Happened to hubby 2 years ago. Someone opened a bank account with his name. Then got 2 loans worth around £10k. He only found out because he got a notice from one of the loan company about mispayment and such. He checked his accounts and lo and behold, it was connected to his business account like around 3 months before!. What we can't understand is why Santander didn't notify him about this new personal account that was opened connecting it to his business account. Santander was useless all throughout that fraud process. No communication at all. We still can't understand how they didn't do any check at all and crossed reference everything like address and phone number, especially when it was opened and connected via his business account
The loan company that sent the notice was very quick. Hubby managed to talk to them on the phone the following day and has tagged it as fraud right away and opened the fraud process. The other company, hubby had to chase it like Santander. Hubby had to contact a solicitor thru our insurance and they handled all the communication. Santander was the one that made it so long. Over all, it took around almost a year before everything was sorted. He cancelled his Santander business account too.
During the process, hubby had to change his passport, driving license and register to Cifas. So every time someone would try and ask for something like this again, it will get flagged and inform hubby first. Last week, they phoned him when hubby tried to buy a tablet from Very.
