The Beastie Boys

I have totally ditched the hay trays now and the boys are absolutely delighted with their hay piles. Master Boris was an expert at camouflage anyway but now I keep totally losing him as he matches the hay rather well. He seems a little off colour today, sleeping lots and at lap time he just snuggled up on me without any attempts at climbing me. I will be daily weighing and keeping an eye on him. I still have metacam if he seems be in any pain.

He seems totally his normal self today, must have just been having a tired day yesterday. After veggies he has a "do not disturb" death nap pose where he's curled up on his posing platform with his back to us. Yesterday he did this several times so nothing really alarming, just enough to get me feeling anxious about his health. It doesn't take much to be honest as those boys are my life.
I'll still keep an eye on him though.

I've mentally adjusted my way of looking at Master Boris's recent behaviour, instead of subdued I'm thinking mellow. He's not lost any weight, he's actually gained. He's definitely showing no signs of pain or discomfort even during his health checks, which he is submitting to without previous struggles. I'm thinking that he's finally matured as he is about 2 years old now. He's due a nail trim soon, I'll get it done at the vets so he gets a professional check up in case I'm missing something.
Another possibility that's in my mind is that maybe due to him being a satin there was a bit of underlying joint pain (mild GPSS? @Eriathwen is this possible?) that has gone since both boys are still mad about the joint support pellets.
Anecdotal and possibly too anthropomorphic I know but chronic discomfort/pain can present behaviourally different. Sir George started being exceptionally perky after a couple of weeks of them so it does make me wonder if it's relevant 🤔

It's certainly possible there was some inflammation that has died down, SS varies greatly between individuals, so it's entirely possible too he has it just very mildly and will only show symptoms on "bad" days and be otherwise fine!

Master Boris hasn't lost any weight but I'm not happy with his poo. There is a sufficient amount but definitely been smaller than usual and today I found a couple of teardrop shaped and skinny ones. He just quite happily ate some pellet and oat mush from a spoon as well as from a syringe and I've ordered some emeraid.
Everything was good on his vet check but I just have a bad feeling.
If nothing else he loves support feeds, anything from a syringe and he's straight in.

Aw poor Master Boris, get well soon. Good that he likes the syringe feed so at least he won’t be upset about that 🤞🤞

Hope Master Boris feels better soon.
Have you tried sitting with him, when you have mushy recovery food in a bowl?

Billy & Hamish 🌈 both, preferred company when eating recovery food from a bowl or off the spoon. Spoilt piggies!
( Billy would rarely touch it when offered in a bowl)

"Good morning darlings, here's your breakfast pellets. WOW, Sir George, that poo is ENORMOUS, even by your standards. Hmm, should I take a photo of this and post it so people all over the world can admire it? What's the best way to demonstrate just how big it is? Should I display it with other poos or try to remember where my sewing box is to get my tape measure out?"
2 years ago I was a normal (ish) person. This wasn't even an internal monologue, I had this conversation with a very handsome guinea pig.
Just to make it worse, I regret throwing away the poo in question!
😳

Hehe, yes, nice long rambling conversations full of endearments❤️ I was taken by dried guinea pig poo when my piggies came to stay, the shape and texture and because they look like chocolate beans. So I put some onto the soil of a pot plant. After a few weeks of watering, they started to smell exactly like pig manure 🪻🌷💐

It’s OK.
Micah’s poos were usually much larger than the girls so I would talk to him about the torpedoes he produced.
We discuss all sorts of things that people without the benefit of piggies in their lives would think strange.

I just think that if I do start losing the plot in old age no-one will notice 😁

Sir George's fur has changed. It's like he's had a deep conditioning treatment. He's much shinier and silky feeling, not that his fur was rough or dull, but I could always feel and see a big difference between his and Master Boris's. Is it because he's getting older? Is it a possible effect of the pellets, he's still hooveringthem all up after two months. (@Guineautopia ? I'm aware that's any comment you make is not scientifically supported so you have to be careful, I'm just curious whether anyone else has noticed the same?)
