Flesh Eating infection? Would love comfort and advice.

Sorry to hear you’ve had family problems!

I’m confused as to why she’s on Semintra, as it’s a medication for hypertension (high blood pressure) in cats! It does also reduce protein in the urine. Is that the reason for giving it?
Yeah we did a urine test and it shows she has very high protein? So I think that’s why but I honestly I don’t know much 😭 I’m just going off what Adele says!

So how is the infection? Is that much better now?
Yes I’d say so! Her “bits” look almost normal just a little raised than when I compare to my other pig but I don’t know if that’s just because she’s had a lot of hair loss that it’s making it look worse? My only problem is her weeing all the time which is making her wet constantly. She seems a lot better otherwise, there’s no blood or redness from what I’ve seen? It’s so hard to tell but I’ve done a couple of urine tests and they’ve all not shown any blood which is brill. My only issue is a high protein which Adele says is probs due to poorly kidneys.
I’ve uploaded her most recent urine test in case anyone needs to see I just got these off Amazon and they seem to all be about the same colour scale but if not I’ll upload the bottle too, thanks X

Is there a possibility that the infection may have slackened the bladder muscles, hence the dribbling? You have done such an amazing job with her, I hope you can get to the root of her incontinence 🤞

This is exactly what I’m thinking? It was such a crazy infection I wonder if she may not be able to FULLY recover from it? I’ve no idea if that’s possible, her poo is definitely improved it used to be very wet and sloppy but she’s starting to produce normal looking ones which is good? I hope the wee will heal with time too X

Can you discuss with your vet? You have, if it is, is may well come back once she is more mobile and gains muscle mass?

Teeny update because why not!
I’m booked in with my exotic vet but it’s in a few weeks! Due to family issues yenyen was put on the back burner a little unfortunately but I’m trying to spend as much time as I can now helping her out.

My issues really are:

Urine scald, when she wees it’s basically just dripping out. Her bits are always soaked, I’m giving her a dry off or bum bath when I can but she has lost a lot of fur and the skin is very dry around her butt.

Weight:
She’s not gaining weight, she has an appetite and is eating a lot but she used to be such a fat little pig and now she’s so small. I’ve started taking her out alone in the weekend for extra snacks she likes so we’ll see if that makes an improvement but if there is any advice for weight gain let me know!

Over drinking:
Shes drinking a lot? No idea why! I change water every day and now I’ve had two instances where the whole bottle is gone which has NEVER happened although it is a new bottle and I can tell some is dripping on to there bedding so perhaps I need a different one. However, I do still notice she’s at her bottle a lot more drinking away so either way she’s defo drinking a lot more.

I will keep updated with what happens at the appointment but yeah it’s still tough at the mo but a lot better than she was. No blood in urine as I’ve tested it the only thing that’s showing strange is she has high PH in the wee .

Many thanks!

Hello everyone I’m back with what will probably be my final update on this case!

My exotic vet did a check up and said yenyen is quite healthy! Although she’s lost weight, she’s maintaining better now. I said she does seem to move around a lot more than she used to, she’s always been very lazy so she’s more active and definitely happier now.

Her main issue is kidney failure, which obv all we can do is manage now! Shes on medication every morning for it so I’m hoping that’s whats been helping her.

I also add that because of her kidney failure she does drink and wee a lot! Because of this it damages her skin around her bottom, so I keep on top of this as best I can by drying her with a towel twice a day and when she’s super smelly, a bum bath in warm water.

So to sum up, her horrible infection came from her kidney failure as it was making her pee a lot and then because she would sit in her poo and pee it gave her an awful infection!

So for those whoever find they have this issue, it’s probably a kidney issue that can be managed!

I really hope this thread can help future piggy owners now!

Thank you so much for everyone’s love and support on this thread, a lot of moments I found it all very difficult and overwhelming esp when we didn’t know what was wrong with her. I feel so grateful to have a happy pig! Give your piggies an extra cuddle from me today :D

Oh it’s lovely to hear how you have been getting on with your beautiful little girl. You have done so amazingly well with her

That's lovely to hear, thanks for the update. You've been amazing with your piggy. I hope she continues to do well with her kidney treatment.

So glad to hear that yenyen is happier now. What a lot you’ve both been through but you’ve done a great job 😀
