Pigging Out

Well done, sounds like a successful (but very tiring) trip! Hope you can rest ok now and that both pigs continue to do well.

She still has been dozing off a lot of times today but she has been walking in the living room already. Hopefully she would be able to feel much better by tomorrow.

I haven't posted for a few weeks. So here's a bit of an update.

Bryce:
He is doing good. His bottom tooth has started growing recently and so Simon has to tidy his teeth last week. No ulceration or anything but he had to have a whiff of gas last week so Simon can tidy up his teeth. He said Bryce wasn't allowing him to check his mouth and was turning blue screaming his head off! So gas was really needed. He was really clueles why Bryce is having such reactions, seeming like he has PTSD. He said he never had any other piggy like Bryce. Yeah some will scream but not to the point that Bryce was doing it and ending up turning blue and having breathing problems. It also seems like Bryce has 0% tolerance in pain! 🤦‍♀️🙄😑 His next appointment will be on the 7th Oct. He is eating and looking like not a care in the world running around, considering he has arthritis!

Whitney:
Her op recovery has been great. She did manage to bleed on the 2nd week and scratched her wound. The stitches must have been itchy but nothing really worse than some bleeding on the bedding. It already has scabbed over when I noticed it. But after we stopped the Loxicom after 2 weeks post op, she started not moving much and just lying around most of the time. She is still going out of her boxes/houses to eat, but most of the time she is just sleeping. We noticed this week that she seemed to have been having trouble standing up for a long time on her front legs.

Before she had an op and Kim was examining her, we told her of this same symptoms that we thought was associated with the cystic ovaries. Kim told us, if giving her the Loxicom the previous days helped her perked up and walking around, it might not be the cystic ovaries causing it. Coz there must've been some other inflammation that was beeing dealt with by Loxicom. But either way, Kim said her cystic ovaries would need to be removed anyway and then we'll wait and see if the symptoms still persist. And that happened last weekend. She started all the symptoms again. We gave her Loxicom again on the weekend. And yesterday we upped the dosage. This morning she's perky and was moving more than she was the previous days. She also manages to stand up for longer times while eating. Hubby and I are both thinking that she must have arthritis too. We think because she's big and fat, it affected her front legs. She has been already on diet when we first saw all these symptoms so she lose the weight. At the moment she is around 1320g. Before the op she was around 1400g. And Simon did say that there are quite a load of fat that he had to go through during the op. Apart from that though he hasn't seen any concerning thing while he was doing the op.

So for the time being, we'll see how she goes with a higher dosage of Loxicom. We are giving her 4joints now too. And then we will go to our local vets to see what we can do, if we can get xray or something.

What stunning piggies ! I hope you don’t mind me asking but where is Ziggys ?
Ziggy hasn't posted in her FB page for a few years now. Not sure where or how she is at the moment. Last post she had was she was having another baby again a couple of years ago. So she must've stopped her business having 2 kids and being disabled as well, but I'm just speculating.

Oh I see thanks for getting back to me xx

So we've been to the vets this morning for Whitney. It looks like she has trapped nerves in his back legs/hips. The vet stretched out her back legs and Whitney wasn't even correcting her legs to normal position and just left it stretched out. The vet also tried putting pressure on her legs and hips and she was squeeking whenever she pressed her top legs.

For the time being, we will continue giving her high dosage of Loxicom along with Gabapentin too for a week. If that doesn't change anything, then we might try get some xray or some scan (not sure what would it be) if there is something else going on. But the vet did say she can't feel anything else in her stomach, etc., especially when she just had an operation and Simon has already looked at her insides and has not found anything else. We're going to C&R on Monday for Bryce anyway and we'll decide before then if we have to bring Whitney to be seen as well.

We're on our way to take Whitney to Cat & Rabbit. She stopped eating much yesterday afternoon and just in her house/boxes mostly. She still eats some hay but not much so we are syringe feeding her now. It's a good thing that Bryce is eating by himself so we can leave him in the house. We decided not to bring him coz we wanted Whitney to relax better in the car. He was annoying her this past few days wanting her to follow him all the time or be in the box that she was staying. Fingers crossed there is something we can do for Whitney, coz at the moment she is 50/50 coz we don't know if the pain meds are working.

So we're back from C&R. Simon can't really find anything wrong with Whitney. He checked all her spine, legs, hips and he said there is nothing much to concern about it. He was bending all Whitney's limbs and hips and checked all the movements of her spine and he said it's normal and has good movements. He was thinking might be some issues with bladder, but he expressed some pee from Whitney and apart from sediments in the pee, he said it's pretty normal and no blood anyway. So he booked her to get x-ray and ultrasound on Monday, since we will take Bryce on Monday anyway. He said to bring them both in around lunch time so they can do everything and in case they needed more procedure, at least they are both already in there and we can go home earlier as well.

We are to continue with the pain meds for Whitney for the time being. It's just frustrating that even Simon can't see anything wrong on the outside physically. He said it may be neurological but even diagnosing that is quite tricky too. Good thing she's insured and we can claim the cost of this. The insurance has paid for her spay as well so at least that was good.

I don't think Whitney will last until Monday for the x-ray and scan. 😭 We're taking her to see Ellie Whitehead tomorrow and see what she can do and if she can get the x-ray and scan there. Hubby just phoned Derwent Valley Vets and we'll see Ellie in the morning. If she can't see anything else then tomorrow will be Whitne's last day. 😭💔 She isn't moving much today and just in her box all the time. She was wet as well coz she just stayed where she was the whole night. She only nibbled some hay as well and didn't go out to eat. She weighed 1280g this morning.

I'm so sorry,I only looked at your thread(I don't look so much on the pictures thread as much as I used to)cos of what you said on your birthday thread 😔, I really hope Ellie can get poor Whitney sorted.Thinking of you, your husband and of course Whitney xx

We've just seen Ellie. She said Whitney's bladder wall is thickened. If Simon didn't feel it on Tuesday, it just means that it's getting bad now that's why she felt it. So she gave us antibiotics and emeprid for her, and we continue her pain meds along with it. And on Monday we are still taking her for a scan and x-ray at C&R to rule other stuff. Ellie said just share all her details to her if we want. Fingers crossed Whitney feels a bit better tomorrow.
