Tofu and Patches!

Thank you 😊 ended up having to rearrange the vet for this Friday instead. Keeping a close eye on Patches as he is developing a bit of a lump but he seems fine in himself and his weight is good

Tofu’s grease gland is much muckier than normal, I’m guessing due to the arthritis. I’m debating having to give him a bum bath 😅 I never have before because they’ve never needed it but he’s getting veeeeery borderline so I’m gonna get the vet’s opinion on Friday

They’re both very happy boys despite my worries though haha. Tofu’s weight is right back up at his normal which is a big relief

Back from the vet this morning - verdict is Tofu is in need of a bum bath so I’m going to attempt that tonight. We’re also putting his pain meds up again to keep his arthritis managed. I have no idea how he’ll react to being bathed 😅

Patches’ bumblefoot is flaring again. The vet gave us a soak to do on his feet as well as some metacam for five days and then we’ll see how he goes. He’s also going back later in the month to get some samples of the lump on his tummy - right now it’s not causing problems, but I’ll feel better if we have an idea what it is. He might need to go under general anaesthesia depending how he does which is a bit stressful

They’re both happily back in the cage recovering from the ordeal

Hope the bum bath goes well.
Priscilla needed occasional bum baths because of her long fur.
I put a shallow dish in the bath with the water and towels in the bottom of the bath.
Plenty of towels at hand and treats for afterwards.
It worked at keeping her contained and relatively happy.
I got as wet as she did !

Thank you @Merab that is really helpful! I’ve been thinking through the logistics and reading the bathing guide and the bathroom floor seems the way to go. I decided to postpone Tofu’s bath to tomorrow as he’s a bit stressed out after the vet and I don’t want to put him through another ordeal today

They’ve both just been out for their respective meds

Here’s Tofu very happily taking the metacam (he is not so enthusiastic about the gabapentin!)

And here’s Patches flat out refusing the syringe (he threw it across the table four times before I got some into him - it’s metacam too, not even anything horrible!) Then we gave him his first foot soak, he’s got to have them twice a day for the next five days. He was pretty good about it and dried off on a towel afterwards

6 out of 8 piggies here found them very resistable! The 2 that eat them reluctantly if there is nothing else don't need them!

They are proving well loved here, it’s funny how fussy they can be isn’t it 😂 I just used the glucosamine pellets as incentive for morning meds and it worked on both of them! Normally only pea flakes get that kind of response

I’m a little worried about getting Patches dry after his foot soak. I stand him on a towel for a while afterwards, but he’s still quite damp when I put him back (he kicks at the water to let me know he doesn’t appreciate the soak 😅). I’m probably worrying over nothing but it is quite chilly atm

Ah dear Patches ❤️
He’s such a good boy
I had to give up trying to soak Freddy’s feet - he gets sooo upset/stressed

Aw poor Freddy, it isn’t very nice having to do stressful things to them is it! He’s probably better off without that daily stress. Patches actually seems to prefer the soak to the regular balm (he reeeeally hates that), I’m considering asking the vet if there’s a better daily treatment to switch to

The soak seems to have sorted this flare up out. His feet are still pink but they’re not rough and scaly anymore - will see what vet thinks when he goes in to test his lump next week

Both boys having a nap ❤️

Patches goes to the vet tomorrow to get the lump on his tummy investigated. I am trying not to worry too much until we know what’s going on with it. He seems much happier now his bumblefoot flare is sorted out

They both had a good time during cage clean yesterday. Tofu was doing full body popcorns! I haven’t seen that since his arthritis flared up 😍

Just dropped the boys off at the vet. Tofu is with Patches as an emotional support buddy. This morning the lump on Patches’ tummy had shrunk a bit, I think - not sure why though! Hoping the vet can get some good samples today

He’ll be going under anaesthesia, which makes me a little nervous just as I haven’t dealt with that in a piggie before. Fingers crossed he comes round and starts munching hay (and he forgives me for putting him through this ordeal 😅)

The nurse commented on how chilled out and cuddly both of them are. I am lucky to have two very relaxed boys but I said she should see them at veg time when they’re throwing slices of cucumber at each other! 😂

Good news! The lump was definitely smaller, it bled a bit so they couldn’t get decent samples, but they didn’t think it was worth sending off anyway. It’s not an abscess or anything sinister so they’ve suggested bringing him back in for a full removal in a couple of weeks

Both boys are back home now. The first thing Patches did was potter over to his favourite bed, check it was all to his liking, and then come back to start munching on a fresh hay pile 😊 I’ll keep an eye on his weight but in general he seems good

The boys say thank you for the well wishes!
