Eriathwens piggies

So, tomorrow Panda is going back for a recheck of her teeth, there's "something" coming from the empty socket, either tooth regrowth or pus, it's white but if its tooth it looks cracked and broken which considering it was shattered isn't too surprising but I just want to make sure it's OK, as there's a bit of a smell again and possibly swelling in the jaw.

Poor Mabel is also going in as she's been losing the hair on her belly, over the course of the last week. She's got more weird lumps in her ribs, it's possible that like Thistle she has a thymus issue, Thistles was calcified but from what I can find online, thymus tumours etc can cause edema in the arms, neck, chest and face..all of which Mabel has, so cancer would make sense at this point as Thistles was also cancer, with the tumour in her left lung.

Luckily in spite of all that, Mabel is well in herself and her guts haven't reacted badly to being put back onto metacam.

Oh poor girlies. :( Fingers and paws crossed here for them both.

So little Panda had her incisors burred again, the missing one is regrowing but it's still shattered, it's also thickened and misshapen. The right hand one which was wobbly isn't growing, it may just fall out but its possible the root is damaged, either way this seems like it'll now be a lifelong issue for her. She can still eat so I guess it could be worse.

Mabel likely does have cancer, lymphoma or some sort of hormone producing tumour somewhere.. possibly in the endocrine system, so the thymus I'd imagine, like I suspected which just sucks. But it is what it is and we'll just keep her nice and comfortable until we can't.

Sorry it wasn't better news for Panda and Mabel. Hopefully Panda will continue to eat ok with her poorly teeth and things will settle down over time. I hope that Mabel has many more happy days with you.xx

Thankyou, I'm trying to not dwell on it because at this point, it is what it is..I cant do anything to change it.

Miss Ivy has been enjoying cuddles, shes such a lovely little sweetheart which has been helping. She even demands kisses 😅 I'm still waiting for the aggressive, bitey personality to emerge 🤣 absolute nonsense.

Never ends 🤦‍♀️ Poor Fern is incredibly congested, luckily I'm always given a little extra of everything meds wise, so she's been started on Baytril ASAP.. shes already perked up a little bit and started to eat, but she's very snotty and her eyes are running. Forrest and Silver have an appointment tomorrow so she will tag along to make sure it isn't her heart, which I don't think it will be as she's so well in herself otherwise but better safe than sorry.

Today has been a difficult one, Fern went to the vet and was put on oxygen and fluids as it sounded like she had very little working lung tissue, she did not improve particularly well, if anything got worse over time especially when taken off oxygen. Her baytril dose was upped, however we were given 3 options, bring her home to keep her comfortable and warm and hope, euthenasia, or refer her to a different practice over night to stay on oxygen.. now, I dont have much good to say for the out of hours practices here so I decided against that, knowing that if needed I could take her in as an emergency out of hours.

Originally I opted for euthenasia, choosing to go back down to say goodbye beforehand. I did ask the vet if bringing her home would be cruel, to which she said if she deteriorates, yes. But I guess if it wasn't a fair option, I wouldnt have been given it, I think the hope was maybe the stress of being at the vet may have contributed.

I arrived to say goodbye and she was brought in in her carrier and we looked at eachother, she clearly wanted to come home, she wasnt ready yet. She's perky and running around, she just can't breathe very well.

I'm syringe feeding her, wiping the mucous from her nostrils and nebulising her with f10sc. She is currently running around with her friends.. shes not better but she's certainly no worse than when I dropped her off earlier.

I dont know whether this decision was the correct one, hindsight is a wonderful thing and by morning I may regret it, but I couldn't justify putting her to sleep while still so otherwise well in herself.

Thankyou 😔 she's been bleeding from one nostril but it stopped after being nebulised. Shes racing around like an absolute loon while in the cage, especially when I go in with food. She wants to eat but can't eat and breathe at the same time. Syringe feeding her is difficult, trying to feed her while she isnt trying to suck in air is hard, but the alternative is aspirating her and making things even worse.

I will probably have her put back on oxygen first thing tomorrow so she can get a proper amount of food into her. But by then she will have had 2 more doses of her increased amount of baytril and I'm hoping that plus the f10 will have started to help 😔

You are doing all you can. Fingers crossed she turns the corner tomorrow and the Baytril helps.

Awww, you know her best. Today wasn’t her day. I hope that she turns a corner for you.

Ferns sneezing has become very productive, so I'm hoping that means her lungs are clearing. She's still gasping but not as much, I've been able to get a good 20ml or so of food into her. She's also been eating grass of her own accord. I need to pick up some more metacam later so I'm going to ask how frequently she can be nebulised, if she can have it more often I think it'd help.
We aren't out of the woods yet but any improvement is good considering yesterday her prognosis was very guarded.

Thankyou! The bleeding has restarted but she has been sneezing lots more today so I'm assuming she has just aggravated the inside of her nasal passages, she is producing lots of thick clumps of mucous but her breathing is much quieter and less strained.
I spoke to someone at the vet a little while ago who had spoken to my vet and he said she can have her nebuliser every 4 hours rather than 6 which should really help as it's about the 5 hour mark she starts to struggle. Her appetite has dipped a little but she is still taking syringe feeds well, at such a high dose of baytril though I'm not surprised her guts are taking a bit of a whack, she's on 0.65ml twice a day. She's getting fibreplex as well but still.
The exotics specialist is in tomorrow so if she hasn't made much more improvement over night I will possibly be grabbing her an appointment just to ensure we're still doing all we can and still going in the right direction.

So, fingers crossed the extra nebulising helps. She hasn't pooped so I'm hoping tomorrow we might see something, but she ate very little yesterday, it probably didn't even add up to 10ml, I have some Emeraid intensive care coming tomorrow as well which I'm hoping will also help give her a boost.

Shes still strong though and got quite the attitude 🤣

The bleeding has finally stopped and I've managed to clean her up as best I can, she sneezed out a massive lump of mucous 🤢 poor thing. I'm going to have her seen tomorrow, she might be able to have some bisolvon maybe, my vet mentioned it Monday, I dont know if they actually gave it to her or not, once I'd decided not to put her to sleep I just wanted to get her back home.

Shes done well overnight, the blood has stayed away, her nose is drying up, however she's becoming a little dehydrated with how much fluid she's lost. She has the vets in an hour.

She finally passed some poo, it's bone dry and pale but it's decent sized at least, she still won't eat but I think she's going to need some motility meds before she will. I do have plenty at home but I'm concerned about adding in more drugs while she's so dehydrated, her kidneys will probably need some more fluid first. She is at least taking a decent amount of syringe feed now.

She's such a good girl, I'm so proud of her.

Just back from the vet, her lungs have massively improved! She's on the right track, she's got mild gut sounds so not in full stasis yet, she's had more fluids and has been put on emeprid. I've to keep doing the nebulising and she has a recheck booked Friday with my regular vet. Very pleased with how she's doing, even with the agitation of the car ride and waiting in the waiting room, her breathing didn't get too much noisier and it seems she doesn't need the bisolvon. I'll take that!
