Eriathwens piggies

So sorry for your loss.
You gave Paddington a wonderful life and that last gift of love.
I think we know, deep down, when what we hope isn’t really the case, especially when you are so attuned to your piggies as you are.

Be gentle with yourself as you grieve.
Holding you in my heart ♥️

Thankyou, luckily Ebony has perked right up since getting her veggies, I need to go up and do pellets..I fell asleep on the sofa 🤦‍♀️ but it's been a long few weeks and I'm exhausted.

One of my friends had also had a bit of a crap day so she came and picked me up, we got some food, went for a walk along the river and ended up in the pub, as you do. Only had 1 drink but it was enough to knock me out once I got home. It was nice to get out and take my mind off things though.

I dropped Paddington off this morning with the crematorium, I am collecting both him and Clover next week 😔

I was talking to one of Tillys previous owners last night, apparently he was breeding with her over 6 years ago 😱

In that case I was quite a bit out with my age estimate for her by a good 18 months or so. She is somewhere between 7 years and 7.5 years old! No wonder she has a list of health issues as long as my arm. That being said, she may be a little saggy and thin but she's looking quite good for her age!

There is also a possibility that she is Ebonys mum, or at least aunt, given the age ranges of both of them. Ebony will be 6 in a couple of months and came from the same person.

So Finley had his appointment today and yeah, he is showing signs of osteodystrophy, unfortunately that also includes his jaw although his teeth currently seem to be ok. We will keep adding in pain medication as needed like we did with Leonard for however long we can keep him comfortable. We will cross the bridge of dentals when we get to it.

Tilly tagged along as she had been a little quiet the last week or so, not so much lethargic as just..off. This morning her right eye and nostril were producing a fair bit of discharge so I was glad we had the appointment! Luckily she doesn't have an URI, but the weird little polyp growths she has in her conjunctiva were very dark and angry on that side so she has a week of isathal and metacam, so hopefully that helps. Her ovarian cyst is the same size as it was, and doesn't seem to be causing her issues.

Thanks, they're lovely little piggies aren't they, bless them. I'm trying not to be too gutted about it tbh, I got Finley purely because this was the likely outcome for him and I wanted him to be somewhere willing and able to deal with it, this was always the plan, at almost 3 years old he took his time showing symptoms so secretly I hoped he would escape this horrible disease. But I'm confident we can manage his issues, Leonard lived an almost full, happy life, he first became unwell at about 2 years old and ultimately it was his bladder issues that took him rather than the OD, Finleys bladder so far is absolutely normal.

Tillys quite happily bimbling around at the moment so she doesn't seem too fussed about the outcome of her day out 😅

Today was Maurice the geckos surgery, unfortunately the issue was not as simple as we hoped, she had either a tumour or scar tissue cutting off her bowel so we made the decision not to wake her back up 😔

It's been a hell of a start to the year! Luckily Tilly seems to be responding well to her meds and Finley is still eating away happily. Everyone else is also their happy little selves.

According to Facebook we've had Bella, Pearl and Cherry a year today, which has flown by. I got them a treat of chard and some tomatoes, first time I've seen any for weeks!

I am so sorry you had to say good bye to Maurice today. Sending you hugs.
I am pleased to hear Tilly and Finley are doing well.
Congratulations to Bella, Pearl and Cherry, it's a year since you landed on your little feet there. Enjoy your treats.

So sorry that you had to make that decision for Maurice.
Even when it’s right it’s heart wrenching under those circumstances.
Holding you in my heart ♥️

Thankyou, it's a decision that I always find extremely difficult to come to, I have been very lucky with how many of my animals have been able to be kept comfortable until a very quick, natural passing.
She had begun vomiting so I had already braced myself for the potential of a blockage, which made the reality of things a little easier to deal with. But I am still missing her a great deal, at almost 11 I've spent 1/3rd of my life with her.

I am so sorry you had to let little Maurice go, sending hugs, you must be gutted 😞

Thankyou, I really am 😔 it should have been such a simple spay surgery but of course none of my lot ever read the text books. Tumours are apparently extremely rare in geckos. I couldn't have hand picked a better vet to try though even if I had the option. She was incredibly knowledgeable from the few talks I had with her, my usual vet said yesterday while I was collecting metacam that if she couldn't have fixed her, no one else really stood a chance and I'd already pretty much come to that conclusion myself based on what I'd read about her online, although to hear it from him too does help. Maurice got the best chance we could have given her. Doesnt make me miss her any less, but not having any 'what ifs' floating around makes it easier to carry.

Quite a bit to update with the piggies, I'd taken a little time to gather myself after everything so stepped away from most social media, forums etc but am feeling much better in myself.

So, firstly Panda created a urolith in her urethra, I checked her 'penis' and found a stone had built up between it and the inside of her urethra so it's shaped like a lentil. She had become a little uncomfortable when peeing so I'm glad I checked!

Tilly has finished her meds and her eye and nose have stopped producing discharge, she had been a little quiet but is now back to normal.

Finley has been doing very well on his painkillers and is nice and active, although a little thin around the back end still.

Silver, Forrest and Ebony went to the vet this week. The boys went to have their teeth done as they just will not allow me to do it anymore after all the applications of their nose ointment. Silvers neurological issues have got a little worse so we have decided not to go ahead with the cartrophen injections in case the stress from them causes him to have seizures, he can begin having his gabapentin 3xs a day instead of twice if he looks like he will need it.

Ebony was a little painful again when going to the toilet and had been rather quiet and withdrawn. Initially I put it down to losing Paddington but it persisted, she developed a sore on her front left footpad and I grew concerned it was unrelated to her bladder. She is having pain in the lumbar area of her spine, she has a few weeks to allow it to settle down as her foot is healing, not infected/progressed to bumblefoot however if she still seems painful she will be started on gabapentin as well to manage her pain.

Phew..
Bella and Bailey are beginning to bicker, which is upsetting Biscuit.. makes sense as Bella was repeatedly returned to the rescue due to her not liking living with small numbers of pigs, after losing both Clover and Paddington that group is now a quad, so I am keeping an eye out for a new male I could add to their group to keep them in line 😅
I think that's everything so far! They've certainly been keeping me busy.

Weigh day for Little Lily, she is such a small girl. She will be 10 months old in a couple weeks and she is only 764g! At this point Amber and Iris were at least a kilo 🤦‍♀️
I am considering a health check with the vet although personally I cant see anything wrong with her, much like myself she is just small and a bit jittery 🤣 but doesn't hurt to be safe.
