Eriathwens piggies

Thankyou all, doing medications is difficult the first few times when someone is missing and tonight was no different 😔
Luckily the boys seem to have sensed something was off with me tonight and both settled to have a good gnaw on my arm and hands.. always makes me smile.
They along with Dylan are now crashing around popcorning after getting a handful of oats!

Also.. ive been sat unable to sleep for a while. I'm not going to lie, I've been wondering what difference I'm actually making in the world lately and for sone reason something my vet said when I went in with Dylan suddenly hit me.

He was saying how about 5 years or so ago, the back of Pets at Home would be stacked with cages with 20+ sick guinea pigs, however they stopped buying stock from those bad breeders and now there's only a one or two sick pigs out the back at a time.

Just under 6 years ago I made a massive complaint to the head office of Pets at Home and the RSPCA about the absolutely unacceptable health of Blackberry and Bramble (I found me talking about it at the end of this old thread! Not Having Much Luck, 2 Poorly Piggies Over Christmas )

I had honestly forgotten all about it until just now.. I wonder if maybe I did make a difference after all 🤔

You make a lot of difference to those piggies who come to live with you. Just imagine what would have happened to Silver and Forrest.
It might not make much difference to the world, but it's all the world to them. (If that's an English sentence, doesn't sound quite right, but I hope that you know what I mean.)

Of course it's incredibly hard to take of care sick piggies all the time. But I wish I could be more like you and help more piggies. At the moment I don't have the time or the energy, but maybe someday...

And just to make you smile a bit:
You also make a difference to your vet. Even if he doesn't charge everything, your piggies provide a steady income.

Of course you make a difference. Not only to the piggies whose lives you make more comfortable than they would be but the ones I've no doubt you save. You also make a difference to the members of this forum and their piggies. Your knowledge and experience on all things guinea pig is amazing and has been a help to many when you kindly pass it on. I'm sure you make a difference in the lives of your friends and family too. Remember it's the little things that mean a lot, not that what you do for those animals of yours is little!
Sending you hugs.

Thankyou all 🥺 today's been hard, I won't lie. After losing one every few months for what feels like years, it's getting to me a bit. And it probably won't get much better given how many I have who are nudging towards old age.

Also a friend of mine has a lovely little niece who loves piggies and drawing, he shows her all the pictures everyone posts online of piggies and she always thought Gus was very cute.. anyway, he sent me this just now, shes only 6 but an absolute sweetheart, apparently she drew it because she didn't want me to be sad 🥲

Shes nailed his crazy hair bless her.

That is so lovely of her.

Thanks again guys 🥺 I'm feeling a little better today.

Dylan has just been dropped off for his castration, he's not been here long but the place already seems quiet without him!
I should hear how he is at about 1-2pm, although I probably won't be picking him up until later, as I've an appointment at 4:30 with Panda, so it makes sense to get him then.

Hope everything goes well for Dylan.
you absolutely make a huge difference to all your little piggies, imagine where they would be without you 😊

Well, Troubles home 🤣 first words from the nurse were "Bit of a livewire isn't he!" 🤦‍♀️ little bugger..

His incision looks fantastic, he's already eating and pooping, running around etc.

Panda was joined by Pumpkin for her appointment after trying to poke her eye out, between them they left the room looking like a barnyard 🙃 can't take them anywhere.. I should maybe not put so much hay in the carriers next time!

He certainly is a big character 😅 he's taken to syringe feeds like a natural as well bless him, not that he needs them but I prefer to top them up anyway after surgery.

Pandas appointment went well, no more bladder stones felt, although that doesn't mean there aren't any tiny ones in there but the fact that her weird anatomy is letting her pass them is good, theyre not really causing her any issues or compromising her quality of life so unless they suddenly become huge or painful we can leave her as is for now.

Pumpkin has some isathal for her eye, my vet managed to get a grass seed out, I'd been totally unable to find anything so I'm glad I had her tag along.

Dylan is doing great, still eating, pooping and running around at all hours of the night crashing around.. can't wait for him to move into the piggy room so I can get better sleep 🤣 as much as I enjoy hearing him having the time of his life!

And a cute picture of Silver just because 😅
Ebony was at the vet this morning, the wound on her foot is looking worse and her foot is hot to the touch, my vet is still not convinced it's infected/full on bumblefoot but she's on baytril for 2 weeks. Hopefully it goes away soon.. shes already been through so much!

All fingers and paws crossed for Ebony!
Is she on Metacam as well? Since it works against inflammation too, it makes a lot of difference for Billie's paw and front leg.

Thankyou! She is, luckily. She's on quite the cocktail of meds for various other issues, metacam, paracetamol, gabapentin and cartrophen. So I'm hopeful all that has stopped it becoming too bad.

He also mentioned in dogs, they advise the use of bio oil in callouses to prevent them becoming wounds and getting infected as it breaks down the dead skin and scar tissue, so I guess I'll give that a go, I cant see anything in it that'd be toxic and the purcellin oil makes it absorb into the skin and dry really quickly so she probably will never ingest any.

Sending healing vibes to Ebony, hope that little heals well. Dylan’s is doing amazing, such a neat little incision there, you can hardly tell at all.

So, ever causing trouble 🤣 Forrest got some hay in his good eye and had to be distracted with a tomato while I got it out..you'd never be able to tell

And Ebony has gained 120g since she first became ill, she was at 660g ish when she first went to the vet! Very pleased with that, I'm hoping the antibiotics are helping her feel much better now, her foot isn't terrible but it's probably going to take quite a while to heal.

So it's been almost a week on antibiotics now I think for Ebony, and her foot is certainly different. I'm not sure I'm confident enough to say its getting better, but it's smaller at least. The bio oil really helped her other foot, the area that looked like it may also scab over has gone and that foot now looks normal. I'm pretty sure she's going to need at least an extra week of antibiotics but I'm not a vet, so we'll see how it looks in another week when the course is almost finished.
