time. From reading between the lines, it sounds like Micah was an exceptional companion and a lot of piggy to live up to. I'm probably phrasing that badly but I think you know what I mean. ❤️

Having been away when Micah died and Ruth left for her new home, I came home for the weekend. A nice break from the workmen.
It was very strange not being greeted by piggies, not going into their room at night for a chat and pea flakes, not saying good morning and doing the breakfast for them before anything else. The loss hit home and today I spent several hours sorting and cleaning out the piggy room. It feels real now - there’s no more piggies, at least for a while.
Back to Yorkshire tomorrow for another week of work but the house is looking good and beginning to feel like our home.
Roll on July

Sending you a hug. We don’t realise the routine they give us until it is no longer there.

Enjoy your new chapter of house move, retirement and holidays. You know a chapter further on will have piggy wheeks in it. ❤️

Are you moving house @Merab's Slave? Sorry if I’ve missed something somewhere

I know what you mean about the house feeling strange not having piggies in it and getting used to a life without them. It’s so so hard 😞 (((hugs))) x
Yes - we retire in July and are moving.
This is one of the reasons to have a temporary break from piggies as there will be some major life changes ahead.

Sending hugs to everyone who is pigless, I got up this morning after coming home yesterday and opened the fridge door to prepared their breakfast and realised they are still boarding. I’m off to pick the little monkeys up soon, it is so strange and quiet without them

I feel that Ruthy-meep-meep may have been reading "A Guinea Pig Pride and Prejudice" and is regretting her initial attempts to attack and bite chunks out of the handsome Mr DantyBoo, for she is mooning about at the cage bars watching how magnificent his chocolate-ginger brindled breeches are, amongst his rolling acres of hayroom, as he is kind to his elderly Uncle Theo and lumpy Granny Blod and so respectful of his angry ginger sister Frida-Muffin...
Mr DantyBoo really is a catch, and his nonchalant flirting is exemplary- he's quite the heartbreaker, and has such a tragic-yet-gorgeous countenance as he glances wistfully at Ruth, the only ladypig who ever doubted the sincerity of his earnest young affections!

Second chances? 🤞🏻
I think we might have second chances, the barrier now being protective angry big sister Frida who didn't take kindly to an interloper trying to eat her brother!
Frida came to us at only 5 weeks old, with her mum and auntie, and she is mostly blind, and also the youngest smallest girl- though with a very big, assertive and loyal personality! So she's quite set on knowing who is family, the piggies we had when she arrived a year ago, and her current position in the ladies hierarchy (she's 2nd in command, after Queen Granny Blod) and very protective of little half brother Dante because she was there when he was born...
Ruth has some negotiating to do with Frida if she decides she wants to join the gang, but Dante is such a little ray of sunshine, I think if Ruth convinces him, he can sway things with Frida!
Going to wait a few weeks before trying again, let everypig settle...
