Eriathwens piggies

So, luckily everyone is doing well lately. Mum's good, Pandas pooping normally, the long run of weird and wonderful health issues seems to have decided to take a break 🥲

I've been sat with Panda having a cuddle to cheer myself up. I hadn't mentioned, but while Mum was in hospital I was told one of my friends had passed away in an accident. Tomorrow is her funeral, and while I cant be there in person they're live streaming it for those of us unable to attend.

Shes got that little old lady look these days, bless her, but she certainly hasn't slowed down 😅

I’m glad your mum and piggies are doing better now. So sorry to hear about your friend. That must have been a huge shock for you. Sending hugs to you ❤️

Forrest and Silver went to the vet Wednesday to have an incisor trim and for Forrest to be checked as he was a little under the weather again. He had slight crackly breathing so he's back on Co trim for the next 2 weeks.
Unfortunately I've found him acting like something is stuck in his mouth, I'm worried that after all this time, his molars may be starting to show problems, I've got my alarm set to call the vet first thing, fingers crossed it's something daft like he's tried to swallow a piece of the removed tooth (wouldnt be the first time!) He looks so sad though bless him.

Aw, it's difficult when a piggy is under the weather! I hope the vet can help him and get him comfortable again ❤️

Thanks guys, luckily it seems to have been secret option number 3... a piece of stick/thick piece of hay had lodged itself across the roof of his mouth between his teeth, and has caused an ulcer. She was able to remove it and had a good look of his mouth while he had some gas. He's feeling much more comfortable and has been doing nothing but eat wheat bran and soaked pellets since getting home!

To say I'm relieved is an understatement! He's getting a check up Thursday as 9 of them are going in for a meds check, but obviously any issues before then she will see him again.

I know you are experienced with satins. Do they usually have sharper nails? Master Boris still has nails like razors but is about 18 months old and showing no signs of satin syndrome.

I don't know about Satins but Brillo who is a Teddy and not Satin still has the sharp thin baby nails, he's coming up for 6 years old!

I must admit, they do seem to be sharper. Finley never lost his "baby nails" either, they were always quite sharp at the front. As it effects the hair, it would make sense it effects other keratin!

Well, it was that time of year this morning, meds check appointment time! So, having carted 9 piggies down the vet they've all had a clean bill of health minus the issues they're on various meds for, which was nice. Forrest has gained weight since his last appointment and she's happy with how Panda is doing as well 🙂

Lots of complaining in the carriers as they usually go by themselves, on arriving home I discovered that Oliver and Amber were kicking up a fuss because they were happily hiding, while Fern stomped all over them 🤣

So glad they came through their health checks well and Forrest is looking so much better now

Panda has gone downhill very quickly, she went to the vet a few weeks back to have her arthritis checked and see if she could be on gaba and paracetamol too, she was about 740g then, she has been wallowing the last couple of days and almost overnight developed bumblefoot, I had been putting barrier cream on them in the hope of stopping them worsening but they broke into sores yesterday.

So she saw the vet again today and has gone down to 620g in spite of supplemental feeds twice a day. Unfortunately it looks like she has lymphoma 😔 her guts, heart and kidneys all seem to be good, which is something, but she will be 6 and a half next month, not a spring chicken. She has a recheck next week to see if her condition improves with extra feedings 5-6 times a day, and to see if her feet improve with flamazine. She did say that her feet looked good compared to what they could look like, a mix of the metacam and catching it early, but they still look awful to me. The sores are very shallow but she really does not want to put any weight onto them.

I'm going to be splitting her and Mabel away from the big group to give them both some peace from the youngsters, and so they can get some extra calories as they're both being bullied a little bit.

So yeah, she isnt in any pain other than her feet which we can sort, hopefully, and she's not suffering so there's no major decisions to make for her just yet, but it seems we will be saying goodbye to her sooner rather than later 😔

Poor Mabel, old age doesn't come without it's problems. I thought I was losing Red in July and then realised he'd been off since going on Gabapentin. I stopped it and he picked up again, could it be that that sent her downhill?

Possibly, she was initially put on it due to a drop in weight and sore knees, but she may need a lower dose, they all get a pretty high dose at 40mg twice a day. She could easily go half that, I'll see what the vet thinks.

Hope Panda and Mabel perk up with the extra feeds and having their own space 🤞🏻

She has such beautiful panda eyes. She looks like she is a good patient, sweet old piggy. Yes, a bit of peace and quiet to eat in with her friend must be good ❤️

Poor Panda. I hope some peace and quiet and extra food help her have many more happy piggy days with you. ❤️
