Tofu and Patches!

Tofu is still enjoying their ‘bespoke’ tunnel - he didn’t want to climb off it to eat 😍

Patches is having some syringe feed atm as he’s managed to pick up a UTI post-op. Got confirmation that his lump hasn’t spread anywhere else though! That’s a big relief

He’s very good at taking syringes now - and tucks into the pot plenty as well 😂 he’s getting really comfortable with handling and picking up. He snuggles into my chest and headbutts me for ear scritches, which is just lovely, but we’ll see how he feels after the first baytril dose tonight 😅

It probably won't! but with luck Patches will be among the few that actually like Baytril like my Rainbow Piggy The Ever Beautiful Betsy did. Here she is quite happily tucking into what practically every other piggy on the planet hates!

Unfortunately Patches was not a fan 😅 he is in the group with every other piggie apart from the Ever Beautiful Betsy! She was one of a kind ❤️ Edit: turns out Sir George is also in the club, must be very special piggies who like baytril

I did get all 0.5ml down him eventually, in three goes, with much gritting of teeth!
 
Today I learned that Patches likes critical care :D

I’d been using mushed pellets while waiting for proper recovery food to arrive. I was a bit worried as the only other piggie I’ve had to syringe feed was my RB Noodle and he really disliked both emeraid and critical care lol

Luckily, Patches is a big fan of the anise flavour!

Ah so good he loves the cc stuff - my lovely RB Bobby did and we became very close with the meds and cc ❤️

There’s something special about supporting a piggie through illness, isn’t there? Bobby sounded like such a special boy ❤️ Tofu really bonded with me after he started needing regular meds when he was 2 and now he’s the loveliest boy to handle

Patches is still losing weight :( he does like the critical care, he just gets fed up of it so quickly I’m struggling to get 60ml into him per day. Yesterday I only just managed 40ml, with intense side eye from him the whole time

He’s only been on baytril since Monday evening, so I’m hoping the antibiotics just haven’t had enough time to kick in yet. Get eating please, Patches ❤️

He’s down to 1296g this morning 😕 he was 1.38kg on op day last Tuesday and he’s been hovering around 1315g since then

He’s usually up at 1.4kg and was 1435g before the op

I’m offering oats mashed with banana, readigrass, plenty of hay and ofc the critical care. Just ordered a probiotic as well in case the baytril upsets his stomach. He tucks into his veggies and has interest in food still, he’s just clearly not eating enough

A probiotic is a great idea I used one for Bobby

Thank you 😊 it’s stressful but my partner and I are trading off on feeds now which is helping. I’m getting a lot of knitting done in between haha

He is! Twice daily Metacam and gabapentin for his arthritis and eye drops for his eye issues. He’s very good about them, even the bad tasting gabapentin

Patches' weight is down again today - 1285g. I've been trying not to pay too much attention to anything within 50g, as he's essentially been maintaining his weight since I started support feeding, but he's just so much lower than his usual 1.43kg. Even his lowest post-op was 1335g before the UTI kicked in.

I've emailed the vet again, as I needed to send in a pic of his wound anyway (which is thankfully healing well). Hoping they can give me some advice
