The Pigglingtons

Ducky's eye clouded over completely on Tuesday, it looked very sore, he won't leave it alone and keeps scratching at the area around it. I feel so bad for him, he doesn't like me putting the drops in, poor boys only been here a few weeks and the nasty lady keeps pulling him about. The eye is looking more open today so fingers crossed we start to see rapid improvement now.

I had a feeling there was something still in Ducky's eye by the way he kept scratching it. I've been cleaning the gunk round it with saline before applying fresh drops. This morning I dripped a little bit of saline in the eye and dried his face off with a cotton wool pad. As I wiped the area I could see something poking out from under the lid, it looked like a tiny fine bit of hay. I pulled gently and out came a very large seed pod from the depths, the saline must have floated it out. Poor boy, no wonder it wasn't healing as quickly as expected. Hopefully I got all of it and he will feel a lot better and heal up quickly.

Freddie's now got a hay poke, it doesn't look as bad as Ducks but it has a little cloudy spot and the white bit is red. Only last weekend I let the thought pass through my mind that it was quite a few weeks since we'd been to the vet, maybe at last we were going to get a good run. Should have blocked that thought!

I am relieved to say Freddie's eye is starting to improve. It didn't look so bad in the beginning but deteriorated and became infected. I was getting worried he was going to lose the eye as the AB drops weren't working. As with Ducky I wondered if there was still something in it and was rinsing it every day with saline but nothing appeared. Yesterday a tiny bit of hay the thickness of a hair came out from under the top lid. It was really hard to spot. In 24 hours the pus has all gone and the opaqueness has gone down, his eye is looking almost normal. It's amazing how quickly the eyes heal once the offending cause has gone.

Big clean out and health check day yesterday. All but one piggy has lost 40 + grams in weight, probably because they are not getting so much grass now as it's not growing so fast. I will be keeping an eye on them and will obviously take them to the vet if they continue to lose. Ducky has gained 30 + this week and 108 since he's been here, he needed to gain a bit so I am pleased but that's enough now!
I managed to get some photos, all though not brilliant as light was bad and camera struggled to focus.

IMG_1448.webpBertie was being menace biting his bars while I cleaned the others out so had time out in the dirty laundry basket, sniffing out the other boars scent keeps him amused!

IMG_1447.webpFreddie, loves his tunnels, I think I woke him up.

IMG_1450 - Copy.webpTimmy, it's difficult to get pictures of Timmy he always dives for cover. This time there was no cover I'd moved all the hides to clean them out.

Aww hope the weight loss isn’t serious! Glad Ducky likes his tunnel!
Cow print one has arrived this evening thank you. My partner saw me opening it and said "I bet that's for Ducky, it looks like him"! It is Ducky's, Brillo can have his Daisy one back when his Llama one is in the wash.

Hope they all weigh more this week 🤞
Thank you. They are all bright eyed and bushy tailed, eating well and being themselves so probably a blip as they are all the same. I did find a new lump on Brillo, it feels the same as his other's so again it's a wait and see situation. Last October he was put on palliative care so he's doing well and proving the vets wrong. We take every day as it comes

Just realised Brillo is 5 around now, we don't have an actual date but middle to end of November.
He was 3 months ish when he came to us on February 14th 2019, we were going to call him Valentine but it didn't suit him.

IMG_0601.JPG In the bonding pen with Red who was 10 months then. Brillo looks almost the same size which made me question the 3 months age that was given.

IMG_0986 (1).JPG Happy days when they didn't need a divider. They were such a lovely pair for 2.5 years!

Happy Birthday Brillo whenever it is!

Wouldn't that make him 6 years old? Unless you meant Feb 2019.
Such a pity they fell out, they do look great together there 💙

You are quite right, he came to us on 14th Feb 2019, he was born in 2018.

Yes they were lovely together, they still are, just together divided! Red had a UTI and Brillo made a bid for top spot which resulted in a rolling ball and fur flying. They both had nasty bites. It was such a shame and despite several attempts with possible suitors none have stuck.

After days of freezing fog, ice and dull dark days. It's now warmed up, pouring with rain, Bristol is flooding! Just been down to the greenhouse to get the bucket to clean the cages, the greenhouse is awash and the bucket is full of water, glad it's only the greenhouse that's sprung a leak. It's still very dull and dark, tried to take some photos of the boys but the camera won't focus properly, the lights not bright enough.

Sometime this month Timmy and Freddie are two years old and Bertie is one. How time flies. Happy Birth Month boys. Will try and get some new pictures of them when it brightens up.
