Thinking of you and Delilah over the past few days - hope you have been quiet just because you're enjoying time with her rather than anything else. Sending love to you and the piggies.

Thankyou, I've been trying not to get my hopes up to be honest! But as of Tuesday evening, the smell has gone.. only other piggy I've had continue living after that smell was Thistle who went on for another year, I'm not expecting that long with Delilah and we're still probably looking at her last few weeks but that's at least something.

I did start her on panacur when it started due to her unsteadiness on her feet, I wonder if the smell was due to her kidneys struggling due to her E.cuniculi and the panacur helped 🤷‍♀️

We're currently taking it a day at a time and she will be tagging along Monday to a vet appointment if she is still here at that point as her back end collapses occasionally, only for a step or two but she drags her back legs before righting herself again. I want to see whether that is due to muscle weakness or if the tumour is pressing on her spine. I'm not convinced it's due to her arthritis as it's usually while she's running, she hasn't run for ages but since upping her gabapentin she seems much happier and more comfortable so I am almost certain it isn't pain related.

Our lovely old Tilly decided its her turn to be a bit of a diva tonight, throwing in veggies for everyone and she totally ignores them opting to stay snoozing in the hay. I figured I'd check she was OK before Lily ate everything, turned out she wanted to be hand fed and cuddled 😅

Shes already blind but I have a feeling her hearing and/or sense of smell is also going and she just didn't notice the food going in, once I'd hand fed her a bit and put her back with food directly under her nose she dived right in for herself.

I cant believe she will be 8 years and 4 months old soon.. shes looking a little rough around the edges but she looks better than I feel at least 😂

Back to the vet with Delilah, unfortunately her mass has pretty much doubled in size and it's likely we are nearing the end, she is however still bimbling around quite happily and, as we do not believe she is suffering, we are continuing to do as we are doing until she let's us know otherwise.

Hope she has more happy times ahead

So yesterday's appointment was meant to be for Biscuit, as were many appointments previously over the last 2 months, taken by other piggies with something more urgent. Finally though, after rebooking while I was paying yesterday and getting a cancellation for today, she will be going to be checked for ovarian cysts 🙃 such a beautiful girl who so rarely sits still for pictures 😅

Biscuit is booked in to be spayed on Friday, shes being done the old way by my regular vet under gas to ensure if she does have any issues with her heart like her sister did before she suddenly died, she can be brought around quickly rather than having to wait a few hours and hope she's OK.
He is going to discuss the option of implants with the exotics specialist for cysts, while not really an option for Biscuit as she's still young and spaying being the best option for her, it could be useful for Tilly given hers are most certainly hormonal cysts. At her age surgery is absolutely off the table unless she goes into crisis where euthanasia is the only alternative, but removing the periods of high hormones would greatly improve her quality of life when they happen.

Delilahs smell has come back and her back legs are a little weaker.. 😔 she may be going in Friday to be put to sleep, I've not decided yet, I may discuss with my vet when I go in to drop off Biscuit (he doesn't work Wed-Thurs anymore) I dont want her to begin suffering over the weekend and have to go somewhere she doesn't know out of hours. But she is continuing to act normal, I hate this bit, trying to do what is best for them not knowing how it's going to go or if they're going to perk up again.

Her little family was checking on her all evening and being close to her, and are still giving her the occasional sniff. She hasn't isolated herself from them yet which I guess is good and her poops are looking better than they had been.

Sending big hugs. It's so difficult deciding what is best when a piggy is close to the end of its life but I always believe that a week too early is better than a day too late. Delilah has had very many happy piggy days and I'm sure you will know when it is the right time to say goodbye.❤️

Thankyou, shes still doing well at the moment, getting her jaws warmed up for her syringe feed with a bowl of grass. She has been a lot more active as the day has gone on, I'd imagine with the muscle wastage she is just getting tired more than anything. I'm going to up the heating a degree or two over night just in case she got a little cold and stiff.

Dinner time for the pigs now, Bramble has almost polished off her porridge so was rather excited to see a lump of beetroot appear at her door..although she snatched it and turned her backside to me before I could get any pictures of her.

Treacle, Cinnamon and the herd stuck around for a little bit though!
