Oh Jess, not again! ☹️🙈

Sorry I missed this thread too, hope u both got on ok? I know my little Ellie had an ultrasound & it took about 5-10mins, I even got to hold her for it, a quick belly shave & ready to roll!
... Bit different in covid times I know!

Hope u can sort your beautiful little floofer jess out. Xx

Thanks so much everyone! Means a lot!
Was going to update on the train but knew I’d be a bit tearful so thought I’d wait til home!

Kim said her age has caught her up a little since she last saw her bless her, still only 20g less than when she had the eye out in October though! Good news and bad news really.
Kim couldn’t feel any large ovarian cysts, her bladder seems fine and couldn’t feel any stones etc.
But her kidneys were painful, particularly the left one. She’s sadly been diagnosed with arthritis in her spine (I had a feeling arthritis was getting a little worse just watching her next to the youngsters) so she said it could have been the pain from that as well making it seem worse as she didn’t like her feeling them (well left in particular) at all.
She thinks she’s got kidney disease/issues going on and at the moment has an infection/inflammation that’s causing the blood etc. (Possible stones but doesn’t think so). She said it ties in with her having the same problem in January and the antibiotics and metacam helping but now us having issues again. Obviously neither of us are keen to have anaesthetics and do too much because of her age.
She’s now on metacam because of the spine and it helping with the kidney inflammation or infection etc and she’s got a course of sulfatrim in case it is an infection. We’ll see how she goes over the next couple of weeks.

Unfortunately the term palliative’s been used ☹️☹️☹️(I kind of knew in the pit of my stomach it may be). We’re hoping the sulfatrim will help with the blood and possible infection and the metacam will help to keep her as comfortable as possible. All I can do is hope she stays as happy and content as possible and think about nasty stuff in the future.
Gutted if I’m honest and already had a few tears outside the vets (sorry again @Elthysia!) and a sob when home!
I didn’t expect kidneys tbh ☹️

But she’s back with her Luigi now, Aliona was a very good girl in the carrier (for her!) and they’ve all just enjoyed a bit of melon. She’s now catching up with all the sleep she’s missed! My special little girl 😢:luv:xx

Big hugs! Sorry I couldn’t give you any real ones (Covid and all that) earlier x

She seems so happy so the metacam will certainly help. Lots of love and hugs

Haha thank you, a bit odd hanging around on a street corner waiting for piggies too! But a massive thank you anyway!
Aah I’m glad you think so, she’s such a sweet little girl hopefully she’ll stay that way for a while (with the help of good old metacam!) x

Huge hugs @alpacasqueak. Not what you wanted to hear, but at least you now know what you’re facing and can keep your beautiful girl comfy and happy for as long as possible. Xx

Awww..I'm so sorry to hear this news @alpacasqueak 😞 Please give Jess a hug from me and big hugs to you too. It's really difficult to hear bad news especially when you can't do anything else.

It was the same for us with Deedee, one of my first two piggies. She had bladder stones, UTI, and then eventually kidney stones. She ended up having one of her kidneys completely shut off (or basically a dead kidney) according to Simon. She also had enlarged heart and fluids in her heart and we had her on loads of medication for almost a year with all her problems and she even became resistant in most guinea pig safe antibiotics. Simon told us that what we can do is just make sure she's still happy and that she would let us know when it's time. She eventually passed away in the middle of the night (most probably heart attack). It's still heartbreaking everytime I remember it.

Thank you, yes was definitely hoping for something simple as she’s been through so much at her age but I’m glad I know now and can prepare myself a bit too. She’s such a lovely girl, hopefully we’ve got some more happy time with each other yet. As long as she’s happy. Really can’t imagine life without my little nutter xx

Thanks @Piggies&buns x
And to you and gorgeous Gremlin @daveclark79 x

Thanks a lot @anyar.dris, yes not what I wanted to hear! x
Poor little Deedee, sounds like she had a tough time with all that going on ☹️poor piggy, I’m so sorry what a tough time that must have been. Hopefully Jess will decide for me but I don’t want to think of that right now, Pedro was amazing with all he fought and I know my Jess is a massive fighter like him! Just a sleepy one atm bless her! Thanks though x

Huge hugs I’m sorry it wasn’t better news :( but at least you can keep her comfortable with the metacam and make lots of special today’s xx
Thanks Claire, she’s going to be even more spoilt rotten (don’t tell the other two!) and hopefully she’s happy for a good while yet bless her xx
