Did someone say bank holiday?

I hope Donald has a speedy recovery,Craig has been very thorough if he has removed a stone from the urethra.i hope you are ok in yourself Kelly.

I'm exhausted and today has been difficult. Luckily my last appointment was a pet owner who was really kind over my forgetfulness. It's just torture waiting

Sorry I've been offline for a couple of days and only just caught up with this thread. I do hope Donald recovers well from his op. Sending big hugs.

Donald is staying in hospital tonight but is eating well and they are pleased with his progress. They thought the stone was in his bladder but it was in his urethra (tube connecting kidney to bladder) and when they got it out a lot of urine that was being blocked poured out! hopefully he will keep doing well

It seems like Donald may have a quirky body as the x ray showed the stone in the middle of the body so he assumed it was in the bladder. During surgery he couldn't find it and that's when he found it in the urethra but usually on an xray these would show to one side of the body. Either way it's a relief that they are pleased with his progress and I'm so glad I took Daisy along with him so he isn't alone

Hope Donald recovers well from his surgery! A stone in the urethra must be awfully painful and very tricky to remove, your specialist vets must be very good to find it and get it out! Healing wheeks x

He is an excellent vet, I have always been impressed by his knowledge and skill since my very first two girls went there. The only thing that stops me using them as my regular vet is the cost as they are more expensive (as you would imagine a small animal and equine specialist hospital would be)

My Rupert’s emergency surgery in 2016 was for the same thing, his was completely stuck and he couldn’t urinate at all. Went really well for him and he recovered brilliantly.
Hope the same for Donald :) x

Sounds very painful.
Poor Donald must be so relieved to be rid of it.
Hope he has a good night and is home recovering well tomorrow

Donald will feel much better now ! we are lucky to have such a competent vet,he seems to like and have a keen interest in guinea pigs ! i hope Donald comes home saturday.gosh he must have been so poorly,if urine was tracking back in his kidneys.you have given Donald the best chance.please try and take time to relax.🤗

Just had a phone call to say he's doing really well but not eating enough on his own. They are hoping by the end of the weekend he picks up further but are happy to discharge him as long as I continue to syringe feed him. Let's pray once he's back in his home that he eats more for himself as I can't do 6 syringe feeds once I'm back at work

Tell me about it, thank god for credit cards. I have 0% on new purchases so gives me some time to clear it. Strict diet from now on as can't go through this too regularly
Seems very high! But I suppose xrays, op and an overnight stay are going to be pricey.
Hope he perks up, gets munching and you don’t have any more horrible bills x get well soon Donald x

Yep so just worked out with GA and x-rays plus fluids and feeding in hospital the day/night before surgery is around £230. Then the operation with all that entails and another overnight stay £600.63 and today's is around £85 for the weekend care plus sending home with antibiotics, metacam and critical care

Ouch, Ruperts op and xrays came to around £350 when he had his, meds around £40, no overnight stays though. And I didn’t need CC.
Still seems high, I’d expect that for one of my nearly 13yr old cats!
Have they charged for 2 piggies with overnight stays?

Nope they haven't charged for both. It's an expensive place to go but it did need a specialist. I've attached the breakdown but this is why this place isn't my regular vets

Oh good. Definitely pricey, can see the differences though. Rupert was rushed in, one anaesthetic, xrays and op done at the same time, not over a couple days, no stays etc. God it really does add up when you see it over a few days.
Rupert’s was a def emergency, was put him to sleep or do the op so didn’t even have a warning or obs done by vets.

Really hope he feels much better now back with you and at home, hope they’re giving you free check ups!? x

Oh no the check ups won't be free. My appointment on weds cost £30.34 so I'm expecting similar

I am so pleased to hear Donald is doing well, I have everything crossed for him that he manages to keep those pesky stones away.
Vet bills can mount up, I stopped counting at £5,000 last year - too scary, but the piggies are worth it to me. The old car passed it's MOT this week so we didn't need that new car fund after all!

Jesus, should at least be one free after op check @Lady Kelly when you’re spending that much too!
My local vets are horrendous but still give me one of those!
Really hope he does well now, have a thread from years ago with Rupert and his scar, 2016 so struggling to find it on my phone, don’t know if similar to Donald and where he had op x
