A place to rant about things that wind you up ( keep it clean lol)

I am done. A week of the meds. A flare up of my right leg on Tuesday which has since settled but of course caught the toddlers nursery germs on Thursday. Headaches and sore throat since. I am exhausted but managed to get to the pharmacy finally today after asking hubby 4 times this week (he's been off work) to nip up and pick up my prescription. Only thing is the pharmacy hours have changed and they now only open 9-6 Monday to Friday so guess I now have to try and get there Tuesday or during my work hours

I'm quite tired right now so not much use, but I just wanted to thank @weepweeps @Siikibam and @Spaghetti & Noodles for your support. It's easy to lose sight of the things you're doing well when there's so much still not done. I will try not to think of the ants as a personal failing; mostly they left after cleaning but we are seeing the odd chancer coming in to see if there's anything good about so will think about ant stations just to stop it escalating to the rest of the kitchen/house.

It’s horrible feeling tired and then knowing you’ve got lots to do doesn’t help. Take things easy. Just do the essential stuff (which will still be lots with kids and pigs). You’re doing an amazing job. It’s ok to feel overwhelmed sometimes. Delegate some jobs to your husband. Take care. ❤️

I'm glad the ants have left. 👍🏻

I've had a stinking head cold since Thursday. Have done two COVID tests as I'm just not feeling any better and also have a cough. Both have been negative fortunately so I take it that's just more of the crap you have to put up with when pregnant and your immune system disappears 🙄

Oh no. That’s all you need on top of everything else. I hope it clears up soon. ❤️

There are a lot of bugs around at the moment. Two people I work with have chest infection and tonsillitis. I have an annoying cough and my chest hurts. Time of year.

Yes I thought I had tonsillitis like a week or two ago but on second looks it was an unfortunately placed ulcer on my throat which is definitely the preferable problem 🤣

Tonsillitis sucks, lol. Still not quite over mine, but I've had to cut the antibiotics short. Not my preference, but eh. There's so much going around at the moment though.
I feel you. I last had it over one new years and we're talking 15 years ago but I still remember how bad it was so vividly

In some ways I got lucky because I remember the pain of tonsillitis from when I was wee, and I skipped that this time. Unfortunately that meant it spread elsewhere (ENT problems, lol) before I realised anything was up. But I promise, I'm doing better than the goblins are on their current reduced rations after someone had soft poops again 😱

I've just been off the phone with the out of hours GP and got prescribed different antibiotics. I don't always react well to penicillins - it's not an allergy as such, I don't quite know how to explain it. The penicillins aren't big tablets, but I'm having difficulty swallowing them and I take enough meds on a regular basis to notice when I'm having issues like that. So, new antibiotics.

I shouldn't have agreed to the penicillin. I knew what the outcome would be. Why did I let it go?! Argh.

Hope you continue to feel better. I think sometimes we agree to something because we live in hope that it’ll work okay!

@Lady Kelly sorry to hear you’ve another thing on top of everything else. Hope you start to feel more human soon. Rest as much as you need.

There does seem to be something making the rounds the last few months.

Caught a cold (don’t know who or where from!) and chest is feeling a bit…uncomfortable. On the upside having takeaway (just me and husband) for the first time since…February!

@Lorcan how are you feeling? Any better? Hope the new antibiotics haven’t reacted to you…or the other way round

@Siikibam the new antibiotics are much better, I can actually swallow them for starters lol. They're bigger than the penicillins, so I'm not quite sure what my deal is on that one. The only issue I have (and it's not new, I remember this from before) is the bitter taste in the mouth. Everything tastes bitter, but even not eating or drinking the taste sticks around. Last tablet tonight though, hopefully by tomorrow evening that'll be gone.

Meanwhile I need a bath. I don't really want one, I'd prefer a shower, but my back is killing me and I could do with the support a pool of water provides. I'm not old enough for a bad back, lol.

