Unexpected Luigi op ☹️

:luv: Aww poor Gigi ,the girls send lots of love & healing vibes, hopefully Lolo's honking has settled down too now?

When Grace had her facial abscess, she was taking the zitheromax for about a month orally, 1wk roughly before marsupialisation &3ish wks after .

The vet gave me standard baytril to flush her abscess hole with.so I've not had any dealings with hibiscrub for that purpose. But it's bound to be good if Debbie the abscess queen recommends it ;)

Grace was a big honker &seemed to enjoy the zitheromax, she luckily wasn't put off of her food at all!

Fingers crossed for a full & speedy recovery.
Big hug  for you too.
Take care of yourself
Xx

Sending love and hugs, these strong antibiotics can be awful on the tummy- do you have any fibreplex probiotic paste? Its really the best one we found, when Blod had doxycycline for her pneumonia and went from eating fine to diarrhoea-then-almost-gut-stasis overnight, then mixing fibreplex with her recovery food made a huge difference- she had her normal dinner just before her antibiotics, then a syringe feed with fibreplex an hour or two later, these medicate-syringe feed marathons are so exhausting, paws crossed things settle and you can get some rest x

Thanks Andrea! It’s naughty bitey Cleo in the other cage that is the naughty honker, but we’re having a good day (so far!) today thank god!
I haven’t even worked out how long he’s on it, but I’ve had problems with it before, with RB Jess and both the RB chinchillas! So I was sort of expecting it I guess, but hoped because he’s such an absolute hog that he’d be a bit better!
The hibiscrub has just arrived, so I’ll be using that next time, going to clean it at least 4 times today rather than 2-3 that they said, want to keep on top of it!
Bless Grace, what a lovely little piggy trooper! So glad it didn’t cause her troubles!
Thank you, feel like I need lots of those atm! Hope you and your beauties are all ok :) xx

Thanks so much :) I actually do in the piggy drawer, got a spare after him and Lolo had dodgy poops a couple of months back! I thought I might use that today actually, have been using Pro C but think he needs something stronger like you say, Zithromax is a dodgy one! So glad it helped gorgeous Blodwen bless her. He’s due a feed now so I might mix it as you suggest, he’s being an absolute with the syringe feeds atm and would make life easier! He even turned down red pepper a little while ago, he’s definitely not himself! Thank you, praying for an easier day and a snooze today! Thanks for your help :hug:x

Oh what a tough time. Hope things get easier for you both soon - sounds tiring and stressful. He is in great hands with you.

I hope he turns the corner soon so he’s not worrying you too much. You should have a nap on the sofa if you’re feeling tired. You have to look after yourself as well.

I am sorry you and Luigi are going through all this. I second the Fibreplex, it's been a life saver in this house more than once. Sending you both hugs. I also second the nap on the sofa.

Thanks so much everyone, honestly you guys are getting me through this stress atm with all your loveliness and advice or think I’d be going a bit bonkers after this rubbish month! And will be missing the gig in Birmingham tomorrow I booked last year for my birthday so a bit sad too, haven’t been somewhere nice for so long!
Yes he’s definitely not Luigi at the moment with this food rejection @Sparklepetal, he’s such an utter pig all the time normally! Sure he eats in his sleep :))
Hope the fibreplex will help a bit, he’s had a clean with the hibiscrub and that with his grub at 1pm. Now for me to stuff something in and have a kip, looks like the boiler man that should’ve been here between 8-1 isn’t coming! 🙄 Thanks guys, I need to sort myself out I know, really not eaten properly (or slept!) the last few days, don’t need a seizure on top too! 🤦‍♀️ Sending hugs to everyone! :) x

Just getting caught up on your thread. Hope you can manage to eat something and get some rest as well. Luigi is lucky to be with you, and you're taking excellent care of him, but don't forget to take care of yourself too.

Come on Luigi. Mummy’s only trying to help you. Hope Luigi perks up to his normal hoggyness soon. Take care of yourself too Becci 🤗

Thanks guys, I’ve had a scoff and a sleep, feeling much better than earlier. Thanks @Hope4gem, I hope I’m doing my best for him 🤞
Thanks too Jynxy and @HeatherW, lovely bit of creasy peach! :D:love::))
He couldn’t resist a bit of dried grass and parsley stalks, crawled out of his nest but only had a little bit.

Then only 15mls of slop (that took blooming ages) and a good few syringes of water that he actually wanted, he drinks loads normally but not seen him at the bottle since we’ve been back from the vets. Then back for a bit more of a nibble :)

But not feeling too sociable today so poor Miss Peepants got a lunge and a chase 🤦‍♀️

Back in his topped up nest now with his two best mates to beat up instead of her! She’s happy enough though, getting her fair share of the grub atm while he’s not feeling his best!

