Womble and the plum fairy. :)

Baytril can rid the tummy of the good bacteria as well so consider giving him a probiotic 2 hours before or after the baytril. It may be you'll have to take him off veg for now, but wait and see what others may have to say.

He's on Fibreplex and I'm giving it directly after the Baytrail, I will try to give some time before or after like you suggested. I just gave all his meds (Baytail/Metacam/Fibreplex) at the same time as I do not want to stress him to much by getting him out too often and I'm trying to be careful to not knock his stitches or something.
I think the painkillers from yesterday have worn off as he is a little more sorry for himself today.
He is on metacam, but he had a few things yesterday after the surgery.
Poor bean <3

you really do need to leave a gap between giving the antibiotics and giving the probiotic

Are you weighing him daily? If not, do start, just so you can monitor that he is actually eating enough hay while he is on medication

I only got him back yesterday, but I am planning on weighing him daily.

Yes like Piggies&buns says, leave it an hour or two after the antibiotics or the probiotic won’t do it’s job. Baytril can mess up the gut flora a lot but don’t worry too much for now, just cut out his veg and give the probiotic.
As long as you’re careful picking him up don’t worry about his stitches too much. What dosage of metacam is he on?

He's on 0.16ml once a day.
It's Meloxaid for dogs.

That’s a very small dose, normally metacam is given twice a day with pigs too with their fast metabolism. How much does he weigh?
My Jasper was 1080g and was on 0.3ml twice a day for his.
1.2 kg
I thought it was a small dose to be honest with you. Because Stripe was on 0.3ml twice a day also.
I also thought the antibiotic was a bit of a small dose because Stripe was given 0.4 or 0.5 twice a day with that.

Yes that’s a very small dose, no wonder he’s a bit quiet today, probably quite sore bless him! Could you ring the vets and ask to put the dose up? Especially as Stripe has had higher so it’ll be on his records?

They're not open today. He's out and eating at the moment. So he seems ok, but he is a bit sulky. Poor sore little man. I might call my routine vet and see what they think.

Yeah, all the vets are closed. I can't get hold of anyone.

Yes he could be in pain then, good he’s still eating. I’d definitely try and speak to someone to increase that dose, that really won’t be doing much!

My routine vet and the exotic are both closed and the out of hours are only stating emergencies when I ring. So, if I call with this, they might not answer/be annoyed.

It’s important he has pain relief though the day after an op, and if you think he’s quiet compared to normal then I’d definitely ring. Can’t imagine they’d be annoyed when he’s just had an operation etc and you’re worried. They shouldn’t be anyway!

:agr:

If it was my piggies I would consider it an emergency and phone anyway. It's good that Womble is eating but if he has too much pain he may stop therefore it's an emergency.

The vet said the Metacam is once a day and cannot be raised.
We're going to see how he is as he is still getting, he's just a little grumpy.
The measure I'm giving him his just below what I gave Stripe so maybe the units are wrong. 0.23 ml Stripe was on 0.3 on the syringe.

My Ted is on 0.5 ml x twice a day of Dog Metacam (Meloxaide) for his UTI so they tolerate Metacam very well. I agree it’s quite a low dose. He is on a difference AB so can’t comment on Baytril. I would definitely weigh him as then you will know he is eating enough food. Womble sounds like he is doing very well though, I often find they are a bit flat the day after the operation because the painkiller they inject while under the anaesthetic have worn off x

Yes I noticed he was better yesterday than he is today. I also thought it was a low dose, but that's what the exotic vet put him on and the out of hours is agreeing with it.

That’s such a shame because he sounds like he might need a little bit more painkiller to me X Keep a keen eye on his weight at the same time daily a weight drop is often an indication that he is in pain as it impacts on them feeding x

I will be weighing him tonight and if he's lost some, I will insist on seeing the out of hours to prescribe something stronger.

My 500g chinchilla Pedro was on more for nearly a year! Definitely sounds like less than Wimbledon needs.
Yes definitely weigh him and make sure he’s eating enough like said.

He's the only guinea I know to turn his nose up at fibreplex, I have to syringe it in his mouth and he eats it...under sufferance. When the others had it they were gnawing at the syringe for more!

Never tried mine on fibreplex they've always had Pro-C. May have to get some next time they need antibiotics.

😆 Ted hates it, he’s on that too. The vet said he needed it and was most suprised when I told her he hated it!

Our boys don’t like it either. I could convince Cornelius with a lot of coriander bribes but Benito absolutely hates hates HATES it! He even crawled into my hood just to get away from it. I hope little Womble is feeling better soon x
