Georgie - Chest Infection and Possible Heart Condition

Georgie seems a little better this morning, his poops are squishy but no longer diarrhea. We got up at 1.30 and 3.30 and both times he was chewing a little hay so I didn't try and give him any more critical care. I'm going to give him his Metacam this morning and hope that doesn't make things worse again.

My main worry is that his breathing doesn't seem to be getting any easier and he is still a bit swollen. We have a review with the vet on Thursday and I'm hoping for some improvement before then.🙁

Glad Georgie’s tummy has calmed down a bit, hope the metacam doesn’t upset him. Really hope his meds kick in and you see an improvement with his breathing soon.
Hope Peggy’s meds kick in quickly too and she’s feeling better in no time.
Thinking of you all today ❤️ xx

@YvonneBlue could you perhaps get a video of Georgie’s breathing that you could send to the vets? When I had my old fuzzy Molly, and she had heart issues, I used to get video of her breathing so the vets could decide if they needed to see her straight away. It may be worth a try?
Poor Georgie. He is so lucky to have you devoted to him, Yvonne. I know how much these middle of the night checks take out of us slaves x

Georgie seems to know he has an upset tummy and is following Mavis around and eating her fresh poops. Mavis is quite upset about this as he keeps pushing her out of her favourite beds to get at the poops. His breathing is no worse but not improved either.

@VickiA thanks for your advice and support. Unfortunately our vets don't do video consultations, so if I'm worried I have to call them and make an appointment to take him in. Currently he seems comfortable and has been eating some hay. I work in the piggy room so I can keep an eye on him all day.

My Jess kept doing that to Luigi when she was on the Zithromax after her eye surgery, he wasn’t too impressed either! 🙈 But sounds like Georgie knows what he needs for his tummy like Vicki says!
Hope he keeps munching that hay too! :)

Poor Georgie, but sounds like he knows what he needs with the poop eating. I would say the doxycycline is to blame for the gut disturbances rather than the metacam. I'm sorry his breathing hasnt eased despite all the meds, paws crossed the vet can find some answers for you x

Sadly Georgie isn't showing any signs of improving. Even with syringe feeding he is still losing weight and is eating very little for himself. He is now fighting the syringe feeding which is making it very stressful for both of us. He will eat a little coriander so I am feeding him little bits between syringe fulls of critical care. I noticed last night that his feet are cold, which I think is also a sign of heart problems.

It is sad to see him so miserable. We have a vet appointment at 10am so will wait and see what their thoughts are. As long as he still has fight left in him we will do everything we can. I'm hoping that he will start to feel better once he finishes the antibiotics but that is still a week away.

Just caught up with this thread. I'm so sorry to hear Georgie is unwell. You are doing a marvelous job, fingers crossed for poor Georgie 🤞💕

Hang in there, I’m sure he will pick up eating once those AB’s have finished, sending you big hugs, you are doing an amazing job, syringe feeding is not easy at the best of times x

Just back from the vets. The good news is that the chest infection seems to have cleared up so we can stop the antibiotics. The not so good news is that his little heart is struggling, so we now have Vetmedin (0.4mls twice daily) along with the Frusol. The vet suggested we give this a few days to work and see if he picks up. If there is no improvement there is an alternative drug that they can try. However, the vet did say we need to consider his quality of life if the meds. don't help. He is still interested in life at the moment and actively comes to look for his veggies but isn't eating enough by himself to maintain his weight. So its a bit of wait and see at the moment. Fingers crossed for our little fella.

Glad you can stop his antibiotics :) Really hope this new medication helps too, come on Georgie! ❤️
Thinking of you all :hug:xx

A little update on Georgie. He is much brighter now that we have stopped the ABs and has started to eat few nuggets again as well as his veggies and a little hay. We are still support feeding him but have cut this down to morning and evening. He hasn't gained any weight but neither has he lost any more. I am offering him extra nuggets and oats to try and maintain his weight without continuing the syringe feeding, as he absolutely hates it. His heart meds seem to have helped and he even came and wheeked for his breakfast yesterday although he is still not moving around as much as he used to. We have a call with the vet on Thursday to review how he is doing.

That’s positive news about Georgie, hope he continues to improve x

I love the sound of a wheak, especially from a piggy who has been so poorly. Hang in there Yvonne, it sounds like Georgie is doing really well.
