Eddie doesn't quite seem himself

Oh my. I had somehow missed what was going on and have only just had time to sit down and read your thread properly. What a time you have been having. And the forum has gained another Pirate Piggy. I hope that he continues to make a great recovery once he’s back home and in his own surroundings again.
Yes it sounds like he's recovering very well already. The nurse said he's been eating and passing poos and pootling about which is great :)

I've just had a look at probiotics and it seems ProC can be added to water. Does that mean I can just put it in one of their water bottles rather than having another thing to syringe into him? Would it be ok if Elvis drank some of it too?

Aah it’s great he’s so bright!
You shouldn’t really put anything into the water so it’ll need to be syringed, sorry! Just a sprinkle needs to be added to a few mls of water an hour before or after his antibiotic x

I think some people sprinkle a bit on their food but I like to make sure they’re getting it so I find a bit in some water the best really :) Do you know which antibiotic he’ll be on?

In the description of ProC it says it also contains vit c but it doesn't for fibreflex so would I need seperate vit c if I got that one? Sorry for all the probiotics questions I just want to get the best one for Eddie.
By the way the link for the Daily C tablets says page not found.

I don't know what antibiotic he will be on yet.

Eddie and Elvis are back home! :yahoo:

Eddie's gone straight for a nap but he was quite bright in the car. He looks very odd with his little face is shaved and just a line of stitches there but it's neater then I expected. I'll take pictures to refer to in case it swells at all before we go back on Wednesday for a check up. Nathalie might remove the stitches then but she might not.

In terms of meds I've got antibiotic (Baytril), gut stimulant (Ranitidine tabs crushed up into a solution) and to continue with the loxicom. I've also Vitamin C (got Pro C Professional).

So pleased they are back home with you and you can look after Eddie now. Did the vet say something about his tooth?

The vet herself isn't in today so it was a nurse who handed him over. She said Nathalie will talk to us properly on Wednesday so there can't be anything urgent to say though I would have liked to talk to her sooner.

I also forgot to say before that the nurse wants him to be encouraged to eat for himself so he was due a lunchtime feed but she didn't give him one to see if he'd eat on his own. If he doesn't I'll top him up later. He hasn't eaten yet, he's still sleeping right now.

Glad the op went well.
Such a relief for you.
Hopefully if the tooth can be dealt with there’ll be no further problems.
I’m sure that back in the safely of his own home and with your love and care Eddie will make a full recovery

So pleased that Eddie is doing so well and they are both back home.
Keep munching little Eddie.
Sending hugs for a speedy recovery.xx

So glad they’re back home with you ❤
Aw it is very strange when you first see them after the op, you soon get used to it though and like I said yest, it made Pedro and Jess even more gorgeous to me!
I’m so glad he’s done so well x

Eddie update:

He's still quite sleepy and not as active as normal but when he does get up he seems like himself but it doesn't last long before he goes back to his cosy.

He's eating a little grass by himself but not much (less than before) and has attempted hay but not eaten more than a few strands so that doesn't really count. The nurse said to see if he'll eat by himself before feeding him Emeraid so I've been doing that but still feeding him after a while. I know a few days isn't long at all especially considering he's been through so much for a little piggy but is it normal for him to be more sleepy and less hungry still a few days after his op?

His breathing seems slightly heavier than normal and it's whistling/ squeaking too. You can see him rock ever so slightly as he breathes.

Yesterday I also found 2 small spots of what's most likely blood on the cosy he was sat in but I couldn't see anything that was bleeding and I haven't seen any more since.

I emailed the vets about my concerns and Nathalie said the breathing will be because of the anesthetic so the painkiller and antibiotic he's on should sort that out and as.long as there's no active bleeding from the surgery site (there isn't) to monitor.

I'm trying not to stress about every little thing but it's hard. I couldn't bear anything more to happen to him after all this.

It takes a while for all the anaesthetic and drugs that he was given for the op to work it's way out of the system. When Betsy had her spay she wasn't really "with it" for a good 48 hours. I imagine that Eddie has had a cocktail of drugs so will probably be feeling a bit weird still.

That's reassuring. He's still got a variety of medicines going into him too so that won't help.

Glad he’s doing ok bless him. I definitely found with my two that it wiped them out a lot more than the other ops my babies have had, with it being fiddly and a bit more complicated I’m guessing they were on the anaesthetic longer etc, and so close to their little brains too!
It does put them off food with all the meds and feeling so sleepy but keep trying to get him munching, even just giving 5mls of recovery food to kick off his appetite a bit then put grass/hay in front of him to encourage him etc. Jess didn’t eat properly for a good week after her op, (Pedro was all over the place but he had to have his second op and was much harder work with him!) but I encouraged her to eat a bit by putting food pretty close so she wouldn’t have to get out of bed much if she fancied a nibble while she was so sleepy.
There can be a little blood from the wound if they move on it and pull a stitch a bit etc so just keep an eye :)
Sounds like he’s doing really well, make sure you get lots of rest in between caring for him too! :hug:x

Yes I do find he'll have a bit of grass after Emeraid so it must make him realise he's hungry. With him being sleepy still I think he forgets he's hungry until I give him something.
Elvis wheeking for veg earlier woke him up and he joined Elvis in waiting by the bars and was taking veg off into boxes then coming back for more which is much more like him. Yesterday he would take it if I held it in front of him but wouldn't come out of his cosy for it so that's definitely an improvement :)

Aw brave little guy, hope his breathing is better soon. When Ted had the last GA dental back in March last year he was quite hooty for a day, it was the anaesthetic, it soon wore off. Can he manage a few porridge oats?

Good to know it's not just Eddie that's been hooty after an op :) I hadn't thought to give him oats I'll offer him some tomorrow.
Just holding you and Eddie in my thoughts
Thank you 😊

Eddie is brighter again today! He was up and waiting to come out of the cage with Elvis today which he wasn't doing before and he just generally seems more active :yahoo: Yesterday evening and this morning he attempted some hay too! Both of them are currently out on the grass and both munching away :D
