Did someone say bank holiday?

So glad about Donald but that is some vet bill.
Yikes!

My vets included 2 post op checks in the price I paid for Jemimah last year. The least they could offer is a free check for you

Jesus, should at least be one free after op check @Lady Kelly when you’re spending that much too!
My local vets are horrendous but still give me one of those!
Really hope he does well now, have a thread from years ago with Rupert and his scar, 2016 so struggling to find it on my phone, don’t know if similar to Donald and where he had op x

This is Donald's op site. Internal stitches and glued over top to try and prevent him pulling at it

He's still doing dark pink wee's but the vet assured me this is normal in the first few days. He's definitely not as eager for food as normal but has eaten a chunk of celery, chunk of cucumber, half a slice of pepper and a bit of his spring green leaf. Just takes him a long while. He's in the inside cage with daisy at the minute which has perked him up. He's definitely feeling well enough to have a few runs around the cage to follow her every move

Bless him, brave little lad :)
Rupert’s was left open, right above where you can feel the penis shaft (why it was a mad emergency with him!).
That looks great, brilliant he’s moving around after his lady and munching too!

I'm pleased Donald has done so well.i use this vet as my primary vet.all 15 neuters have not had any complications!that speaks volumes for Craigs reputation ! got two boars going in next week and that is £220 ! when my numbers are less i will look at insurance !it saves money in the long run.i hope you win some money !i get charged £16.00 usually for a follow up appointment. I'm sure there will not be any post op problems.xx

Why are they charging soo much. I had my boar neutered for around £60 at the cat and rabbit care clinic. Not that I'm complaining about anyone using a good vet but wow, its not just a little higher its sky high prices at craigs

its because he is a highly trained exotic vet .exprience comes at a cost,he treats alot of weird and wonderful pets.the exotic unit has state of the art equipment.i totally understand where you are coming from, but ive seen neutering that goes wrong and it can cost lots in aftercare.i would rather know that the chances of complications are as minimal as can be.also they keep all neutered boars overnight so not sent home unless they are eating.this is my most local exotic vet.

Its good that they have people in overnight to look after the animals then, thats one thing my vets doesnt have, the cat and rabbit care clinic vet simon is a top vet for guinea pigs and the prices still arnt half as high. Must be the equipment craigs has, i dont know what my vet has, but they have just got a state of the art scanner in lately👍. Plus with neutering i got a free post op check up and the health check before the neuter is in with the £60 price. Anyway though, its really nice to know people will spend out on their guinea pigs to help them when sick👍👍👍

i have known Simon to refere to chine house.i use simon cat and rabbit clinic myself, but if its an out of hours emergency i know my piggies will be seen by an exotic guided vet at any hour.i do not want to hi jack this thread ,so I'm really pleased Kelly has good results for Donald.:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

Just catching up Kelly now am back from hols. Sorry mate :( what a really rough time. Sending you a huge hug and Donald lots of recovery vibes x x x

I can only agree with Eileen. Chine House is not just a vets it's a specialist hospital. Even the large waiting area has two secluded quiet areas and one of those has a sectioned off bit for exotics only. I have been to Simon's and I have just 2-3 other vets myself and the practices are tiny in comparison. Yes it's a high cost and for me I would only go when it's deemed a specialist is needed as my vets are very competent but seriously if anyone ever visits they will understand the cost

Donald's done lots of poops overnight (I know they are his as they are still a bit funky). And some wees because they are pink. I found a funky wee which I'm a bit worried about but Craig said to expect pink/red wees for a few days

Leicester is a do able journey for me, so if poo hits the fan ever, i could get there. Is it north leicester?

Dot is in for her spay operation on friday 🤞

It's a place called sileby, just north of the city off the A6. Takes me around 15 mins to drive from the city

e feeling better
He is Debbie. I have him on fleece in the indoor cage with Daisy so I can keep him dry and keep an eye on his outputs. His wheeker has reappeared this morning too
He must be feeling better! I’m currently caring for a piggy who’s had 3 bladder stones removed. She’s doing well too and sends Donald love and best wishes xx

I'm now not sure that everything's going in the right direction. He seems to be passing quite thick blood with his wee's though they are no where near as painful as they were before his op. Second photo is immediately after he did it and it stuck to some hay. Think I will call the vet shortly for advice. Hope it doesn't mean irreversible damage has been done

Thanks Debbie, in all honesty this is my first experience with stones and such a major op where the piggy has survived. It's so worrying seeing him go through this and my immediate thought was that he was getting worse where the truth is there was only a slight pink tint to his wee that he did a couple of hours back. Will continue keeping a vigilant eye. He's harder to syringe feed now and I like to think that's because he's filling up on hay when I'm not looking

It looks coagulated, so the fact that it's come out in a clump and not red wee could hopefully be a positive! Fingers crossed for poor Donald. If his wheeler is back, I'd hope it's a sign he's on the mend. x
