Does This Require Urgent Vets Today?

The vet phoned there, Toast has improved slightly. She is still very bloated (it's gas bloat, I asked) and still not pooing, but she has been active and is WILLINGLY taking syringe feed. So that's positive. They've given all the meds and injections they can give he's said tonight will be crucial. If she manages tonight she stands a good chance, if she deteriorates through the night then my vet and I discussed that I'd take her in tonight to let her go so she's not in pain.

I'm absolutely not expecting anything i know she can still go downhill but a small improvement is a good sign

Only just seen this... so sorry you have had all that to deal with ... sending love to Toast and hugs to you xx

I've been following this and thinking of you both. I'm glad to hear she's shown a small improvement and will be keeping everything crossed. Sending hugs and healing thoughts. x

Oh Toastie you sweet little muffin, fingers and paws firmly crossed for you and your piggymom. I really hope tonight goes well and that she continues to improve.

Are you bringing her home tonight then?
Yeah I'm getting her now.

I was given the option if having her kept in to be fed throughout the night but was also told that as she's had all her injections that's all they would be doing and I can do that at home. I think she'll feel better being back home too, back with Beans as well

Thanks everyone. I'm not getting my hopes up at all I've been told there is a very real chance she could go back downhill with this bloat.. But I'm determined to get her improving again by tomorrow

Ah that's great that you're bringing her home, she'll do much better than in a strange place. :)
Best of luck tonight, you must be running on empty.
Will check in tomorrow but not bother you much as you will need rest/ time to focus on Toast. xx

You are doing an incredible job caring for little Toast. I have everything crossed here for you and her. She could not have hoped for a better or more devoted piggy mommy xx

Thanks everyone you are all amazing.

That's her home now. She's still very bloated and wanting to sit but definitely a bit of improvement since this morning. She's back there first thing tomorrow morning to see how she's getting on so I'll keep you all updated. Hopefully this is the last night without sleep and she'll be better tomorrow!

As soon as I put her in the cage Beans ran over and licked her face, she missed her sister :luv:

Fabulous news! Bless little Beans, I'm sure she'll take great care of her sister ^-^

I've only just seen this, I'm sure toast will be fine, she's got a great piggy mum & sis. Get some rest, I've got all fingers crossed for toast x

You are an incredible piggy slave. I hope you have a good evening and that Beans continues to look after her sister.

Just caught up for the day. Glad to hear that she is feeling a little bit better. I will still keep everything crossed for a complete recovery. Keep strong tonight little Toast, you can do it.
Keep your chin up tonight. Good luck from all the piggies here, rooting for you xx

Wow, just caught up with this. Poor poor you and Toast. I cannot believe the vets attitude a few days ago, you must have been out of your mind with worry.

So pleased Toast is improving and keeping everything crossed for you, what an incredible Guinea owner you are x

I'm no expert, but maybe some of the mess have given her a bad tummy and then because of all the loose poo she's become dehydrated and picked up a UTI?... poor little baby, how's she doing now?

An improvement, no matter how small at least shows she hasnt given up. If anyone can get her through this its you...and Beans of course! Everything still crossed for you all x

She's taking the syringe easier, and although she can't and won't eat veg, I offered a small bit of pepper and she sniffed it then tried to bite it. She didn't try to eat it but she's not even attempted to look at veg since Saturday so that's something.

I do worry that this is just too much for her though, there are some glimmers of hope but then her eyes just look so sad, I feel like she may have had enough but I don't know if she's ready to go. How do you tell? It's breaking my heart that i can't decide if she's had enough or not

Around 3am I thought we may be getting somewhere as she took her 1am feed and done a poo for the first time in 3 days.

However Toast has slowly deteriorated through the night. She's lay in bed with me all night curled up on my chest and she's became very weak and sleepy. I've just attempted to give her her 6am feed but she didn't have the energy to fully stay up and just wanted to lie flat. I got a couple of syringes into her only to realise she wasn't swallowing any of it and it came back out her mouth.

I think I know, but does this mean it's time for her to go? I've tried everything I possibly can and it's just not working.

I'm so sorry, this is what happened with my mummy pig, she just wouldn't take the syringe feed and it kept falling out her mouth and I knew then that she'd given up.I'm so sorry your going through this.We are all here for you x

Food is life for piggies and when I can no longer provide that to them then I usually make the awful decision.

Only you and Toast know when it's time.

I'm so sorry.

I am on holiday and using up all my free data following this thread. That vets attitude a few days ago was appalling! I can't believe that someone who is supposed to be a caring person who loves animals can have an attitude as bad as that! He probably thought what most people think ... It's only a guinea pig. She's not only a guinea pig. She is a living breathing animal with feelings and she is also your pet and you love her. You have done your very best for her so if it is time to say goodbye don't blame yourself nobody could do any more.
