Ella has a bottom incisor missing 😞

I think the clumpy poos are normal after an operation, it does show that the gut is slowly waking up from the aesthetics and starting to move and produce poop. Once she gets eating more that escalator will start running smoothly again, so keep up with the feeding and encourage her with herbs and salad and anything she particularly likes
Thank you. She’s just done some more clumpy poo but has eaten them. I’m paranoid she’s not weeing now 😞 She’s managed to maintain her weight since yesterday but is now being an arse with the syringe feeding now the anaesthetic drugs have worn off. We’re going to a barbecue this afternoon, I don’t want to leave her but Chris has said I can’t put my life on hold so I’m trying to get as much feed in to her as I can and will pop back every few hours to feed her x

I’m so stressed as she just isn’t taking the syringe feed 😞 I can’t leave her as she’s barely eaten anything. She was taking it like a dream yesterday. Her Emeraid should be arriving by 10pm tonight so I’m hoping she’ll like that instead x

I’m worried about her not pooing or weeing but would she relax like this if she wasn’t able to poo or wee? She’s just had 5ml of Emeraid. A struggle but at least something. She’s had about 20ml today. I know she needs s lot more but I’m giving her a break as she’s getting stressed out 😞 xx

Aw look at her, try get a bit more in her tonight, we’re you given any tummy motility drugs, if not you could ask for some tomorrow, that might help

Thank you. No, she had an injection of emerprid so I wasn’t given any to bring home. She’s back at the vets on Tuesday but I can phone and see. I’m getting desperate as I don’t know what to do 😞 x

Just seen the vet with Ella. She’s managed to pull the stitch from her operation site which is causing more tenderness in her gum. There’s a possibility she has bone cancer in her jaw and that’s the reason her tooth broke as her gum and root looked a bit dodgy when he removed the tooth and if that’s the case she’ll just get more painful 😞 She’s come home with stronger painkillers, dog metacam and more Bupacare to give twice a day. She’s also got cisapride. Got to keep up with the syringe feeding and encouraging her to eat (she did pick at her veg this morning but didn’t really eat it 😞) Got to take her back on Monday or before as an emergency if she deteriorates 😞

I'm sorry that its not better news but its also not a definite diagnosis, so take each day at a time. I know that you will do whatever is best for Ella because you are a great guinea pig mum. Sending healing vibes for Ella and a big hug for you. xx

I so wish I could say send her to me and I’ll get Simon to have a look. I think a better antibiotic and decent pain relief before coming to conclusions like that. Hang in there for now xx
ealing vibes for Ella and a big hug for you. xx
Thank you. He said we could be referred to a specialist to have tissue from her gum removed to be sent for biopsy but that this would be a big op for an already frail guinea pig 😞 I’m hoping she picks up now she’s on stronger painkillers. She’s had an injection on Bupacare to get her started x

We have fingers and paws crossed here for Ella. Maybe ask for antibiotic too in case there is an infection.

I hope it’s just pain from the operation and with the stronger medication she will be eating soon. Sending healing vibes and a hug to you.

Thank you everyone. I really do hope she improves now she’s on the stronger pain medication. Just a quick question but how much water should I be getting in to her? I’ve been trying to give her 1ml at every feeding session but as you know. She’s a nightmare to syringe and she’s just done a poo that was drier than I’d like. I don’t want her getting dehydrated on top of everything else 😞

Hoping these meds do the trick. It very much depends if she is keen to drink. Have you a bowl of water in her cage that she can use. I have two who drink loads and two that hardly touch a water bottle
1 ml sounds a good amount in one sitting

I’m not sure sorry.

Thank you and me too. I haven’t seen her drink for well over a week but then I guess I’m not watching her 24:7 either. I’m conscious that she’s not getting water from her veggies either as she isn’t eating them. I’ll put a bowl of water in the cage to give her the option, I hadn’t thought of that. Thank you, I’ll keep up with the 1ml per sitting x

yes I would until she can eat some salad type veggies that contain plenty of water in them. It’s very hard judging if they are getting enough water when they are not eating veggies but you are doing a great job Claire x
A bowl gives her another option too

Thank you. I will do. She’s just tried to eat some coriander but couldn’t manage it. It’s breaking my heart seeing her try and eat but giving up 😞 But trying is an improvement x

Absolutely, she is now trying so that’s a good start, she just needs to get her confidence back now. I used to start with some cc and then half way through offer tiny morsels of coriander or a few blades of grass then more cc.
Small steps that lead to bigger ones 🤞

Thank you. I’ll try that with Ella. I’m guessing she’s associating food with pain?

Yes, she will be but once she takes that leap and it doesn’t hurt and she can chew then she’ll start eating again I’m sure

Ella has managed to maintain her weight from yesterday after I managed to get quite a bit of syringe feed in to her. I blended her veg this morning as suggested by my vet so it was more of a slush and she nibbled on some grated carrot and cucumber but nothing else 😞 It’s breaking my heart watching her so desperate to eat but not being able to. I know they’re not meant to have carrot but right now, I’m desperate and will try anything. Today she’s back to fighting the syringe 😞

Will she eat syringe food herself off a plate? Shelly would never accept the syringe and would push it away with her paw. However, when presented with mush on a plate she would eat it. I also gave her porridge oats and grated carrot and grated sweet potato.

No, I’ve tried and she just sniffs at it and walks away 😞 I’ve tried grated carrot and cucumber, she has a nibble but can’t manage it properly 😞 I don’t think it helps that she has a tender hole where she pulled the stitch out. I get her weight up to around 920g but she loses it by the following day 😞
