COVID-19 Coronavirus

P&O have cancelled our holiday in June, saved me doing it,was taking my 14 year grand daughter as a thankyou for being my carer. we sat at the PC looking up about the flu pandemic of 1918, worth looking up folks, reading it you would think your reading about Corona, with the government inability to handle It .
Sorry about your holiday.
Hope you can rearrange something when this is all over

Paracetemol and ibuprofen to switch between so your symptoms can be at least knocked back a little bit, try and take these with food, they absorb much quicker and won't cause you gut issues that way.
There is some concern coming out of a France that ibuprofen can make symptoms worse, so perhaps exercise caution there.

@Tigermoth Thank you for that, I'd not seen those reports. Do you have a link at all? I'd like to read up and see if it's bringing up a similar issue to the use of Naproxen in pneumonia treatment. I know that if you have existing bronchial conditions like asthma, it can indeed cause issues, but for otherwise healthy people, I had found it listed as a suitable alternative. Asthmatics usually have a pretty good handle on their own health though, so I would assume they'd have a list of drugs they're unable to use regularly at least.

This is a bit of a specialist subject of mine because my mother has severe COPD from repeated cancer treatments and frequently has bronchitis and lung based issues, so please excuse me rambling about this. I've spent the last 6 years neck deep in it and it's frankly terrifying to me to have such reluctant specialist parts of my knowledge become every day news articles.

Could a mod please alter my original post to remove the ibuprofen suggestion? I can't seem to edit it and I hate leaving bad information up! Thank you!

Anti-inflammatories may aggravate Covid-19, France advises
I don’t have a good medical link, it’s all press based. I only heard of it from another forum friend based in France which seems to be where the concerns originated, so I looked it up. Finding a source is difficult, i don’t want to be part of spreading misinformation but brufen can do funny things to asthmatics and chickenpox and the like so I’m inclined to bear it in mind.

@Tigermoth thank you for that, I'll go and have a read! Thanks for telling me about it in the first place too, my apologies for the lack of consideration on the earlier post.

I think it’s generally decent advice, it’s not like the muppets suggesting a glass of water every 15 minutes will stop you getting it...

They are doing, on the advice of the Chief Medical Officer and other experts. Who else do you want them to listen to?

Italy has the oldest population in Europe and a very different culture.

I actually think the government have done a good job in being frank with the public and I also think children are better off in school for the moment, contained & washing their hands than at home or playing out as lots will do. Nurses and doctors are parents too, as are childcare providers and hospitals still need to function for current patients.

We have had lots of reassurances from the school & trips are still going ahead. It is prudent to hold off mass isolation until it is absolutely needed around the predicted peak which may change as we know more.

I will take guidance from the government and WHO and do whats best for my family & elderly neighbours in the meantime. I also have no time for conspiracy theories as it achieves nothing apart from spreading fear and anxiety.

Soap and hot water is more effective than an antibac handwash & the obsession with toilet rolls?! ...crazy 🤷‍♀️
I wonder who all the other governments are listening to then.

Just saying.

With you on the toilet rolls though 😂

Thanks @Tigermouth and @Fweeper for the ibuophen info. I got some today as there was no paracetamol around, will move it to my drawer so OH doesn't take any, he has COPD. We've never been told he shouldn't take it.

I’ve pretty much had all my pet sitting bookings, for the next 6 weeks, cancelled today! This is incredibly worrying as this is my only income! 😢
Is there anything else you can take on temporarily, even start doing takeaway deliveries? Duno how thatd work round teas tho. Sorry to hear this

I’m going to use the time to get as much coursework done as possible and then review the situation at the end of April! I can live on pasta and baked beans....oh no I can’t, there isn’t any in the shops!

I've looked everywhere tonight for bog roll pasta and rice. Nothing left, not even at petrol stations. People will end up robbing homes at this rate

a friend works for a huge supermarket at a high level, he says warehouses have tons of food in, supermarkets will be re-stocked.
For some reason, oats are not being panic buyed. Weird I think. I'm living on that, whey protein powder and barroca when poo poo hits the fan. If it does

Some of the things being cleared of the shelves in my local tescos are: panty liners, porridge oats, face wipes, rice, biscuits, tinned soup, to name but afew. Every time I go in its these same items. As well as bog roll and anything remotely antibacterial

Waiting to see what actually arrives in my grocery shop this week. So far it's showing as washing up liquid, bleach (which is only in there due to no other cleaning products available), chicken thighs, whole chicken, crisps, lots of the veg, water wipes (we have no wipes if baby arrives apart from 10 reusables) and deodorant as now being put of stock. Think I would have rather gone to the supermarket myself

Oh, also order three cases of caster oil, purely to put any TP stockpiles you may have to good use.

It's been tried before in a few famines, not quite sure how people got on with it, but if it's anything like the time I decided to do it when I was younger, it makes a terrible mess, and the staining never truly goes away, as my dad's Ford Escort could attest.
Apparently, humans can eat it and digest it, but it takes time to be able to
