A place to rant about things that wind you up ( keep it clean lol)

Maybe I'm being a tad uncharitable, but is it wrong of me to wonder how Rochdale council manages to function, at all? Because I've been here long enough that I've had two voting forms sent out, you know the ones they send out yearly to find who is living at which address and is able to vote? Twice. Twice I've told them I'm the only one here. On a third occasion, I know someone else has told them the same thing.

And still I get two polling cards sent out because they refuse to remove someone else's details from my address.

Council's don't function efficiently, never have. I worked for one for 7 years until I couldn't stand it any longer. Too many employees without any pride in their jobs or comeback if they get it wrong. It's too easy to pass the buck.
In my experience all these types of 'services' are the same. HMRC have taken away my will to live this past 6 months.

I’ve come down with a cold. Struggled to sleep all night because I couldn’t get warm for long. I’m wearing, joggers, two pairs of socks (one thick), a hoodie, hot water bottle, coat and gown but still cold. I may add a hat. I hope this passes soon 😒183C6D06-EACA-480D-B32B-EC4845370055.webp

Hope you feel better soon! I expect it's a reaction from being in hospital all last week with your son.

Why must the NHS always insist on appointments first thing in the morning. Been waiting approx 6 weeks to see the women's health physio and today is the only time they could see me, in a group session because they have no staff, and at the hospital the furthest away from me. Now in the morning the pain is so bad it generally takes several hours of trying to gently move, a soak in a warm bath, and two doses of codeine before I am able to function properly. On a good day this means 9:30-9:45 other days it's 10:30-11.

Nope I have to be at the hospital for 9:30. My wonderful brother has taken some time off work to drive me today. I have managed to get myself dressed with Jessica helping me put my socks on but I know 5 mins into this drive I will be in tears from the pain. Oh well, I suppose when I turn up a state they will see just how bad I am

Today's moan is about renewing our Swiss ID"s.
Thankfully this only happens every 5 years, but honestly it's such a palaver.
We all have to attend in person for photos, signatures and fingerprints (which I do understand).
Then once the ID's are ready we have to collect them in person too.
This means the 2 full time workers in the family have to take another day off for what is a 20 second appointment - - go in, say name, get ID.
I don't understand why one of us can't collect the ID's - I can take along the old ID cards, proof of our address, etc. but no - they need all of us there.
It just seems like a huge waste of holiday.

Bureaucracy for the sake of it

I hope the session helps.

I felt somewhat better this morning. Had to go to Tesco but was knackered out when I got back. I’ve spent the day downstairs on the sofa, had a very short nap. I could do with one now but I’m supervising cooking dinner. Appetite is gone although I’ve managed about 4 oranges. Chicken wings are in the oven but I don’t want them…maybe I could make couscous with salad and salmon…
I haven’t felt this ill in a while, not even when I had covid! But I feel like I shouldn’t rant given what my lovely son went through and what others on here are experiencing as well.

Pity party is over, let me go check dinner and do some knitting 😊

I can't knit at the moment. I want to but it hurts my hand. Ever since I dislocated the metacarpal from my thumb that joins up with the carpals in the wrist, it hurts to knit more than two rows. My hand is still quite swollen and still twinges occasionally. I feel really lazy not knitting as I love knitting. I feel it's such a waste of time not being able to knit while watching the telly of an evening.

I hope you heal up soon and can get back to knitting @Betsy .
I've had to stop at the moment because my elbow hurts when I knit. My daughter bought me the wool and pattern to knit a jumper at Christmas. I feel bad I've hardly touched it. I'm afraid she'll think I don't want to do it as I'd given up knitting a few years ago as I lost interest (I'm not very good) and never like anything I finish. When I started it at Christmas I quite enjoyed getting back to knitting again so I would love to finish it even if I never wear it!

@Betsy is there anything you can wear or any physio you could do to improve it? Are you a continental or English knitter?

