It never rains........

Unfortunately Ginger Pig isn't doing too well. He started to have pink pee last week so it was off to the vet again. Another ultrasound and no sludge or stones, just a little thickening of his bladder wall. So Cerenia prescribed for 3 weeks. Sadly a week on he still has very pink pee and is losing weight, so making another appointment with vet today.

I'm finding it upsetting to see him so thin but he is eating veggies and grass and I'm topping him up with syringe feed. I don't know what else to do. He is alert and seems ok in himself, wheeking for food and hungry. We have spent almost £1000 at the vets in the last 8 weeks but he doesn't seem to be getting any better.

After recently losing Mavis i'm a scared we are going to lose Ginger Pig too.😢

So Ginger Pig is at the vets today for more tests. Blood tests to check his kidney and thyroid function. X-ray to check if his arthritis has gotten any worse and a double check for any other stones in his bladder that they could have missed on the ultrasound. They will also take a look at his heart.

I know the cost shouldn't bother me but this is another £350 plus any new meds he may need. I must be their best customer. I just hope they get to the bottom of what is causing the weigh loss this time.

Oh poor Ginger. And ouch the expense. I’ve had exactly the same sort of costs just recently, too. But at least by doing all the tests you can be sure that nothing is missed and that you’re giving Ginger every possible chance. Huge hugs xx

Oh no :( Fingers and paws crossed for good news at the vets, and that the only thing that hurts is the cost.

I’m so sorry lovely Ginger Pig still isn’t feeling his best, I really hope you can get some answers today. I really hope you get a break from all the vet expenses and visits soon. Sending enormous hugs and healing vibes to you and your gorgeous boy xx

I’m so sorry to read that poor Ginger Pig isn’t doing too well, sending hugs  I hope they can find out what theproblem is and it’s easily treated x

So the vet just got back to me. Sadly Ginger has an enlarged heart and also his arthritis is now throughout his spine. The good new is that is kidneys and bladder are in good shape. We will have new meds to help his heart and also Tramadol for the days when is arthritis is giving him a lot of pain. He is already on Metacam, Gabapentin, Cerenia, Cystease and 4Joints. It's becoming like the meds round on a hospital ward. Hopefully, we can keep him comfortable for a little longer and will make sure that he isn't suffering. He is almost 6 years old which is quite an age for a skinny pig.

Allan has gone to collect him from the vets.

Ginger is lucky to have such an attentive pair of slaves to dote on him in his old age. Hugs x
We have now added Frusol, Vetmedin and Tramadol (just for 7 days and then as required) to his meds list.

Only a £460 bill  It's a good job we love the little fella so much.

I’m so sorry it wasn’t better news Yvonne, poor little man with all those meds too but I hope these new ones help and he’s feeling much better soon. Sending lots of love to you and Ginger Pig from me and the gang :hug:xx

Ginger Pig has been very well cared for to reach such a venerable age ❤️I'm sorry the news wasn't great... I wish your time together will still be full of cuddles & joy despite all the medication. He's such a cutie pie btw! Also I feel your pain with the vet bills...😓

Hello,
I have a month old guinea pig that ate too much lettuce and carrots and got diarrhea, I took her to the vet today and she gave us some antibiotics and diarrhea medication. The thing is that she's not eating anything, no hay no pellets, I thought she had no appetite due to pains until i tried to give her a carrot again, I didn't feed her but she was so happy to see a carrot and wanted to eat it so badly but I can't feed her fresh veggies cause that's what got her a diarrhea in the first place.
I read some info in the internet that you can syringe feed your guinea pig by smashing the pellets in warm water to thick consistency, can I do that and force feed her? Or what can I do? I'm really nervous.
Thank you

Oh Ginger Pig 😭 Here’s hoping that cocktail of meds will make him feel more comfortable. I have a soft spot for skinnies 💕

You are trying so very hard for Ginger and he will know it. Sending lots of hugs and best wishes to all of you for more happy days x
