Eriathwens piggies

So I must admit I'm still struggling at the moment, I'm feeling very burned out between the animals and some personal issues but we're all still soldiering on! We find out tomorrow whether the medication has worked for Maurice or if she will need surgery, I am fully expecting for her to need surgery because that's just my luck, but we will see.

Of course because they like to keep me on my toes, the 2 oldest girls have been death napping like little champions today 😅 Delilah and Ebony both got a gentle poke just to be sure they're OK, which they weren't thrilled about!

So sorry about poor Clover, fancy all those things and she hid them all so well. I hope Maurice doesn’t need the op, I take it Maurice is a she?

Thankyou, yes, she is a she..although originally bought over 10 years ago as a male hence the name. It was only about 2 years ago I realised he was actually a female 😅 I wanted a male specifically to avoid dealing with reproductive issues but never mind!

I've made Finley an appointment for the end of the month for a check up, his hips are starting to show some muscle atrophy and he began bunny hopping, I've started him on painkillers as I'm pretty certain he has now begun showing signs of osteodystrophy, as I'd been waiting for him to do. Luckily he is still well in himself and the painkillers have helped, however my vet is on holiday when I originally asked for the appointment, but no rush, I just need to make sure his jaw is not currently effected really, he has everything else he needs.

Yesterday had been incredibly stressful, Maurice saw the vet again after I was half an hour late due to an accident, unfortunately we didn't get the best news, the egg follicle is still there although no longer leaking yolk it's effecting the nerves to her digestive system. She was given an enema to hopefully help unblock things and help her poop although nothing yet. I am to call to update on Wednesday where we would either PTS or book her in on the Friday for surgery..which is where I very nearly went and cried, I also nearly went when she said that my vet had said as it was me they would do it at a discount 🥺 they really are a fantastic lot.

I got home, put Maurice back and had a good cry on the floor because even at a discount I had no idea where I would find that kind of money in a week! I updated my friends on Facebook as bless them, they're quite invested in the animals.. one of them suggested crowdfunding and that she would share and donate.
Well, 4 hours later my amazing friends had manage to pool £350! I've woken up today to find I now only need to find £65 to be able to save little Mo.
I've been massively overwhelmed by people's generosity to save a little gecko most of them have never met 😭

How lovely! I bet that made you smile and lifted your spirits :hug:I hope it goes really well for poor Maurice 🤞I’ve heard of tortoises suffering from the same problem and they have to drill through the shell to remove the eggs.
I hope Finlay does better and has more movement on painkillers 🤞

It really did! After such a rubbish week that really did help. Funny you should mention that as she also showed me pictures of tortoises she had done the surgery on, it was like bunches of grapes coming out! I'm glad Maurice only has the 1 egg after seeing that.

I've just caught Finley mounting and rumbling at his ladies so he can't be in that much discomfort bless him, hopefully not anyway. His cage is closest to the radiator as Tilly loves the warmth, so hopefully that's also helping with his bones.

Aw the painkiller seems to have done the trick then for fruity Finlay 😆
Yes, I saw the tortoise op on telly, it was quite gruesom, they had to cut a small hole in shell 🤢 and then superglue it

How very kind of your friends ❤️

How very kind of your friends ❤️

It really was, I got a message from one of them just as I was leaving for the athletics club for a run a couple hours ago that I could book her in for the surgery as she had put in the final £50 needed. When I got back from my run a friend at the club gave me a little bit extra as well..its been very overwhelming but between all of them they have completely covered the surgery 🥲

Poor Paddington had to see the vet today as he started urinating blood, he is on metacam and baytril in the hopes he has a UTI but a tumour or stone is looking likely as his bladder is very inflamed. If the meds don't help then he will go for an xray next week, if it's a stone he will have surgery to remove it, if it's a tumour unfortunately he will have to be euthanised 😔

Paddington began straining last night, he hadn't been drinking evidently and was trying to pee with an empty bladder but he is very painful still, even after getting fluids and producing urine again.
I managed to get him seen this morning but they were unable to do xrays due to being so swamped, he is going back first thing tomorrow. I have a feeling we will be eurhanising him, the vet we saw today said he could also feel a mass/lots of inflammation. He did manage to get enough urine for a sample, blood and protein were off the charts and he still has an raging infection which may be resistant to baytril.
I am still crossing everything that xrays show a stone and he can go straight into surgery, but I am convinced its a bladder tumour at this point. The only good news we got is that he isnt blocked up 😔

Oh poor little man, I truly hope it’s not a tumour 🤞 He’s such a lovely little piggie, I remember seeing him on the RSPCA website and thinking of you, and you’d reserved him

Little man was put to sleep this morning, I woke up to get him ready to head in for xrays and he was unable to walk.
He deteriorated in the car to the point I knew he was dying as I walked into the vets, he was taken out the back and given oxygen while we had a chat and even if we could have brought him back from where he was, there was no fixing his bladder.
My vet found a mass on the neck of the bladder just as the vet yesterday did, this was cancerous and likely had begun leaking urine into his abdomen. Putting him through treatment wouldn't have been fair and wouldn't have saved him 😔

Oh I am so sorry for you, Paddington was so lovely, you will miss him so much. Take care of yourself, these losses/illnesses take such a great toll on us.

Sleep tight little man 🌈

So very sorry that you lost your handsome boy. Sending big hugs.

Popcorn free across the rainbow bridge Paddington. 🌈 ❤️

Oh not the gorgeous Paddington! He had a wonderful life with you and he is now popcorning and out of pain at the Rainbow Bridge.

Thankyou all, I'm gutted, I really hoped it was a stone but knew deep down it wasnt. I cant believe how many animals I've lost to cancer lately 😔

Ebony has taken it especially hard, Paddington is the 7th friend in her almost 6 years that she has lost and she never really does well with loss. Even though they have not lived together for about 18 months, its clear their bond and friendship continued through the bars.
Luckily Mabel has been comforting her, I'm going to get her out later for some grass and some treats, to take her mind off things, distract her and encourage her to keep eating.
