Does This Require Urgent Vets Today?

Do you mean expensive as in for consultation or even for meds/treatment etc? I phoned and they're £92 to be seen, they didn't mention anything else though

That's not bad realy, many years ago l was charged 300 pound on a bank holliday to get a pig with a uretha stone removed!
A pair of twisers to remove the stone and it took all at 2 minutes

I haven't kept the itemised bills. I think the consultation charge is what puts the bill up so much. They then charge you for all drugs, tests etc in addition. From memory those weren't much higher than my own vet's.
The consultation charge has been worth it for me on each occasion.

I have an appointment for toast tomorrow morning anyway now, do I just wait until then? I'm worried she's getting worse as she's still not done any poos but is straining trying to, or at least that what I think it looks like she's doing.

She's also getting more bloated and looking a bit like a balloon

I've phoned my vets for a 4th time to explain that unless she is seen tonight she won't be alive tomorrow. He's agreed to see her now. I'm so angry that I've been saying how severe this is for over 24 hours and only now is something being done.

Well done on getting the vet to listen to you. Let's hope he can sort your beauty out xx

He's giving fluids and shot of baytril as he's concerned that nothing is coming out of her so it's all just building up inside... does that sound right?

He's said apart from that there's nothing else to do apart from keep syringing.

Also changed from Ranitadine to a shot of Emeprid

Perhaps she needs a scan of some kind to check for blockage? Hopefully the fluids will perk poor Toast up! :(
I did think that.

I've got my own vet tomorrow morning so I'll go over everything with him, I'm confident he'll know exactly what to do.

Is it possible that the fluids could perk her up so quickly? Because I've just got her home put her in her cage and for the first time in 2 days she's had a little wander around the cage sniffing at hay...

Glad the fluids seem to have helped and I hope your own vet can work out what is wrong in the morning.

I spoke too soon. She went back to being more fluffed up and lethargic.

She's also shivering, or what I'm assuming is shivering. It's not cold in my room but maybe she feels cold as she's not well? I've given her a heat pad in her hay box

Oh no, poor Toast :( I don't really know what to suggest from here! But I will pray for Toast x

My nerves can't handle this! I'm torn between making her walk/run about to help the bloat but also letting her rest as she much be exhausted.

2nd night of no sleeping, here we go!

I truly sympathise with you staying up with Toast. Bloat is the worst one as you just can't leave them. When my little one had bloat I went between making her walk around for 5 minutes and then resting and more massaging and vibrating things on her tummy. I found the walking around did help her, especially if I made her walk round after her dose of gripe water.

I will keep my fingers firmly crossed for little Toast tonight. Try and keep your self positive. Take 10 minute power naps while Toast is resting. Good luck guys xx

I think Toast has started to give up. She's not really swallowing any of the feed, She's not done any poos and she's massively bloated, none of the gut stimulants seem to be working this time for some reason.

I was meant to take her in at 10 am today for another issue but I'm going to phone at 830 to see if they can take her in right away for the nurses to try feed her and give more subcut fluids

Sometimes injected meds have a better effect so hopefully they help Toast. If the vet isn't too far it might be worth just turning up for opening time.

It's just round the corner from me so I'll phone first thing and ask to get her in right away. I don't want a vet appointment as we know what's wrong with her, just the nurses to get her in fluids etc so I hope it's not a problem

Thanks every one. I've just dropped Toast off at the vets early, they're going to get her started on subcut fluids. The past few hours I've just got this sinking feeling that it's already too late, her little body just looked so exhausted.

My mum thinks I should be putting in a complaint about the OOH vet who refused to see her 3 times over the weekend. I've tried desperately to keep her going but she maybe wouldn't have been in such a state if he had seen her when I first asked. Or is that just anger talking?

Definitely put in a complaint! If you want your pet to be seen them they have an obligation to do that! Especially when Toast is so poorly!
I wonder if it's some kind of blockage? I would've thought the gut stimulants would've worked by now otherwise :/
Please don't give up Toast :( Were all rooting for you!

I've been following this thread and I'm so sorry your going through all this.Sending loads of healing vibes to poor toast and massive hugs to you xx

I've not sleep in 2 days so I can sit with her and feed her, but I also don't want to force her to keep going if she's had enough, It's so hard. I'm now thinking blockage too actually, I'll mention this when I go back.

And I do think I should put in a complaint but the issue is that the OOH vet co-owns the practise along with my usual piggy vet. I don't want to leave the practise but I do think something needs to be said.

I have also been following your thread and thinking about you and the lovely Miss Toast.

Right now I would just concentrate on caring for Toast, and also looking after yourself.
A complaint may be in order in a week or so, but focus on what really matters in the short term.
Make notes of when you called and what was said, while it is fresh in your mind, but then set it aside to come back to once everything settles down again.
I think you are understandably very stressed in addition to being exhausted, so it is better to direct your energy towards something positive - caring for Toast.

As always we are cheering from afar for her - come on Toast.

It probably feels impossible at the moment but try to get some rest, a few hours sleep if you can whilst Toast is at the vet.

I agree that you should make a complaint, the OOH vet is the emergency vet so they should see any pet. I've been a few times just to get injected meds as the oral ones weren't working.

But like SwissGreys says, that's all for another day. Today you need to look after yourself and concentrate on Toast once she's home.

Lots of get well soon vibes are being sent your way x
