Eriathwens piggies

Todays been one of those days! Mid clean out I discover Ivy has somehow managed to absolutely mangle one of her toe nails! She's not limping or anything, but I cant believe I'd missed it! Luckily the vet called shortly after, and while I wasn't able to get her an appointment, I can call tomorrow to see if there's any cancellations with my usual vet, if not, one of the other decent vets is in so she can take a look.

The vets called however as the nurse who was going to be monitoring Biscuit during and after her spay tomorrow had called in sick, so her surgery has been moved to the 12th.

Delilah is still toddling along enjoying her food, she got some watermelon last night and made an absolute mess 😅
I did take a video but YouTube is deciding I can't upload anything at the moment, so I'm having to stick to pictures.

Oh my word - these piggies are certainly giving you more than your fair share concerns. I wonder how on earth she’s done that. Good luck at the vets.

So as I'd suspected, Ivy's toe can't be saved, she's booked in for the 12th to have it amputated seeing as I'm already in with Biscuit for her spay, for now I need to clean it, apply flamazine and give her metacam. It's not life threatening but there was some pus under the scab and there is some bone exposed where the end has twisted off. It sounds a simple enough surgery so hopefully she will do well.

That’s not what you needed. But what a beautiful face

Shes a lovely little girl bless her, sat good as gold for the vet too. Could've done without another surgery but I suppose silver lining is one less nail to trim 😅
Got to look for the positives at this point, it's getting ridiculous.

I just can’t imagine what she was doing to get an injury like that. Baffling.

Me neither! The only thing I can think is one of the other piggies bit her toe through the bars or something, because surely one of the babies didn't do it. There's nothing she could have got it stuck in that I can see, I've always been so careful. Especially since it was the area the babies went into, I was up for ages making it safe when Popcorn found a way to escape into the other piggies bit.
Unless she poked it with some hay and then chewed it herself? Vet said it was definitely traumatic though, which yeah, no way it's not. It's bothering me because of course I don't want it happening again or to any of the others 🤔 It's weird.

Poor Ivy, what have you been doing. Your human really didn't need a another poorly piggy. 😢

Luckily it's cleaned up quite nicely, the flamazine has sorted the pus and it's calloused over the exposed bone again. I was quite worried about waiting until the 12th, "within 2 weeks" was what my vet had said to them when booking her in so it was cutting it fine, but she should be OK, I just don't want to lose any healthy tissue so he can close it properly but I suppose if the whole toe is coming off he has plenty to work with 😕

Miss Tilly was into the vet today for irritated ears, she has gunky wax built up all the way in the canal likely right up to the eardrum. So I've got to flush and massage her ear once a week for 4 weeks to see if we can break down the build up, once we've done that he's going to mix me up some drops if needs be, at the moment any drops will likely just sit in the outer ear and not do anything due to how thick the wax is, it's like putty

EWWWWWWW! :vom: :vom:

EWWWWWWW! :vom: :vom:

Yeah that was about my reaction when he managed to pick a lump of it out 🤢 poor old girl. I suppose with her head so close to the floor and tilted, the ears collect more dust etc than normal. I've decided to leave the flushing for tomorrow, it's already been a long day and ive already been peed on, and bitten by the little hamster getting her panomec on her..I dont much fancy getting covered in earwax as well.

I've also booked Delilah a quality of life check up, and Pearl an appointment to have her eyes rechecked, she keeps squinting.
So next Tuesday is going to be busy, dropping 2 off for surgeries and 2 going for appointments when I go to pick them up in the afternoon 🤦‍♀️

Just done Delilahs syringe feeding for the night and she's in a good mood 😅 she decided while I was refilling the syringe to jump out the carrier... I figured I'd let her because she probably couldn't get far with her wobble. Wrong! She shot across the landing to my mums bedroom door, but didn't quite have the strength to push it open. Obviously she wanted to say goodnight to her granny 😂 once she had finished demanding a fuss on the bed she turned around and made it clear I was to carry her back to her box 🤦‍♀️ she finished up her syringe food, some oxbow hay and dill and is now back with the others helping to eat their natures own sweet green hay!

Shes such a character 😍

Madam needed a bath today, much to her annoyance, but she can't reach underneath herself to clean so.. tough 😅
She at least seems a lot more comfortable now anyway, only did her underside so she wouldn't get too cold, shes not a fan of the hair dryer bless her so I tried to have her drying as quickly as possible. Once put back into her cage she turned around and did her best to shout at me for the inconvenience and loud noise 😂
