What made you happy today?

We were given a voucher for a cookery class for Christmas and today I finally got around to joining an online class.
The chef was from Tanzania so she talked about the country, its food and culture as well as the lesson.
We made coconut peas with chapatis. Very nice 😊

That chapati looks yum! We love our mum’s ‘jawbreakers’ as we nicknamed them 😁 Which flour did you use?

My husband did a top up shop at Sainsbury's today and told me I should go this afternoon as all the clothing is 25% but he doesn't know what Jessica still needs. Well turns out she needed a new king size bedding set for our newly decorated room (also on offer), an adults summer dressing gown in mummy size, and an adorable 0-3 months summer dungaree set 🤣🤣🤣 I think I gave my hormones the credit card but Jessica did get some wellies, crocs, and summer clothes too

Just ordinary SR flour as I didn’t have any plain flour and added some bread flour to make up the weight. I was surprised at how easy they were to make.
They are easy. Using milk instead of water is a good alternative.

If I can be bothered I’ll make some over the coming week. I want to try and bake some bread for my son

Does your son need gluten free bread ?
Yes, we’ve taken him off most things. I usually get him a baguette and there’s one bread he can eat from Tesco. He’s a growing boy and it’s quite pricey so I want to try and make some.

I use Doves Farm bread flour and other flours too.
My bread maker has a GF setting which is good.
I discovered that using an egg helped to stop it becoming too crumbly.
There was lots of trial and error when my husband was first diagnosed with gluten and dairy intolerance.
We could start a GF food thread to avoid further derailment of this thread

I used to be gluten free and there was a Phil Vickery cookbook which was amazing. He made his own flour blends using things like tapioca flour and I used to buy bags of different ones in a wholefoods warehouse locally then mix them at home. A great recipe for roasted garlic scones.

I have just started a thread in general chat for this subject.
Please would you share the roasted garlic scone recipe- they sound delicious 😋

Finally got a proper washing line at our new house, like a real adult.

It's a rotary one but freestanding (comes with tent pegs to help keep it in place) and is completely portable - it even has it's own carry bag. Only £35 from Argos and a bit less with my Nectar points.

My first lot of washing is drying and twirling in the sunshine already. 😊 Now for a cup of tea in the garden before my son wakes up 🤞🏻

Got to love a rotary line and washing twirling and drying in the sunshine 😂

I finally got to my overlock workshop! It's been delayed twice due to my inability to sit in a chair or walk. It was great and we made a drawstring bag, cowl scarf and a beanie hat. Feeling a lot more confident in using the machine now

Of course I’m going to regret this later but my husband and I binge watched Vikings Valhalla until 4 in the morning. Had to be up early for church and I’m feeling the effects already. I don’t know how I used to get up and drop the kids to school after two hours’ sleep!

We went for a walk at a local country park today. Just a slow lap round the main lake. Spotting ducks, geese, swans and moorhens. Looking for dragonflies, mayflies, spiders, beetles, snails etc. Stopped for a little picnic lunch for the mini me and an ice cream after. The dog went for a few swims of course 🙄 but it was so nice to get out and do something "normal" without being in a lot of pain

I've managed to get the whole couch coverings washed, dried and put back on today. 4 massive seat covers and 8 back cushion covers, plus 2 throws and 6 smaller cushion covers. My poor machine has done 6 washes back to back.

The OH has taken the kiddo for an evening bike ride to a local pond to have a fish for an hour so I've got the crime and investigation channel on in the background, zelda on the switch and one of these beauties...... IMG_20230529_204536.webp

Just over 2 years ago we had to rush my cat (Willow) to the emergency vet as the ground bone in his raw food had caused him to become constipated. It has taken me a long time to find a bone free, complete raw diet I'm happy with for him, but he's a fussy sod so I was hoping to buy their sample pack. Unfortunately this was out of stock for months, I contacted the company last week to see if they knew when it'd be back in stock.. their response was to send me almost 3kg of free food for him to try! Which was extremely kind of them, I couldn't quite believe it. This diet has also been put together by a team of vets, veterinary nurses and a veterinary nutritionist.
Anyway, it arrived today and he seems to really enjoy it! I'm hoping we can get his weight back down and keep him fuller for longer, stop him vomiting when he gets too hungry etc which had all stopped while he was on raw last time.

At 11 years old he technically doesn't need bone now anyway and should have been swapped to eggshells if he had stayed on raw but I wasn't confident enough putting my own diet together. He will be getting some chicken hearts, salmon oil and green lipped mussel supplements just to keep everything as healthy as possible.

So yeah.. I'm excited to have him back onto raw again.

Saw a cat outside earlier drinking the disgusting, slimy water out of an old pot I keep meaning to empty now it's gone stagnant. So I went out with an old dog bowl I had laying around, filled with fresh, clean water.

She came back a little while ago and has found it 🥰 I'd never feed someone else's cat, but I'd never deny something clean water!

Oh bless. They must have been so thirsty to try and drink that!

Good day today. My son and his girlfriend have signed contracts for their first home together today.

And my daughters boyfriend has just been told he’s been successful in getting a new job after being made redundant the day they had their mortgage approved. So it’s all steam ahead with their house purchase now.

Not so happy they will both be flying the nest this year though.