Thanks again everyone x

Please be a good boy for mummy Luigi! Sending lots of healing wheeks.

You need to take care of yourself please. If you have a thermal cup, make s hot drink and something to eat. A salad, fruit salad, sandwich. Something quick and simple. Go with it to sitting room. Have the food then lie down and relax. If sleep takes you then it does. I’m sure you’ve got alarms set.

Thank you, he better be good, it’s the weekend!
I’m going to force myself to eat tonight! Got a Sainsbury’s order through Deliveroo with some quick and easy bits and nice fruit and stuff earlier that I can peck at. But it’s fish feeding and pig veggies and about to go and give his wound a clean so not sure I’ll sleep again, just hoping no issues like last night and I can get a good kip tonight! Thank you

Put a blanket in the sitting room as well. You’d be surprised. 🤞🏾 that lovely Luigi has an easy night tonight so you can get some decent sleep. Early to bed and just wake to go sort him out. 💕

Come on Luigi, munch for mummy.
Please take care of yourself too. I know that's easier said than done. But you need to eat too, hoping you have a more restful night.
Sending massive healing vibes.xx

I’m sure it’d be lovely @Merab's Slave :D:))
Thanks everyone, he’s had a little bit of veg and grass and seems ok so 🤞 no incidents tonight! But will admit I started feeling a bit defeated after the last clean, worried I’m not keeping it clean enough and it looks a bit grotty with the dead tissue etc. But I’ve had a talking to and an abscess cleaning tutorial over the phone from lovely Debbie and I’m feeling a bit better now. (Thanks Debbie!) I’m going to get him in to C&R on Monday so Simon can give it a good cleaning out and hopefully as long as I keep it clean he should be fine over the weekend. Just don’t want problems with this one or him to have the trouble poor Ped had, but he seems ok so I need to try not to stress :nod:
Thanks again everyone, I’ll try and be good and rest and stuff my face! ❤️xx

Please take care of yourself.

You can stay up and give everything for a night or two in a life or death crisis but after that you need to plan in your own needs and regular rest periods. That is the first rule of caring - it is not at all selfish but simple practical common sense - if you collapse, then who will look after those you care for? See yourself as a limited resource that you need to carefully manage to look after both Luigi's and your own health at the same time. It's a lesson I have learned the hard way.

Plan around feeding before you go to bed and then first thing in the morning but only get up for a night feed if you wake up by yourself and are really wide awake.

Just squeeze in a little more feed during the day if at all possible. Zithromax can really wipe the gut; I've been there a few times with piggies of mine. Try some poo soup in addition to the normal probiotics and discuss with Simon whether you can split the dose. It does impact on the full effectiveness somewhat but in some cases it can make the difference being zero and not totally fighting the syringe to allow for less but larger feeds throughout the day; especially when you are really struggling to keep the round the clock feeds up . ;)

Very sorry that Luigi has a rough ride (abscesses are not nice) and that you are going to miss out on your birthday treat. Hang on in there but make sure that you get some sleep and a birthday celebration yourself.

Thanks @Wiebke, I’m sort of getting back into the routine now we’re a couple of days in but just need to get to grips with this abscess I think, it’s definitely harder to deal with than Pedro the chin’s eye socket (but his was a nightmare to deal with at first and I need to remember that too!)! But Luigi is much better and brighter (and heavier at nearly three times his weight) than he was so more of a struggle with him to learn to do, especially as it’s just me and he can be a biter! Will be trying Debbie’s way of pushing him up against a cushion when he has his flush in a little while, hopefully I can get in there more without him struggling! 🤞
I definitely need to try and rest a bit more, I will do now as felt a lot better after my nap earlier! I tend to just give a big feed last thing at night and then get up early, with my epilepsy lots of disturbed sleep isn’t good for me!
Zithromax has caused me troubles in the past so will definitely give him some poo soup as well as the fibreplex if he needs it, thanks. He’s already having 0.7mls of the Zithromax twice daily for three weeks, along with 0.4 of metacam twice daily.
Thankfully I just bought the tickets on my birthday so it’s just a missed fun night really which are rare, but Luigi is far more important! Just hope I can get the pennies back after this week as I took out insurance! My nephew’s 7th birthday on Sunday so I’ll definitely be popping out for a couple of hours then though! :)
Thanks a lot x

I'm just getting caught up. Poor Luigi, sending love and healing wheeks. I hope he feels better soon. You're doing a great job 💕
Poppet wants Luigi to know that his bum crease is as gorgeous as ever 🥰