Oh I know about lasting nasty tastes! Mefloquine (anti-malarial) leaves a nasty taste in your mouth if it melts even a little on your tongue. Chuck a spoonful of sugar in before you put the tablet in maybe.

The weird thing is the actual tablet tastes fine. Don't ask me what's in that coating, but it's actually nice. The bitter taste comes afterwards, it's why even with the last dose tonight I'll still have that tomorrow. No idea why or how it's a side effect, but it is. 🤷‍♂️

I wish I knew my problem with penicillin. I'm not allergic, but the last penicillin-based prescription I got I just kept throwing it back up, and this one it was like my throat was closing every time I tried taking them. Obviously that wasn't what was actually going on, but I think I'm just going to ask if we can avoid penicillins unless absolutely necessary. Clearly my body has an issue with them somehow.

Your body obviously doesn’t like it, doesn’t really matter why or what the problem might be! Hopefully they listen!

I've had tablets like this too. The ones to deal with severe morning sickness were awful, I don't know why they thought that was such a good idea for an anti sickness tablet 🙄

I haven't had them recently, but for a while I was getting a brand of gabapentin that tasted horrific, and it was even worse if you accidentally dented the capsule taking it out of the foil. No idea why, but taking those wasn't great.

@Lady Kelly no logic at all! ‘Here’s something to help with your nausea. Oh, but it may make you feel worse!’ 😒

Any medication in the form of capsules is hideous! When we were younger, my dad used to take the powder out the capsules and give to us on a spoon. He’d add a drop of water and mix in some sugar and drink. You could still taste it but it wasn’t as bad as plain 🤢

I'm okay with the gabapentin, but I struggle with other capsules (which is what the penicillin-based antibiotic I kept throwing up was). I can take Augmentin, which is amoxicillin and potassium, and I can take it because it's a tablet. Amoxicillin is a capsule. Nope.

I also take a tablet that tastes odd, and it dissolves on the tongue. But it's not horrendous.

Yeah, it's been suggested I might just be intolerant to it. I've had people be like "Yeah but you need to try, y'know," like not wanting to try is the problem, lol. Here's to never needing to try again!

I don’t blame you re capsules. I always feel like they’re stuck in my throat, even though I know they’re not. But antibiotic capsules are normally quite big.

Last time I was told I had to take amoxicillin but I couldn't have augmentin I ended up walking out with a prescription for the liquid. The liquid's tolerable at least (unless you don't like banana).

That's really interesting ... When I was younger, I had to have a medication specially compounded as a capsule because I couldn't take the tablet that tasted horrible and started dissolving too quickly (it was metronidazole ...). The gelatin capsule made it easy to take an had an innocuous taste. Though may I need to add this my pill-taking weirdness ... I also take my pills dry.

Maybe it's the capsule itself that is the problem, or the way the medication is compounded to go into the capsule ... Advil and Motrin are both ibuprofen; Motrin is fine, but Advil doesn't agree with me (pretty sure it has something to do with the horrid sweet coating, but I couldn't say for sure ...). Is there a different brand or a generic for the amoxicillin that you have trouble with?

I think some drugs (or their metabolites) can be released into your saliva. So you ingested the drug; your body absorbed it; and, until it's out of your system completely, it, or one of its metabolites, is excreted into your saliva, which you can taste.

It's a known side effect, which means I at least get to know I'm not imagining it. I'm hoping it'll be gone by this evening now that I don't have to take a dose this morning. It doesn't overtake the taste of other things, I can still taste just fine. Just that bit of an added (unpleasant) twang to everything.

Tried a few over the years, it's always the same result - vomiting. I think it's flucloxacillin I had for the skin infection, where I had to come off that (vomiting) and got a prescription for clarithromycin instead. That said, amoxicillin and flucloxacillin I seem to have issues with because they're capsules, but the penicillin wasn't a capsule. It was a tablet, but augmentin's a tablet, and I can take that.

Bodies are weird.
