Did someone say bank holiday?

Only just catching up with your thread, am glad he is feeling brighter.

Been going through a stone episode with my Storm over the last few weeks too and have been a nervous wreck. Simon removed 3 stones from her bladder on Thursday and she is doing well so far. Still on pain meds but at a much lower dose than she was. I had a special family occasion I could not miss after the op so was lucky that Debbie was able to look after her post op, she is home now.

It's a very worrying time isn't it. Glad Storm is doing well. Craig did say that I should try to cut down the metacam in a day or two to once daily and then go down to 1ml a day and slowly wean him off. Craig also suggested that if he wants to develop stones in the future that perhaps he could get them in his bladder as it will be much easier to treat :))

My dad offered to pay for pet insurance for Pippin after I told him how much the vet bill was on Saturday ( £232) - I told him it was about £35/ month per piggie as they are classed as an exotic pet.... He then took back his offer lol but he very kindly gave me some pennies to help ... We do it cos we love them!

I was trying to tell a friend how much it cost and basically you can only have 3 on any one policy and a policy for 3 all in good health that have never been to the vet before is £330 for the year. Heaven knows what I would get charged for Donald after he had an abscess removed and now stone. Daisy had a bout of diarrhoea treated by the vet a couple of years back and Lily has had a womb infection treated and an eye injury. I reckon insurance would probably be similar to Donald's bill

I'm so pleased Donald is recovering well. The rebonding i hope will just be a formality. you can take a sye of relief.xx

It was indeed. Once Lily got over her silly idea that she might be able to challenge Daisys position everything was hunky dory. Although something I have never seen before, Donald would not leave Lily alone with the grooming and was full on picking her eyeball :yikes: I explained to the hubby that he really loves her before letting him know he doesn't need to lick my eyeball to prove his love :))

Oh wow. Only just read this. Glad he has come through.

Definitely have a low threshold for getting him looked at for uti in the future. What you describe sounds more like a stone in a ureter (the tube from each kidney that transports urine to either side of the top of the bladder) rather than the urethra (tube from bladder to outside). A blockage there can cause urine to back up into the kidney itself.

But all looks calm on the western front

(Not a vet related explanation btw, my work is with hoomans but the biology is the same in that respect I expect)

Yea I'm probably using the wrong term. Craig said it was in the tube between his kidney and bladder hence why the surgery was quite complex. Also this is why he may have some long term kidney damage too. Glad he had the surgery when he did though before the damage was fatal

I absolutely hate this but I think Donald is losing weight again. I don't normally weigh him so early in the morning and he is eating with gusto when faced with food so I have no idea what could be wrong. I will weigh him when I get home but it's going to be panic stations now as he was already a low weight and I'm off on holiday for two weeks on Saturday

Just caught up with this thread. It all seemed to be going so well until I read your last post.
I really do hope that Donald is ok, fingers crossed for you. x

So Donald starts eating with gusto but stops pretty quickly. He's all hunched up again and tried to go toilet but was straining so I think it's something related to his surgery. I highly suspect this isn't going to be good news at all

it maybe that his bladder, ureter and kidneys are painful after the trauma, maybe adhesions,i would get him checked out.I'm so sorry this is happening .

I'll be calling to book him in on Thursday. He's not very interested in food and loses interest in the cc very quickly too. He's lost 80g in 3 days. We have talked about what might be best for Donald so we are fully prepared if it's the worst case scenario. In the meantime I have put him back to two doses of metacam a day

sending you positive thoughts,is Donald still passing good amounts of urine ?that is a great sign !

No he isn't. He's straining when he wee's and he's wet underneath (hard to tell if that's a result of what's going on or not as he's got an outey as was often wet down his legs anyway)

Just catching up with Donald’s progress- sounds like a rollercoaster.
Sorry he’s not as good again.
Holding you in my thoughts

How's he doing today, since upping the Metcam? xx

He seemed a tiny bit perkier but still completely unhappy. I'm managing to get quite a bit of cc into him morning and evening and I do still see him eating a little for himself. He's still very hunched though. We have a vets appointment at 8:30 today so will know more

Let us know how you get on at the vets! Have been thinking of you and Donald. Hope he is OK.
