Possible jawline abscess

Yes it is very draining. Me and my husband were feeding Pepper five times a day. Some days we got 100mls into him and he was still losing weight. I hope you get some rest this weekend.

So glad Biscuit has picked up a bit, the more she eats the better she’ll feel and confidence in eating will grow

I board my piggies here https://mariasanimalshelter.com/

Maria’s animal shelter at Probus, they have lots of experience if looking after poorly piggies

here’s her email address [email protected] if you let her know piggie will need syringe feeding and meds etc

Hope you get some respite today x

Ahh thank you. Unfortunately it’s an hour in the opposite direction for me! If anyone knows of anywhere Plymouth or even Exeter way please, I’d be most grateful.
She’s just been hiding since her successful breakfast, so I’ve had to fetch her out again where she’s happily eating on my knee! Just needs some encouragement!

Thank you. That’s good you’ve got a husband on board. Mine does go out the back and collect grass and weeds, but wouldn’t have a clue how to syringe feed!

azithromycin/zithromax (same product), is the best for abscesses.
the thing with antibiotics is that you can’t predict how a piggy will be affected - an antibiotic which affects one piggy won’t affect another and vice versa. All you can do is see how things go and use a probiotic if needed.
i hope she recovers well
Hi it doesn’t say how many days I need to give the antibiotics for, do you have any idea please? I assume it’s once a day as doesn’t say any other? Thank you

He would sit with Pepper on his lap and hold him still while I did the feeding. But it was such a great help. I truly believe I would have lost Pepper otherwise as he was losing weight so quickly.

It’ll be twice a day. She needs around 0.78mls per day, so you need to give twice a day.
Thank you for that, I can’t believe it doesn’t say that on the bottle! Or how many days I need to give it for. The vet said there’s loads in the bottle, so I’m assuming I don’t give the entire bottle?

You give it all. It should last over a couple of weeks

I’m not sure if you can view this for comment?
She’s chewing with her mouth open. She is at least managing to eat tiny pieces of leaves, although very slowly and chewing forever!

Such a brave girl, she certainly has the will to live and keep fighting. You are doing an amazing job at keeping her fed. So pleased that Biscuit is eating and hopefully she will feel better with the food and meds and she will pick up even more.
I know you are exhausted, perhaps your hubby and kids can help a bit by sitting with Biscuit and encouraging her to eat and you can mainly do the syringe feeding when needed?
It's not nice when piggy hates meds and you feel guilty having to force it into them. Can you get some baby food that you can offer after meds to take the taste away?

Thank you. She hates it, she’ll hate me! 🙈🤣

I said the exact same thing about Pepper. Lol. They do still love you afterwards. I think it bought me and Pepper closer. His cage mate Percy was the braver and more friendly one. So Pepper being ill made me interact with him more.

Yes it’s definitely made Biscuit more tame, I can even hoover round the cage and she just stands there watching! I think she’s deaf now though!

Thank you. My little girl does have her on her knee to eat too but it is mainly me. Hubby’s either at work or helping sort the children!
Yes I always offer a tasty treat after meds.
Hoping she starts to eat on her own a bit more now. It looked so promising at breakfast, but then she wasn’t bothered again until I put her on my knee, little madam!
How are your babies after seeing Jess yesterday? I’m so envious that you live nearby!

Ah, I think little tinker is starting to realise she can get extra attention and be on your lap if she doesn't eat 😄 they are sneaky little beasts and know just how to get what they want. :))
Glad you have some help, makes it a little easier if it's not all left up to you.
My boys are fine thank you. I've had them two weeks and they were scratching quite a bit so just as a precaution I wanted them to have some ivermectin. Psychological I know but it was making me itch and scratch too 😆 There are no signs of anything visible but I just thought I'd get them checked over.
We really are fortunate to live so close, just a shame Jess only works Tuesday and Friday. I have told her it's very inconsiderate of her to have other things to do and she should work full time but she just laughs at me. Been seeing Jess about 6 years so she knows us well.
I was just thinking, I know you said Maria's boarding was an hour in the wrong direction but I would imagine the chances of another boarder being willing to syringe feed and look after a poorly piggy would be rather slim... So, is it possible for you (if Maria has room and willing to look after Biscuit) to take Biscuit there a few days earlier, than you'll have chance to sleep and rest before going away? Just a thought xx

Ahh glad your babies are okay. Nice to get them checked over for peace of mind.
Thank you, that’s not a bad idea re Maria. I was thinking I might take her with me. I usually always do, but am staying in a hotel! I think I’ll see if she starts eating normally again as if she’s back to normal, it will be much easier. It would actually be nice to have a break. I have neglected everything and everyone whilst I’ve been caring for her and I could definitely do with a few days off!
Do you use a boarder over in Devon? X

Ps did you see my video above? Was just after some feedback re her chewing, although not sure if it’s a public post or just been sent to one person. Sorry I’m not very technical on here! X

Might be worth a call to Maria anyway as if she can't take Biscuit in then your options are more limited anyway. Can you call the hotel too and ask of its okay to bring a piggy? Some might not allow animals at all.
Just thought you could really do with a break.

Before I got my two monsters, I had a piggy called Bear and his last two weeks I spent nursing him with syringe feeding day and night and I was a wreck afterwards. Towards the end I didn't even bother going to bed so I just sat up with Bear. I know how much it takes out of you so if you have a chance of a rest it might do you good. If you don't take care of yourself, you can't properly care for everyone else.

I've never boarded my piggies so don't know of any piggy boarders unfortunately.
When I had a dog and cats they used to come with me on holidays and they really enjoyed it. Now though, I only normally go out to the vets and that's about it. I stay with my friend locally where piggies come too or I'm at home, I'm in too much pain with my back to do much else so not needed to board my piggies.

I did see the video of biscuit. I thought she looked a bit sore with keep lifting the left side of her mouth but she could have just been moving food around so it's easier for her to chew.
Is she has a lump in her jaw, it might be sore to have food that side.
As long as she is eating, just keep going. Is she eating mushed nuggets?

Ahh I’m sorry to hear about your pain. It’s awful when you’re in pain and have to care for others.
It’s reassuring to hear it’s not just me being wiped out by hand feeding!
She is eating mushed pellets, but only if I put them individually soaked on a plate. I realised she wouldn’t put her head in a bowl of them like a dog might, but she was happy to lick little amounts off my finger. So I tried soaking them individually and hey presto she’s enjoying them!
The lump seems to be more in her cheek, like the fleshy cheek rather than the jaw. There must be something uncomfortable for her, but if Jess has looked, there’s not much more I can do. She’s managed some groundsel, daisy leaves and flowers and some mushed pellets. Still not eating much unless she’s on my knee, but I’m just grateful she’s still fighting x

So
Leo weighs 900g and is on 0.45ml twice daily. View attachment 214408
The vets have just called back. Katie Dunn at the Totnes branch is working towards being an exotics specialist, and she claims I’ve been given the correct dose. I’m not sure what to do now, as I expect I’ve got half the amount in the bottle I should have to give twice a day and I’ve obviously been told half the dose of what the experts here are telling me. What do you think I should do please @furryfriends (TEAS) @PerfectPiggyPaws