@piggieminder sorry to hear about your elbow. It’s good that you’ve stopped, you don’t want to make your elbow worse. Hope it recovers so you can start again soon. And I am sure your daughter would understand if you explained it to her 😊

@Siikibam I'm an English knitter.

It's virtually impossible to get past Hitler on Reception to see a Doctor. I couldn't even get to past the Receptionist when I didn't know what I'd done to my hand other than it was swollen and I couldn't move my thumb. I was fobbed off to 111 who fobbed me off to the Pharmacist who was worse than useless. So the chances of me seeing a Physio are zero.

The OH took my hand while out on a walk, we both heard a crunch and both felt the dislocated bone reset back into place. This was back in January.

That's awful. It wasn't until I recently spoke to my GP that I found out they have a physio that works from the practice regularly I could go and see so perhaps trying asking the battleaxe if your surgery has one

I agree re physio at the surgery. We have one as well. The other thing I would do (even though it’s a pain and you shouldn’t have to really) is to call every day. Exaggerate the pain if you have to, to get a foot in the door. Does your surgery not even do consultations over the phone? Alternatively you could go to a walk-in centre if you have one nearby. Sorry its such a hassle though 😡

Minor rant. I'm not really religious, but this weekend is important to some people. So when Asda says they've sent me 1.75l bottles instead of the Coke cans that I ordered, it's fair, but I panicked. I don't have room in the fridge for large bottles and they go flat so quickly and did I mention panic? Amazon's my only real other option for cans. Amazon only has Coke cans available for Sunday delivery.

Any other Sunday, fair. But not this Sunday.

All Amazon has is imported cherry Dr Pepper which is going to be more expensive but at least, turns up tomorrow. Sigh. Sounds ridiculous I know, but.
Asda have also substituted the goblin's mint for coriander. Can't wait to see how that goes down. And a couple of salad bags but they'll eat the substitutions anyway so that's not so terrible. Why am I freaking out over cans?!

It’s your usual so when it doesn’t get delivered it’s awful !
Hopefully the rascals might eat the coriander ?
You could keep the bottles coolish in the sink with very cold water as a help

Yeah, I might do that actually. I get that the bottles are cheaper than cans and I get that I'm paying something like £3 less for the whole lot but bottles just feel...wasteful? It goes into the same recycling bin, sure, but still. I'll actually have to do some washing up and get a clean glass, lol. If Rochdale had decent tasting water, none of this would be a problem.

Been feeling a bit itchy on my side for a couple of days. Go to the bathroom and have an itch while I'm there and see skin flakes. So despite the severe pelvic pain I twist and pull at my skin as much as possible and sure enough - eczema! I remember getting a random patch in my pregnancy with Jessica and not something I normally suffer with. Now it obviously didn't get the message that I am suffering both pelvic girdle pain and piriformis syndrome because I really don't need anything else on top

Just throwing it out there because I've also got skin issues - would Cetraben be an option? It's the only thing that keeps me from needing topical steroids on a regular basis and it's safe for use in pregnancy. Nothing else OTC ever worked for me.

Hope you can get some cream to keep it moisturised. Hopefully it’s not too itchy - perhaps you could try antihistamines (if they’re safe to use during pregnancy).

Epaderm has worked well for the children, better than hydromol and zeroderm anyway. But doublebase (creamy) is quite good as well.

@Lorcan does the cetraben relieve itching as well? Son has to use steroid for now till its better then can review. He has been using Vaseline (with vitamin E) because all the ones he’s been given don’t really keep him as moisturised…

Yeah, it does. I won't want to pretend it's a miracle cure or anything but it works really well, ankles/knees/elbows/hands/shins and so on. I had Doublebase on prescription, but the Cetraben I can buy OTC so that's what I prefer.

Sounds like it does the job. Son has it everywhere when he flares up. He’s not moisturising as often as he had to before (every hour) which is a good sign. Maybe he can bath with the hydromol. He was given dermol as well for bathing.
