The Ever Beautiful Betsy has lost weight

I'm feeding her every 2 hours with SS Recovery Plus. I've just got her out again and she ate more and faster than she has previously. She won't eat it out of a bowl yet (which she was happy to do) but she will eat it off a teaspoon. Hopefully, because I'm feeding her so often she's starting to feel better. Also, I think the buprenorphine injection has kicked in because when I feel her tummy she doesn't complain at all. I suspect the Metaclop she had by injection is starting to work too.

Really sorry to hear that Betsy is poorly. Sending healing vibes from me and the gang. Hope that she is feeling better soon.

The Ever Beautiful Betsy would like to thank everyone and everypig for their healing vibes. She is feeling much brighter today and was asking for her breakfast and Metacam this morning and wasn't hunched up facing the side of the hutch like she was last night. I have been giving her SS Recovery food every 2 hours since yesterday morning and throughout the night which she will now eat straight from the bowl. Betsy has been eating a bit of hay and had a bit of veg last night. She ate half a sachet of Recovery food this morning with oats and mashed banana then when she went in the run she was straight on her hind legs eating the scrummy top of the carrot cottage. She ran around with much enthusiasm rootling around for her breakfast pellets this morning. I am much happier today than this time yesterday but still concerned about her VERY low weight. We all know that when we feel bad we don't want to eat so force ourselves to as we know we have to eat. Animals don't know this. I know Betsy was feeling pretty horrible yesterday because she didn't want to eat. Now that she's feeling better as the meds and extra food is kicking in, hopefully the weight will go back on.

brilliant news, well done you for your syringe feeding every couple of hours, it’s hard and exhausting, try get a bit of shut eye x

Fortunately Betsy didn't need syringe feeding, she just ate the syringe food off a teaspoon before progressing to horsing it down straight out of the bowl!

Good to hear that your dedication is paying off and Betsy is happily munching away.
Hope she’s over the worst now and with meds and food she’ll soon recover.
I suggest a nap for you 💤

Awww Betsy, that's good news, very good girl! Now get on with munching away as much as you can and put that weight back on. Don't go scaring us all like that! 🥗

Great to hear Betsy is doing so well.
I'm just pleased she's eating. She's lost so much weight over the last few days that under all her beautiful fur, all I can feel is skin stretched over bones. She has no fat on her anywhere.:( It's sadly fascinating how quickly they lose body condition to how slowly they gain it again!

The reverse of humans then!

Holly is exactly the same. Skin and bones under her funky hair. Eating well but not regaining much of what she lost.

Hope the girls pull through, weight is so easy to c9me off and so hard to go back on

Betsy is still a walking bag of bones but she no longer has a wet bum so the potential UTI has cleared up. She doesn't like her Sulfatrim and isn't keen on the Metaclopramide but anything is better than Sulfatrim. Her weight remains stable albeit very low around 760g which is around 280g lower than her old weight. She is still eating her eaty poops and having a top up of recovery food every few hours which sometimes she wants a meal of and other times its just a snack. She's still chomping on hay and is happy in herself. Meg is very attentive which she isn't usually and very often they can be found sharing a hay tray or a snuggle sack which hardly ever happened before Betsy became ill.

Well done Betsy. Making mummy very happy. I’m pleased Meg is looking after you too.
