Merab's Herd

Priscilla is very quiet today.
Refuses her syringe feed and resisted the meds this morning.
It’s the day after and the anaesthetic will have worn off so she probably feels very sorry for herself.

I’ll see how she goes on over the weekend. Hopefully she’ll brighten up

She really loves the huge tunnels you made.

How’s Ginny today ?

Aww bless her. Probably like how Ginny was with me yesterday. I hope tomorrow is a brighter day for her. I’m glad she has a safe space in her big tunnels.

Ginny was brighter this morning. Ate some grass I got her. She’s tolerating her syringe food ish.
This afternoon I’m guessing her pain meds had worn off a bit and she was looking fed up.
Her breathing is very crackly which worries me. The vet just rang me and he said he’d expect it, said it was a very long surgery for a guinea pig and he hopes it will gradually improve.

Look who finally decided to emerge from her tunnel to have breakfast with the herd.
She’s also put on weight since yesterday so I’m hoping we’re over the worst.
Should hear from the vet tomorrow or Tuesday with the results of the blood tests and Birch Heath’s assessment of the abdominal shadow on her x-ray.

A bit overdue because of Priscilla but managed to get the others weighed and checked.

Micah’s weight is steady, he’s fine and had been on the receiving end of some pee spraying which he kindly shared with me.

Naomi, who could eat a 5kg box of hay all by herself is now a little over 1kg.
I’d worry if they ate lots of carrots and apples but those are rare treats.
Over 80% of her diet is hay and they get about 2 tablespoons of pellets scattered between the 4 of them.
She eats hay like it’s going out of fashion.

Ruth is a lovely chunky potato who is now heading for 1200g.
She’s so lovely, friendly and has a very loud wheek when she hears a door, a bag, someone moving. If we gave in every time she’d probably be 2kg by now.

25kg of hay being delivered tomorrow!

Hmmm - story of my life ! 🤣🤣. A lovely chunky potato, who loves to eat! I’ll bet your Ruth would become very quickly addicted to coffee also 🤣

Tell me about it. The pigs have more stuff than me.

Luckily your hay monsters will soon eat through your supplies. Although not so lucky as then you’ll have to buy more!
Yes - I’ve increased the number of boxes and the frequency of delivery.
They’re going to cost me a fortune in hay!

Goodness - I thought I was bad at one box every three weeks ( thinking of changing to once a fortnight)! You’d be better buying a little allotment and growing your own! 🤣
I have the opposite of green fingers.
Growing my own isn’t really an option.

Maybe not best friends yet, but Priscilla is no longer running away from Naomi

Priscilla’s blood tests are mostly normal.
Some minor signs of what could be ( or have been ) an underlying infection.
If other signs had been present this could have indicated cancer but with no other indications the lab and the vet think cancer is highly unlikely.
She’s going to get some Enrobactin for a few days just in case there’s still some infection but Priscilla is much brighter, eating better and beginning to interact with the herd again.

Great relief here.

Oh this is great news. I pleased she out and about more and eating her hay.

Ahh that’s great news! And she is sporting her lovely cream skirt 🥰

Dear Aunty @Betsy , please would you speak to The One and Only Thea for me.
As you know I haven’t been very well but after the vet did something to my mouth I feel better.
I worried my slave at the weekend by not coming out, losing weight and hardly eating.
I didn’t even nip her when she tried to force me to eat the yummy CC with banana mashed in.
Now I feel so much better, I come out, I’m nice to Naomi and I’m eating lots of hay.
So what does my slave do ?
She forces yucky medicine into me !
This morning I came out and stood at the bars and wheeked for my hay and pellets, but instead my slave tried to stick a medicine syringe in my mouth.
Even though I wriggled and protested she pinned me down and brutally forced the yucky stuff into my mouth.
I am trying to be so good and get better that I don’t think this kind of treatment is good enough.
Love and poop 💩 from Priscilla
