Eriathwens piggies

Pearl has obviously found herself in the wrong place at the wrong time and recieved a bite. Luckily its only a graze from someone snatching a mouthful of hair, rather than a puncture wound. I've cleaned it up and put a small dab of flamazine on it for now and I'll see how she does, she can always tag along to one of the many appointments I have at some point if I cant get her one for herself if she needs it.
Poor little loaf.. being blind she doesn't always get out the way in time when the others are bickering, or runs into someone else if they're running around.

So, end of last week Biscuit rejected a piece of suture material and I was able to snip it off, I left a message for my vet to see if he wanted to see her because I could see some other little bits coming to the surface so she has an appointment later.
I'm an absolute bundle of nerves though as I'll have to go straight from the vets to the hospital for an MRI on my back. I've barely slept I've been so nervous about it so I've got a screaming headache and I've barely been able to eat anything.

I’ve had an MRI and I was dreading it as I thought I would suffer from claustrophobia but it was absolutely fine. Just lay back and think of nice thoughts, they sometimes play music on headphones but the clanging of the MRI is really just noise, nothing to be scared about x

It looks well healed 😊

Yeah I'm not usually claustrophobic, unless I can get stuck somewhere, it's more me being allergic to everything I'm a little concerned about the contrast, the possibility of needing surgery and I cant actually hold my breath for very long 🤣 it says in the letter i may need to do so for up to 20 seconds and I can barely manage that, I have no idea why considering my lungs are perfectly decent with all the running 😅 I've kind of got a plan for the animals if surgery happens but I'm still not covered for any days spent in hospital. But I'm trying not to worry about that when it might not even happen yet!

Biscuits incision is looking great from the outside! But especially around the top under the skin is rock hard still and there's still some pus coming out, so I'd imagine she's going to be having some bits opened back up again to remove any easy to get to suture material. The less that's in there, the less there is for her body to react to or reject. Such a frustrating recovery for her, but it was always expected due to her issues during the surgery. Luckily she's got her new antibiotics which should cover her until the sutures should dissolve naturally, shes gone from the sulfatrim alternative to baytril and azithromycin now.

Oh I fully understand, that’s a big consideration he you need an operation.

Oh poor girl, I hope they can get as much of the stitching out, it sounds like it’s causing inflammation

Hope it all goes well for you both x

Thankyou! Yeah, one of the few times I've truly found myself having difficulties with having so many animals, but I suppose it is what it is, I cant change anything 😅 I'd considered putting some into boarding but I don't think I could bring myself to do it.

Yeah bless her she really isn't happy with it in there, I'm just hoping it isn't doing any damage to the muscle layer but it seemed to feel OK last time she saw the vet if I remember right.

I didn’t have to have contrast dye for my back MRI. Also they only asked me to hold my breath for about 5 seconds. Good luck. I’m sure you will be fine. It is very noisy in there though. I imagined myself in a pinball machine. 😃

Well that was frustrating, but went well. My poor vet was running behind and I had to let him know I couldn't stay too long due to the MRI 🫤 so bless him he quickly checked her out the back before his next client.. luckily she seems to be doing ok, going in the right direction but he couldn't find any of the bits of suture material I'd seen left behind and of course didn't have the time to dig around too much as he had someone else waiting. But I'm happy she's doing good and there's no obvious new issues etc. Bless him, didn't charge me either and got a present of some piggy food they didn't need 😅 so that'll go down well!

Of course I get to the hospital and knock on the mobile unit to be told they're running late and could I wait best part of 50 minutes! Could have stayed at the bloody vet and not rushed the poor sod.

Anyway after about 20 minutes they call and say they were finally ready, the person in front wouldnt stay still I guess. The MRI itself went fine, only took about 10 minutes, 15 at the most, only felt a bit warm 😅 now just to wait for the results I guess! Fingers crossed for nothing too bad.

Thankyou, now I'm slightly less irritated I should probably clarify I wasn't frustrated at the vet, I was frustrated I got to the hospital and they were so behind 🤣 really grateful my vet didn't tell me to come back a different day, he would've been well within his rights to do so 🤦‍♀️ how they put up with me I don't know 😂

Of course because she hasn't been there enough lately Biscuit decided to get something in her ear so off we went to the vet again🤦‍♀️ luckily? By the time we got there it seemed to have gone but it looked the same as when Lily got one down there. She's stopped pawing at the ear or being sensitive about it being touched at least.

Oliver had a good chin scratch through his corn stained chin just now 🤣 such a friendly little chap, although Cherry was convinced he was sneaking treats and not telling his ladies!

So I sat down this morning, contemplating the week ahead, and realised over 3 days next week, I have 7 guinea pigs going to the vet! 🤦‍♀️ no wonder I'm going grey.

Biscuit hasn't been doing too great on her antibiotics, she developed diarrhoea, bloated, and stopped eating. I had a bit of a faff about, added loads of probiotics and began syringe feeding and she seems to have perked up but I'm going to have her checked when Pippin goes in tomorrow morning for her bladder pain. Tuesday Mabel is going in for the day for her diagnostics, Silver is going in to have his left eye looked at and both he and Forrest will get their teeth done, then Wednesday both Pumpkin and Panda are having their teeth looked at, and I'm hoping to discuss the possibility of referring Pumpkin to the Cat and Rabbit for conscious dentals but we will see what happens.
