Georgie - Chest Infection and Possible Heart Condition

@alpacasqueak and @Bill & Ted thanks for asking after Georgie. He is doing ok and hasn't lost any more weight. Happily wheeks for his meals and we are giving him extra portions of his favorite foods (he loves oats). However, he is much slower than he used to be and we know that the meds are keeping him comfortable but have prepared ourselves for the inevitable. He is getting lots of love from us and his wife pigs and seems happy. Hopefully this will continue for many weeks/months. xx

Hope you all have many, many happy times left with your beautiful boy. Glad he is feeling better x

So glad he’s comfortable and enjoying scoffing his oats  Hope you’ve all got lots more happy days with each other. Lots of hugs from me and the gang to you all xx

We are back at the vets this afternoon. Georgie is eating well and is generally a happy piggy but seems to be retaining fluid in his body again. I'm hoping he just needs his meds adjusting. We go on holiday soon and i really want to make sure that he is comfortable and as well as he can be before we go away. It really is worrying me as we won't be in the UK and Georgie's health really is up and down at the moment. I have every faith in Paul who is looking after them while we are on holiday and i know that he will make the right decisions for Georgie if his health deteriorates but i would rather not have to leave him in the that difficult position.

Glad Georgie is eating well and enjoying life, hopefully the vet can adjust his medicines a bit to get rid of the extra fluid. Always best to make sure things are as good as they can be before you go away, but it must be a worry all the same. Hugs and piggy kisses, hope all goes well at the vet and that you have a lovely holiday! X

Good luck at the vets. It’s such a worry when we go away. I’m sure all will be fine. ❤️

Just back from the vet. Georgie is retaining fluid again in his stomach which means that his current meds are not helping his heart enough. He is at the highest dose of Frusol and Vetmedin that can be given to a guinea pig. He now has a third medication Fortekor 0.3ml daily. Unfortunately, his heart is failing but we will make all his remaining days as happy as we can.

My old fuzzypig Miss Mollie had heart trouble and she also had Fortekor added to her meds. She had several further good months with us after starting the Fortekor. I hope that Georgie still has many happy days ahead of him with his wives and his human slaves attending to him. Big hugs, Yvonne, it’s not what you wanted to hear, but at least there are treatments to help keep him comfy xx

I’m so pleased there is another medication to try. I hope it helps Georgie and he has lots more happy months ahead. ❤️

I hope the new medicine does help Georgie and he can enjoy a good few months with you still.
Hope you can relax and enjoy your holiday.

Oh poor Georgie, hoping this new drug will make all the difference 🤞 Have a lovely holiday, Georgie is in good hands x

Very sadly Georgie crossed the rainbow bridge earlier today. We are currently on holiday in Greece but our lovely friends Paul and Keith have been caring for all our piggies at their home. They told me that Georgie happily ate his breakfast this morning and had his meds but when they went to check on him mid-morning he had passed away. It was very quick as he was in the hay pile with his mouth still full of food and Mavis was lying next to him.

We are very upset that we have lost our handsome boy but glad that his passing was peaceful. We knew he didn't have long left with us and have filled his last few weeks with a lifetime of love and all his favourite treats. He will be greatly missed. 😢💔

Oh I’m so sorry for your loss. Sleep tight Georgie.
Thank you. It's particularly hard with us not being there with. Although, he was getting the best of care from Paul and Keith. 😢

Yes I can imagine. But to go in his hay pile with food in his mouth is the best way for a piggy to go. He’s had the best care imaginable with you. Sending love to you, be kind to yourself x
