Mabel did OK for most of the day, however wasn't able to swallow after a short time. She fought all day but just after 4 she decided she had had enough. We were driving down to say goodbye when we were called back and told she really needed to be let go before we arrived, so I agreed to let her pass peacefully. She spent the day in a little papoose with one of the nurses, no doubt enjoying watching all that was going on. They said how cooperative and well behaved she had been all day, which sounds exactly like her.
I am gutted she didn't get to pass at home but she was in the best place to give her a fighting chance but unfortunately it wasn't to be
So sorry that Mabel didn’t make it, despite her and you fighting so hard.
A beautiful piggy who has a wonderful life with you.
Be gentle with yourself as you grieve.
Hugs
So sorry for your loss. Mabel was a little fighter and you gave her 2 years of loving care and attention, all a piggy could wish.
Popcorn free sweet Mabel
So sorry you’ve lost Mabel, I think she tried her very hardest to stay with you and watch telly on your lap. Take heart she had a wonderful life with you and all the piggies
Thankyou all, its never nice to lose any of them but Mabel in particular has been very difficult. I also seem to have, without realising until now, lost all my medical piggies apart from Silver.. just squeaky wees. I really hope I can get a break from losses now for a little while
We have dropped her off at the crematorium, she will be back home on Tuesday
In better news, Amber has gained 100g in 5 days since clearing her urinary blockage, and she is her usual bouncy self.
We collected Mabel today, she has been placed by the TV, Mum promised her she could watch some when she got home from the vet so, as Mums favourite.. now she lives in the living room with us, forever watching TV with her favourite people.
I had a bit of a cry on the way back with her, I placed her bag by my legs and it tipped to the side, leaning against me like she used to.. I know it just wasn't well balanced but I'm still sleep deprived and feeling sentimental
Having spoken to the staff at the vet when I went in earlier to settle what I owed for her stay on Friday (turns out they didn't charge me which was nice ) it sounded like it was the right decision for her, which helps. She was comfortable and warm, and passed incredibly quickly, seems she was ready to go.
Poppet went to see the vet today to have her wound rechecked, it's healed far better than any of us really expected, there's just a tiny scar left but nothing can be felt in the skin or muscle layers, and there's no palpable abscesses so.. fingers crossed that's that bit of weirdery over with. At the very least if it happens again we know what to do with it, even if we don't necessarily know why it happened.
